Texas WR Isaiah Neyor expected to enter transfer portal

Isaiah Neyor appears to be headed elsewhere.

Texas could be set to suffer its biggest portal loss for the 2024 cycle. Wide receiver Isaiah Neyor is expected to enter the transfer portal.

Among those who have been reported likely to leave Texas, we had the highest hopes for Neyor in burnt orange. The talented and proven receiver caught 44 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021 before transferring from Wyoming to Texas.

Injuries derailed what was primed to be a national breakout for the talented pass catcher in 2022. Many of the offensive improvements Texas has made this season with Georgia transfer Adonai Mitchell we expected to occur last season with Neyor. Perhaps it just wasn’t meant to happen in Austin.

The ceiling and playmaking ability are still there for the journeyman receiver. We were still open to the possibility that Neyor could be the lead pass catcher in 2024, but talented freshman Johntay Cook looks more likely to take that mantle of current Texas players who could return.

We will monitor where Neyor goes should he transfer from Texas.

Texas a projected landing spot for UTSA edge Trey Moore

Texas is a projected landing spot for one of the nation’s best edge rushers.

On Tuesday, Trey Moore announced he entered the transfer portal. The talented defensive end/linebacker for the UTSA Roadrunners had an outstanding 2023 season, showcasing his elite stats and defensive accolades.

He recorded 45 tackles, 22 quarterback hurries, 17.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and even managed to grab an interception. Moore’s impressive performance has made him a highly sought-after player in the portal, and many teams are expected to show interest in him.

Moore was also named the 2023 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. With the Texas Longhorns entering the SEC in 2024, the defense could use an experienced edge rusher to pair with incoming freshman Collin Simmons.

UTSA Rivals publisher Javi Cardenas recently predicted Moore will come to the Forty Acres.

Texas players, former high school teammates pitch Bear Alexander to Austin

Georgia transfer DT Bear Alexander could potentially reunite with three high school teammates at Texas.

Transfer portal defensive tackle Bear Alexander has something in common with Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, linebacker Anthony Hill and cornerback Austin Jordan. All four played high school football for the Denton Ryan Raiders. And while Alexander may have his eyes on USC, the Longhorns could have a strong pitch to come back home to Texas.

Sanders and Hill are considered two of the more transformative players on the Texas roster. Both took to social media on Saturday to let the public know they are aware that Alexander is on the move.

Hill, who co-starred with Bear along the Ryan defense, tweeted to the big time player to “come home.” It’s unclear how fond Alexander is of the football program in Austin, but he’s certainly familiar with the impact Hill and Sanders bring to a football team.

Texas will aim to play on the appeal of reuniting with the three high school teammates and Georgia transfer receiver AD Mitchell.

Texas LB’s Derrick Brown, Trevell Johnson enter transfer portal

Round two of the transfer portal is starting early for two Texas linebackers.

Round two of the transfer portal is starting early for two Texas linebackers. Derrick Brown and Trevell Johnson joined wide receiver Brenen Thompson as the most recent Longhorns looking for a change of scenery.

To be clear, all three individuals should contribute at their next stop. Each player will presumably play a pivotal role elsewhere. Albeit, perhaps the fit at Texas wasn’t there.

As for how it affects Texas, the team is now built to absorb roster losses despite the upside each player adds. Even so, the thin linebacker room is reason to anticipate head coach Steve Sarkisian could look to add experienced depth at the position.

The timing of the three transfer portal announcements makes one wonder if Sarkisian has began to tell players where they stand within the depth chart. Clearly, the Texas wide receiver room is reason for Thompson to explore options elsewhere. Nevertheless, one would figure Brown and Johnson could have an opportunity to push for playing time.

There could be more portal entries over the next week. We will continue to monitor how Texas players navigate the end of spring football.

Texas to settle depth chart, portal entries following spring game

We should know what team Texas is fielding by the end of spring football sessions.

