Sooners center Troy Everett to have surgery, miss significant time

Brent Venables confirmed Tuesday night that projected starting center Troy Everett suffered an injury that would require hime to miss significant time.

The Oklahoma Sooners offensive line has been under the microscope this offseason. They’re working to replace all five starters up front, including a projected first-rounder at tackle, [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag].

The Sooners have a good amount of competitive depth to work within their position battles this spring, but that depth took a hit at practice last week. It was reported by several outlets that center [autotag]Troy Everett[/autotag] went down in practice and didn’t return. At the time it was speculated to be a knee injury, though the severity was unknown.

At last night’s media availability, Oklahoma head coach [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] revealed that the injury would require surgery. Venables shared that Everett would have surgery on Wednesday and miss significant time this offseason.

“We got some bad news with Troy Everett. He’s going to have a surgery,” Venables said. “But we’re hoping to see him back by the end of fall camp or so. And if anybody can do it, he will. We’ve got great doctors and a great plan for him.”

According to reports, Everett had been working with the first-team offense, but now the Sooners will turn to their depth to prepare for 2024.

[autotag]Josh Bates[/autotag] is expected to get the first crack at taking over for Everett. He hasn’t played much for the Sooners to this point, but the coaching staff are high on his potential.

“And we got a tougher guy out here than Josh Bates, man,” Venables said. “He’s just a football player.”

Edmond Santa Fe 2024 signee [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag] and Washington transfer [autotag]Geirean Hatchett[/autotag] will also get some opportunities as well.

Oklahoma expects Everett to be back by the end of fall camp, but competition this spring could provide another answer at center for the fall if Everett isn’t ready to go for week one of the season.

Oklahoma Sooners must solve their offensive line problem heading into 2024

The Oklahoma Sooners have their work cut out for them with the offensive line but could any of the young guys be an answer?

There is no doubt the Oklahoma Sooners’ biggest question mark heading into 2024 and their inaugural season in the [autotag]SEC[/autotag] is the offensive line. The Sooners lose five guys who started a bunch of games last season.

[autotag]Walter Rouse[/autotag], [autotag]McKade Mettauer[/autotag], [autotag]Andrew Raym[/autotag], [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag] are gone. Four are off to the [autotag]NFL[/autotag]. The other found a new home in Missouri. That means the Sooners will have their work cut out for them to replace those five.

[autotag]Troy Everett[/autotag] played some at guard but started the bowl game at center, which is probably his more natural position. We’ll see if he wins that job, but it appears he’s the leader to take over for Raym. [autotag]Jacob Sexton[/autotag] started the last few games after Guyton went down with an injury and did pretty well. The Sooners also brought in two transfers [autotag]Spencer Brown[/autotag] and [autotag]Febechi Nwaiwu[/autotag], who look poised to take over at tackle and guard.

But that still leaves spots unfilled. The Sooners are almost certainly going to remain active in the portal, but it’s also possible an incoming freshman gets a look. Most people have assumed that would be [autotag]Eddy Pierre-Louis[/autotag], seeing how highly thought of he is. But a constantly mentioned top performer at the Under Armour All-American events is [autotag]Eugene Brooks[/autotag].

“I don’t know where it will start for me, but I’m just going to go in there and ball out,” Brooks said. “I’m going to work my butt off. I’m going to go in there every day and give it 110% and be the first one in and the last one out.”

It seems with Brooks, [autotag]Daniel Akinkunmi[/autotag], Pierre-Louis, [autotag]Isaiah Autry[/autotag] and [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag], the Sooners have a class of offensive linemen that are physical and bring some nasty back to the offensive line.

That’s something they’ve been missing the last few years, and something we know Bedenbaugh wants out of his linemen. Combine that with what appears to be a strong work ethic from each, and Oklahoma could have a better offensive line class than many thought initially.

State of Oklahoma’s top interior offensive lineman has officially signed with the Sooners

Josh Aisosa is on board as he has signed his National Letter of Intent with the Oklahoma Sooners.

There might not be anyone in the country who is better at their job than [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag]. He’s produced countless offensive linemen that have gone on to have successful NFL careers.

He hopes to have more of that success with his 2024 recruiting class. One of those guys is three-star and the state of Oklahoma’s top interior offensive lineman, [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag]. Aisosa is a 6-foot-4 and 305-pound offensive lineman who will probably play guard at Oklahoma.

He also has a wrestling background, which usually pays dividends for offensive linemen. [autotag]Creed Humphrey[/autotag] is a name that comes to mind for that.

For his role in 2024, typically Bedenbaugh likes his linemen to sit a year while developing their bodies with [autotag]Jerry Schmidt[/autotag]. That’s not to say he won’t play true freshmen, as we’ve seen. Especially with the loss of [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag], a true freshman offensive lineman could earn a role in 2024.

But most likely, Aisosa will have a developmental year before taking on a bigger role in the future.

