Titans sign Terry Godwin, waive Juwan Green

The Titans swapped receivers on their offseason roster on Thursday.

Tennessee Titans fans have been waiting for the team to make a move at the wide receiver position this offseason, and while the team did make one on Thursday, it wasn’t the splash move fans are hoping for.

The team announced it has swapped out wide receivers, signing Terry Godwin and waiving wideout Juwan Green, who was signed earlier this offseason after a successful workout.

A former seventh-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2019, Godwin hasn’t played in a game since the 2020 season, when he appeared in three for the Jacksonville Jaguars and caught three passes for 32 yards.

Godwin also returned two kicks that year and played 12 snaps in total on special teams.

Just like Green, Godwin is a major longshot to make the initial 53-man roster out of training camp, even with Tennessee’s uncertain situation at the position. The best he can hope for is a spot on the practice squad.

Titans announce Juwan Green signing among two roster moves

The Titans made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans made their reported signing of wide receiver Juwan Green official on Wednesday. In order to make room for Green, the Titans waived tight end Ryan Izzo.

A former undrafted free agent signing of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, Green was brought in for a workout recently that apparently went well. However, his best bet at sticking in Nashville is through the practice squad.

The Albany product spent time on the practice squads of both Atlanta and the Detroit Lions in 2021. More recently, he went through a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles during their 2022 rookie minicamp.

Green, who has never played a regular season snap, played his college ball at Albany, where he finished with 106 receptions for 1,815 yards and 21 touchdowns in 23 games over two seasons.

A former seventh-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2018, Izzo was signed by the Titans in January off the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.

Report: Titans sign WR Juwan Green after workout

The Titans have reportedly added another WR to their offseason roster.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly adding another wide receiver to their training camp roster after a workout on Wednesday.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Titans have signed wide receiver Juwan Green. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A former undrafted free agent signing of the Atlanta Falcons following the 2020 NFL draft, Green played his college ball at the University of Albany, where he tallied 106 receptions for 1,815 yards and 21 touchdowns in 23 games over two seasons.

Green spent parts of 2021 on the practice squads of the Falcons and Detroit Lions, but has yet to take a snap in a regular season game. Most recently, he had a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles in rookie minicamp.

Green will join a group of receivers in Tennessee that has several question marks. Despite that, he’ll have an uphill climb in making the roster out of training camp.

Adding as many options at the wide receiver position is important, but the Titans really need to explore adding another veteran to the mix, as the aforementioned group lacks experience overall.

Perhaps we’ll see Tennessee make a move in that area in the coming days, as Julio Jones’ money comes off the books on Thursday, giving the team salary cap relief in the form of $9.5 million.

Eagles sign WR Keric Wheatfall

Philadelphia Eagles sign former Fresno State wide receiver Keric Wheatfall after his tryout during the teams rookie minicamp

The Philadelphia Eagles opened up their rookie minicamp with five NFL draft picks and 12 undrafted free agents.

Team GM Howie Roseman is always looking for a hidden gem or two and with Philadelphia surrendering six picks during the draft weekend via trade, the organization invited 19 players to the camp as well for a tryout.

After that evaluation period, the Eagles have agreed to a deal with wide receiver Keric Wheatfall, a rookie out of Fresno State who participated in the Rookie Minicamp on a tryout basis.

Wheatfall started his college career at Blinn College before transferring to Fresno State. At Blinn, Wheatfall had 798 yards and six touchdowns on 47 receptions in 2018, including four 100-yard receiving games.

In 2021 with the Bulldogs, Wheatfall played in all 13 games, starting in eight games, as he finished as the team’s third-leading receiver with 38 receptions for 616 yards and four touchdowns.

Broncos trying out 7 players at voluntary minicamp

Among the players trying out for the Broncos this week: CB Bless Austin, who has started 17 games in three seasons.

The Denver Broncos kicked off their voluntary minicamp on Monday with new jersey numbers — and some new faces.

The Broncos invited seven players to camp this week on a tryout basis, according to Ryan O’Halloran of The Denver Post. Here’s a quick glance at the players:

  • WR Juwan Green (6-0, 187 pounds) went undrafted out of Albany in 2020 and he’s spent time with two teams since then but is yet to appear in a regular season game.
  • WR Trey Quinn (6-0, 200 pounds) entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of SMU in 2018. Spending time with three teams, he’s caught 35 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns in the NFL.
  • TE Caleb Wilson (6-4, 240 pounds) is a former seventh-round pick out of UCLA who’s been with four different teams, but he’s yet to catch a pass in a regular season game.
  • RB Artavis Pierce (5-11, 208 pounds) went undrafted out of Oregon State in 2020 before stints with two different teams. He’s rushed for 34 yards and one touchdown in the NFL.

Lions sign LB Curtis Bolton, TE Jared Pinkney in flurry of roster moves

Curtis Bolton, Jared Pinkney and Jashon Cornell are now all on the 53-man roster after a plethora of moves on Tuesday

It was a very busy day on the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday around the league. The Detroit Lions contributed their fair share of roster moves to the log.

To sum it up briefly, the Lions:

Signed LB Curtis Bolton and TE Jared Pinkney to the active 53-man roster

Activated DE Jashon Cornell from the reserve/non-football injury list

Signed WR Juwan Green and TE Ross Travis to the practice squad

Placed LB Josh Woods on injured reserve

Placed TE Brock Wright on the reserve/COVID-19 list

Released CB Chris Williamson from the practice squad

Bolton comes up from the Lions’ own practice squad. He’s played over 30 snaps on special teams as a practice squad elevation the last two weeks. The inside backer will take the place of Woods, who started in Week 14 before getting hurt in the Week 15 matchup against Arizona. His season is over due to his neck injury.

Pinkney was signed off the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad to the active 53-man roster. He did spend three weeks in September on the Lions practice squad before emigrating to the Rams.

With Wright going on the reserve/COVID-19 list and the earlier move sending Shane Zylstra to the injured reserve, Pinkney is the only tight end on the active roster and projects to start against the Seahawks in Week 16. He is in his second NFL season as an undrafted free agent from Vanderbilt.

Perhaps the most eye-catching move is Cornell. A 2020 7th-round pick from Ohio State, Cornell has been on the field for just four snaps in two seasons. He’s battled injuries, a three-game NFL suspension and recently the lengthy stint on the NFI list. Cornell flashed quite a bit of pass-rush potential in the summer of 2021 when he was healthy.

Falcons sign WR Juwan Green to one-year deal

Depth was an issue for the Atlanta Falcons after suffering so many free-agent losses, but over the past week, the team has added 31 players.

Depth was an issue for the Atlanta Falcons after suffering so many free-agent losses, but over the past week, the team has added 31 players. The 2021 NFL draft brought in nine college prospects, then Atlanta signed 20 undrafted free agents and veteran quarterback AJ McCarron.

On Thursday, the team signed wide receiver Juwan Green to a one-year deal.

Green signed with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Albany in 2020. He spent the year on the team’s practice squad. The Falcons added one wide receiver in the draft, taking Arizona State’s Frank Darby in the sixth round.