The end of spring football approaches as we inch closer to the Orange and White Game on April 15. That should relatively coincide with the end of portal season barring a handful of disgruntled athletes who spontaneously opt to leave closer to the season.

Steve Sarkisian shared his process for solidifying the roster and allowing players who aren’t viewed as impact players to know where they stand.

I meet with every player at the end of spring and I like to tell them where they’re at. If we were playing next Saturday, this is where you would be on the depth chart. That doesn’t mean that’s the end all be all. Here’s what you need to do to work on to either keep that spot or what you need to do to earn that spot that’s in front of you.

Inevitably, players who don’t make the depth chart will likely be those who consider other schools. If and when that happens, we’ll have a fuller understanding of what team Texas fields for the 2023 season. From there we’ll be able to more accurately predict how the Longhorns match up with their opponents.

Portal Wish List: Players Texas could target this offseason

Texas might find the championship piece that puts it over the top through the portal.

The transfer portal is opening. Like pandora’s box, chaos will undoubtedly ensue. Fortunately for Texas, Steve Sarkisian is comfortable with change and should be up to another great portal haul.

Last offseason, Sarkisian had as good of a portal haul as anyone could have expected.

The Longhorns brought in two Day 1 starters from Ohio State, Quinn Ewers and Ryan Watts. In addition, they reeled in Isaiah Neyor, Agiye Hall, Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey and Jahleel Billingsley. In Neyor and Hall, they could have two more starters in 2023.

This year, there aren’t many vacancies for the team to fill through the portal. There is as much depth on the Forty Acres as there has been in awhile.

Despite an already loaded portal class of running backs, Texas might not even give outside options a glance. Jonathon Brooks and Keilan Robinson return as the headliners, while Cedric Baxter, Jaydon Blue and Tre Wisner will push for carries.

Here’s a look at who Texas may target in the transfer portal.

Texas Football: Transfer portal departures tracker

Here is a tracker of notable Longhorns who have entered the portal.

The NCAA transfer portal is a mainstay in the world of college football in 2022. Players having the freedom to transfer without punishment creates a new landscape in the sport.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff will undoubtedly work to use the portal to their advantage. Last season Texas added key contributors such as quarterback Quinn Ewers, defensive back Ryan Watts and linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey.

Like most programs across the country, Texas is expected to see a group of players seek new opportunities. It should be a very active transfer portal season following year two of the Steve Sarkisian era. An important thing to remember is a player entering the portal does not guarantee said player is leaving the program.

The transfer portal did not officially open until Dec. 5 but players began stating their intentions beforehand.

Here is an ongoing tracker of notable Longhorn players who have entered the transfer portal thus far:

Report: Wide receiver Kennedy Lewis enters transfer portal

According to multiple reports, wide receiver Kennedy Lewis is no longer with the Longhorns. He has also entered the transfer portal.

Texas’ wide receiver room has gone under some changes since Steve Sarkisian took over. Four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy brought speed after flipping from Michigan. The Longhorns will be looking for the same going forward in recruiting and through the transfer portal.

Just as the portal gives, it also takes away. Multiple players have already transferred out of Austin, moving onto other Power Five programs. USC has taken a trio of Longhorns in Keaontay Ingram, Xavion Alford, and Malcolm Epps.

On Tuesday, the transfer portal took away from Texas again.

According to 247Sports, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Kennedy Lewis is no longer with the team. He is no longer listed on the official team roster either.

Shortly after, Insider Texas confirmed Lewis had entered the transfer portal. He is the first wide receiver the Longhorns will lose after Sarkisian’s first year of spring practice.

In two seasons with Texas, Lewis only appeared in two games. He made his singular career catch against Rice in 2019 for 37 yards.

Per the 247Sports composite, Lewis was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. He ranked as the No. 650 player and the No. 83 wide receiver in the country. The Melissa, Texas native was the No. 79 in-state player of the 2019 class.
