Terron Armstead says Dolphins ‘have enough to beat anybody’

There have been a lot of comings and goings in the AFC East this offseason, but Terron Armstead isn’t fazed.

The Miami Dolphins are keeping busy this offseason. They’ve cut ties with a few players, allowed others to walk in free agency, and filled the holes with a bunch of veteran additions. Up next, the Dolphins will welcome a new rookie class in the 2024 NFL draft.

Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead isn’t too concerned about any of the comings and goings, though. He also doesn’t care much about what’s happening elsewhere in the AFC East.

“We don’t really look at all the other moving pieces within the division, or around the league, because we feel like we have enough,” Armstead said Monday on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access. “We’re talented enough, we’re skilled enough, we’re tough enough, we just have to do. It’s now time to show improvements, to show we can win those big games and live those big moments.

“So it doesn’t matter who’s traded, we don’t look at that, we have enough to beat anybody at full strength, and that’s really our mindset, it’s our mentality. We have that confidence, but we just have to go out and do it.”

The Dolphins climbed to 11-4 during the 2023 season before mounting injuries proved too much to overcome. By the time the playoffs rolled around, Miami was without Bradley Chubb, Xavien Howard, Jerome Baker, Jaelan Phillips, Andrew Van Winkel, and Connor Williams.

While staying healthy would make a massive difference for the team in 2024, it also doesn’t hurt that the reigning AFC East champs have torn up their roster. So far in 2024, the Bills have parted with Stefon Diggs, Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, Mitch Morse, Siran Neal, Gabe Davis, and Dane Jackson.

Dolphins working on adjusting LT Terron Armstead’s contract

Miami’s expected to have their LT back in 2024 on a reworked deal.

The Miami Dolphins have a lot of positions up in the air heading into the start of free agency, but one spot they should have solidified is left tackle.

As reported a few weeks back, Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead is expected to play in 2024 after mulling over the idea of retirement. On top of that, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the team and Armstead are working on an adjusted contract.

It’s unclear at this moment whether or not it’s a restructuring or a new deal that may change the term remaining and the compensation. Either way, it would likely save Miami some salary cap space.

At the moment, Armstead has a $20.85 million cap hit for the 2024 season and cap hits of $20.66 million in 2025 and $20.69 million in 2026, according to Over the Cap.

If it’s a contract restructuring, Miami could save $8.46 million in 2024.

UPDATE: The deal is agreed to.

Looking back at how Dolphins’ current stars performed at the NFL combine

A look back at how current Dolphins did during the combine.

The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine is taking place this week with players from colleges around the country displaying their strengths and weaknesses on the field and in the meeting rooms for teams to see.

In less than two months, all 32 teams, including the Miami Dolphins, will add young talent to their rosters in this year’s draft with many decision-makers taking a lot of information from the combine.

Before the event finishes, let’s look at how some of Miami’s current stars performed when they took part in the past.

Draft prospect draws comparison to current Dolphins OL

NFL draft prospect draws comparison to Dolphins offensive lineman.

The 2024 NFL draft is still months away, but teams and experts are furiously going through every crumb of information they can before over 250 players hear their names called during the annual selection process in April.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Matt Miller released his player comparisons for this year’s group of draft prospects that he believes are worthy of first-round grades.

While 16 players received first-round grades, one stood out because he was compared to a current Miami Dolphins offensive tackle.

Penn State’s Olumuyiwa Fashanu is expected to be one of the first offensive linemen selected in a draft that’s rich at the position following a collegiate career that included a consensus All-American final season.

Miller compares Fashanu to Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead, who was a third-round pick of the New Orleans Saints back in 2013 out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Here’s what Miller had to say about Fashanu:

“A long-armed, easy-moving left tackle, Fashanu is a massive man at 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds. The 20-year-old started 20 games over the past two seasons, allowing one sack in that time while being flagged only four times. He’s powerful and agile, and he is still getting better with more reps. Fashanu has the tools to become a top-five NFL left tackle.”

