Titans release tackle Leroy Watson, add to practice squad

The Tennessee Titans made a flurry of roster moves Tuesday, releasing former starter Leroy Watson and signing three players to practice squad.

For a team that was on an off day, the Tennessee Titans were busy. At least their coaching staff and front office were. Hours after reports surfaced that Tennessee was signing kicker Brayden Narveson to the practice squad with kicker Nick Folk battling some type of injury, the team made a flurry of roster moves.

The most surprising move came when the Titans announced they were releasing former starting right tackle Leroy Watson. Watson has been sidelined with a back injury in recent weeks, but returned to practice last week and there was speculation that he could get a helmet in Week 14.

Watson wasn’t a savior at right tackle when given his opportunity. He was inconsistent at best, but he was at least an option and competition for Nicholas Petit-Frere, who has struggled all season.

The Titans also added two players to their practice squad: linebacker Curtis Bolton and offensive tackle Kellen Diesch.

Bolton was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Green Bay Packers after the 2019 NFL draft after a solid career at Oklahoma. In all, he has seen action in 29 games with three different teams, making 16 combined tackles (11 solo).

Diesch was an interesting offensive tackle prospect coming out of Arizona State in the 2022 NFL draft. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins, but did not make the team out of training camp. Since his release, he has been a practice squad player for the Chicago Bears (2022) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2023). He signed with Cleveland earlier in 2024, but was waived with a failed physical designation.

Bolton and Diesch will join their new teammates on Wednesday when the Titans return to the practice field.

Patriots officially announce four roster moves on Friday

It was a busy day for the Patriots

It was a busy Friday for the New England Patriots, who announced several roster moves following training camp practice.

The team revealed the signing of offensive tackle Kellen Diesch and former UFL standout safety A.J. Thomas. In corresponding moves, they also announced the releases of running back Deshaun Fenwick and offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr.

Diesch has typically served as a practice squad player for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.

Thomas appeared in six games for the Chicago Bears and mustered only four total tackles. However, he had a stellar run with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL in 2024, when he led the league with three interceptions.

He finished his UFL run with 23 total tackles and an All-UFL nod.

The Patriots are clearly looking to boost the depth and competition in a safety group that features Jabrill Peppers, Kyle Dugger and Marte Mapu at the top of the depth chart. Thomas is an intriguing addition who could push veteran Jaylinn Hawkins for reps.

Patriots expected to sign former Pac-12 standout offensive tackle

The Patriots are boosting their offensive tackle depth

The New England Patriots are boosting their offensive tackle depth.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the team is expected to bring in former Arizona State standout offensive lineman Kellen Diesch and sign him to the roster.

The timing of this signing is of note considering veteran Tyrone Wheatley Jr. didn’t practice on Thursday.

Diesch is a former Second-team All-Pac-12 lineman who stands at 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds. He went undrafted out of college and signed with the Miami Dolphins. However, his stay in South Beach was short-lived as he was waived four months later. He has since bounced around to the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cleveland Browns claimed him off waivers in May, but he was released two days later due to a failed physical.

He’ll have another opportunity to prove himself with a Patriots football team with more questions than answers right now at the offensive tackle position.

Giants hosting Tre Herndon, others for tryouts

The New York Giants are hosting multiple players for tryouts including veteran cornerback Tre Herndon III.

With news of the recent retirement of starting tight end Darren Waller, the New York Giants are trying out several veterans at minicamp this week along with several other veterans at other positions.

Head coach Brian Daboll said the team is always trying to improve the roster and have the luxury of some additional cap space with Waller off the roster.

The Giants already have a full tight end room but there is always room for more. Noah Togiai, who was an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State back in 2017, has played in eight NFL games. Former Mississippi State Bulldog Geor’quarius Spivey is also getting a tryout.

Tre Herndon III, a cornerback with 83 games of experience (34 starts) for the Jacksonville Jaguars, will also get a tryout as will 6-foot-7 offensive tackle Kellen Diesch.

In addition to those tryouts, UFL running back Jacob Saylors is in East Rutherford for a visit.

Browns waive OT Kellen Diesch with failed physical days after claiming him

Cleveland waived Diesch with a failed physical designation

Just a couple of days after claiming offensive tackle Kellen Diesch off of waivers, the Cleveland Browns waived him with a failed physical designation. Diesch checked all the boxes the Browns look for in a developmental player at the position as a great athlete with rare physical gifts.

The Browns are committed to not letting what happened last year happen again as they continue to add offensive linemen for better depth. After losing their top three offensive tackles last year and starting guys off the street I would expect they add someone else to take Diesch’s position.

The Browns now have their schedule for the 2024 regular season, with OTA’s getting closer and camp just a couple of months away.

Cleveland has a chance to have a truly great season as they have one of the best rosters in the NFL, and as long as the quarterback play isn’t awful, they should make the postseason again in 2024.

Browns claim OT Kellen Diesch, sign WR Jalen Camp to 90-man roster

The Browns have added two new faces to their 90-man roster.

The Cleveland Browns have added two new players to their 90-man roster after claiming offensive tackle Kellen Diesch off of waivers and signing wide receiver Jalen Camp.

Diesch, a former undrafted free agent out of Arizona State in 2021, is known for his highly tantalizing athletic profile. He has yet to hang onto a roster, however. Hanging on their practice squad for a year after bouncing from the Miami Dolphins to the Chicago Bears, Diesch was just waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Camp was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round during the 2021 NFL draft, but did not make the final 53-man roster. He was then picked up by the Houston Texans. He was in Houston for two seasons.

As a corresponding move, the Browns have waived kicker Lucas Havrisik from their roster to make room for Camp. This means the Browns will carry just Dustin Hopkins and former fourth rounder Cade York into the offseason at the kicker position.

Steelers, Bills have 8 former Dolphins wild-card matchup

Former Dolphins who will play in Steelers-Bills wild-card game.

The Miami Dolphins have been eliminated from the postseason following their 27-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.

So, while Dolphins fans prepare for the offseason, there are a number of former Dolphins who are still playing for a Super Bowl championship that they can support.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills are set to battle in a wild-card matchup of their own, and there are eight former Dolphins on their rosters and practice squads.

Here’s a look at which players who once donned the aqua and orange will play in this one:

Dolphins release UDFA OT Kellen Diesch

Miami continues to trim offensive line depth.

As the Miami Dolphins continue to make their way through roster cuts before the deadline, it’s been reported that they’ve moved on from another offensive lineman.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins are releasing offensive tackle Kellen Diesch. Diesch was signed as an undrafted free agent following this year’s draft out of Arizona State.

With Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead cemented in their roles at the tackle spots, there was a chance that the rookie could make the third spot. Unfortunately, it appears that he’s been beaten out by some of the other options.

There would be a chance that he returns for a practice squad job.

Be sure to keep up with all of Miami’s roster moves via the cutdown tracker.

2022 Dolphins positional preview: The offensive line is improved, but there are still questions

There are still two questionable spots.

The 2021 edition of the Miami Dolphins got one of the worst offensive line performances among all of the teams in the NFL.

Between inexperienced coaches and poor effort, the line wasn’t able to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or get any push for the team’s running game. As a result, the offense struggled to string drives together, keeping them from a postseason birth for the fifth straight season.

With the Dolphins ready to hit the field for training camp near the end of the month, it’s as good of a time as any to assess the roster. We’ve touched on quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, so, today, we’re focusing on the big men up front.
