Dolphins LT Terron Armstead leaves with injury vs. Jets

Miami’s playing their third-string LT.

The Miami Dolphins have been dealing with injuries all season, especially on the offensive line.

They entered Week 12 without left guard Isaiah Wynn (injured reserve) and with right guard Robert Hunt active but not playing due to injury.

Midway through the third quarter, Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead left the game and went off to the blue medical tent. With backup Kendall Lamm also dealing with an injury, third-string offensive tackle Kion Smith entered the game in his place.

The team announced that Armstead is dealing with a quad injury, and he’s questionable to return to action.

Dolphins signed 7 players to reserve/future contracts

Here’s who’s sticking around from the practice squad.

With the Miami Dolphins 2022 season officially coming to a close on Sunday, the restrictions that force teams to keep their active rosters at 53 players are lifted, allowing teams to sign up to 90 players.

Once a team is eliminated they can sign a number of players to reserve/future contracts which adds them to the active roster through the spring and summer.

On Monday, the Dolphins signed these seven players from their practice squad to such deals:

Dolphins make two roster moves before game vs. Browns

Miami adds two to the active roster for Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins’ roster has been fluid through the first half of the 2022 season due to injuries at key positions and impact players.

On Saturday, that trend continued, as Miami signed defensive back Verone McKinley III to their active roster from their practice squad. The team also elevated offensive tackle Kion Smith for the second time in as many weeks.

McKinley has already been elevated twice this season, so the only way he could play is through an active roster spot. He’ll continue to get opportunities at safety along with Eric Rowe, Clayton Fejedelem and Elijah Campbell.

He will be able to help ease the loss of Brandon Jones, who went down with a torn ACL early in the season.

Smith didn’t get any reps last week, as Terron Armstead and Brandon Shell were healthy and on the field for every offensive snap. His elevation is likely a precaution.

Dolphins elevate OT Kion Smith for game vs. Bears

They’ll need the extra depth with Terron Armstead dealing with toe and Achilles injuries.

The Miami Dolphins are set to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.

With left tackle Terron Armstead dealing with injuries to his ankle and Achilles, the Dolphins have elevated tackle Kion Smith to the active roster from the practice squad.

Smith spent all of the 2021 season on Miami’s practice squad after spending some time with the Atlanta Falcons, who signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Miami didn’t use their second elevation this week. Safety Verone McKinley III has been elevated twice already, so he would have to be signed to the active roster if the Dolphins wanted to use him.

Report: Dolphins release OT Kion Smith

The offensive line continues to be trimmed.

The Miami Dolphins’ roster cuts are ongoing, as all 32 NFL teams must get down to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline at 4 p.m. ET.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have released offensive tackle Kion Smith. Smith spent all of 2021 on Miami’s practice squad and was given an opportunity to fight for a tackle spot behind Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead.

Unfortunately, his play didn’t warrant the Dolphins keeping him around through the final roster cuts. With so many depth options, it’s unknown whether or not he’ll be back with the practice squad.

Be sure to keep up with all of Miami’s roster moves via the cutdown tracker.

2022 Dolphins positional preview: The offensive line is improved, but there are still questions

There are still two questionable spots.

The 2021 edition of the Miami Dolphins got one of the worst offensive line performances among all of the teams in the NFL.

Between inexperienced coaches and poor effort, the line wasn’t able to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or get any push for the team’s running game. As a result, the offense struggled to string drives together, keeping them from a postseason birth for the fifth straight season.

With the Dolphins ready to hit the field for training camp near the end of the month, it’s as good of a time as any to assess the roster. We’ve touched on quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, so, today, we’re focusing on the big men up front.