Armstead has been a Second-team All-Pro once and a Pro Bowler five times in his career, which is incredible considering the jump he had to make from a SWAC school to the NFL.

Fashanu will almost certainly be gone by the time the Dolphins are on the clock, but if some team is getting the type of player that Armstead has been in his career when healthy, they should be ecstatic about that.

Report: Dolphins LT Terron Armstead expected to play in 2024

Miami’s expected to have their LT for 2024.

As the Miami Dolphins prepare for the 2024 season, they’ll need to plan for what positions they’ll need to target through both free agency and the NFL draft in the coming months.

With questions about left tackle Terron Armstead’s future still looming, left tackle might’ve been a big need for Miami. However, the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson is reporting that Armstead is expected to play in 2024.

Armstead signed a massive five-year, $75 million contract with the Dolphins prior to the 2022 season, but injuries have followed him from his time with the New Orleans Saints. In two years in aqua and orange, Armstead has missed 11 games and has played hurt in many more.

When he’s healthy, Armstead is one of the league’s best tackles, but that’s something that hasn’t been seen much in South Florida.

The 32-year-old is set to have his $13.3 million salary, which is already partially guaranteed ($5 million) become fully guaranteed next month.

If the Dolphins want to get the best out of their offense in 2024, they need to find a way to keep Armstead on the field.

Dolphins share mic’d up moments from the Pro Bowl Games.

Six members of the Miami Dolphins roster got to spend last week parading around Florida, as they participated in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

Tua Tagovailoa, Raheem Mostert, Alec Ingold, Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead and Jalen Ramsey all had the chance to represent the aqua and orange in a number of events, including the flag football game last Sunday.

Miami’s content team recently released some behind-the-scenes footage from the activities, which featured Mostert wearing the mic.

The Dolphins may not have been the best performers throughout the Pro Bowl Games, but they did appear to have a great. They’re hoping that they’ll be busy preparing for the Super Bowl next year.

Dolphins LT Terron Armstead taking time before deciding on future

The LT’s future is still undecided. Here’s what he had to say during the Pro Bowl weekend.

An NFL season can be a grueling process for a player to compete in, as they’re constantly putting their body to the test from minicamp in the summer through the postseason in the winter.

For Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead, the last few seasons have put a lot of strain on him. He’s appeared in just 23 games since signing a five-year, $75 million deal to join the team in 2022 due to numerous injuries to his back, knees, ankle and quad over the last two seasons.

It’s no surprise that, at 32 years old, the five-time Pro Bowler hasn’t decided on his future just weeks after the Kansas City Chiefs eliminated his team from the postseason in the wild-card round.

“Just taking time away from the game,” Armstead told NFL.com. “It was a long season, up-and-down season for myself, physically. Getting away coming out of the playoff loss to the Chiefs, I haven’t even started that process. I’ve just been resting, recovering and enjoying family.”

This past weekend, Armstead took the field with five of his teammates at the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, and although linemen aren’t needed for the flag football game, he did participate in a couple of events alongside his peers.

There, he got to reflect on the toll this season took on him.

“This season definitely was a challenge physically, probably this one more than the others this one stuck out,” Armstead said. “I’m feeling well, though, healing up. I’ve just been resting, recovering; I haven’t been doing much since the playoffs.”

Miami needs him on the field in 2024 and beyond, as Austin Jackson struggled when he was at left tackle earlier in his career and backup Kendall Lamm, who filled in for Armstead throughout the season, is set to hit the market.

If Armstead were to retire, tackle would immediately vault up to the top priority for the Dolphins this offseason. Hopefully, some time away from the game to recover will be exactly what he needs.

Grading the Dolphins offensive linemen after their 2023 season

A look at Miami’s offensive linemen, and the year they had in 2023.

The Miami Dolphins finished their 2023 campaign with an 11-6 record and made the postseason for the second time in as many years under head coach Mike McDaniel. Unfortunately, it came to an end with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round.

While other teams are in the midst of their playoff run, it’s time to do some reflecting on the team in South Florida.