Oklahoma set to host a number of prospects for season opener vs. Arkansas State

The Oklahoma Sooners are hosting a number of prospects over the next few recruiting cycles for their season opener. Who’s will be in attendance?

Oklahoma’s first game of the season comes against Arkansas State in what could be a blistering day in Norman, Oklahoma. Aside from the pageantry of the first game and the excitement it’ll generate, the Sooners will also be playing host to a number future Sooners and other OU targets.

With the summer dead period officially over, athletes can revisit schools. Oklahoma has already established a nice little list of visitors of both the official and unofficial variety.

We’ve taken the liberty of compiling a list of all the visitors we know now.

Sooners 2024 offensive line target sets official visit date

Sooners land one offensive line target on Saturday and get an official visit set for another the same day.

Saturday was another good day for [autotag]Oklahoma[/autotag] [autotag]recruiting[/autotag]. They landed three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag] and got an official visit date set for another.

This one is for versatile three-star [autotag]Daniel Akinkunmi[/autotag]. Akinkunmi is part of the NFL Academy in London. He is nearly 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds and is projected to be able to play either guard or tackle at the next level.

We know Bill Bedenbaugh loves versatile offensive linemen. That versatility allows him to put the best five out there at all times.

Akinkunmi was offered by the Sooners back on July 10, 2023. He will make his official visit the weekend of the first game of the season from Sept. 1, 2023, to Sept. 3, 2023.

According to On3’s recruiting prediction machine, the Sooners hold a commanding lead. They have a 96.7% of landing the up-and-coming lineman.

247Sports feels the [autotag]Baylor Bears[/autotag], a current conference foe for the Sooners, are the team to beat.

They will be tough to beat. The Sooners have a big edge right now, but there’s still a long way to go, and there hasn’t been a commitment date decided just yet.

Baylor is a team that recruits offensive line and develops them really well. They are known for being physical at the point of the attack and running the ball really well.

Having one of the best offensive line developers for a player that will need some development matters. Bedenbaugh in the Sooners back pocket is sure to help Akinkunmi to Norman.

They hope he will be one of the next links on the offensive line for this class.

Sooners land 3-star 2024 offensive lineman Josh Aisosa

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2024 three-star in-state OL Josh Aisosa out of Edmond Santa Fe.

The [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag] continue to add to the [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag]. This time [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] lands an in-state three-star offensive lineman.

[autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag] from Edmond, Oklahoma, is 6-foot-4, 305 pounds. He will most likely play tackle at Oklahoma but has the versatility to slide inside and play guard.

Aisosa wrestles in high school, which is something that usually proves valuable to an offensive lineman. That background is on full display when you watch him play. He loves to get physical and maul defenders.

That kind of nasty offensive line play is something Bedenbaugh loves to see from his offensive line. His best groups had multiple guys that were like that.

Don’t let the stars fool you. Aisosa is a really talented player who can carve out a solid career. He also could move up into four-star status with a solid senior season.

This was a big get for Oklahoma’s offensive line recruiting. They’ve added Isaiah Autry and Eugene Brooks, and Aisosa gives them a player that could factor into future offensive tackle competitions.

The Sooners are still in the running for four-star OL Grant Brix.  Bedenbaugh’s done a nice job of adding some intriguing pieces to the room thus far.

One thing Bedenbaugh is really good at is developing these offensive linemen. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Aisosa becomes a multi-year starter for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Aisosa is the Sooner’s 19th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class. Oklahoma is No. 15 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

Oklahoma 2024 prospects expected at ‘Party At The Palace’

Oklahoma set to host multiple 2024 recruits and commits for the Party at the Palace.

Oklahoma’s had a busy July to follow up a June full of official visits. July was about constructing their recruiting board for 2025 and 2026 as the 2024 class determines their future.

With so many Oklahoma targets for the 2024 recruiting class stopping by in June for official visits, it significantly decreased the likelihood that July would see nearly as much traffic. And while that may be true, this weekend’s Party at the Palace is still significant and a notable follow-up from Oklahoma’s ‘Sooners under the Sun’ underclassmen event that took place in the middle of the week. That event has already netted a pair of 2025 commitments from defensive tackle Ka’Mori Moore and four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas.

For [autotag]Party at the Palace[/autotag], the 2024 class is back in the spotlight as more than 10 2024 prospects are expected to be in the building over the weekend. Several players are already committed, and the Sooners are hoping to use the event to move the needle with their uncommitted players. We took the liberty of highlighting who has been confirmed to be in Norman for the event.

Oklahoma will have the luxury of having multiple 2024 commits in the building to help with their recruiting efforts. [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] and [autotag]Isaiah Autry[/autotag] can help with the recruitment of three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag] and four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Grant Brix[/autotag]. Defensively, Jaydan Hardy can help with the recruitments of [autotag]Eli Bowen[/autotag], [autotag]C.J. Jackson[/autotag], and [autotag]Michael Boganowski[/autotag] and get in the ear of three-star safety [autotag]Mykel Patterson-McDonald[/autotag], who plans to announce his commitment on July 31st. He’ll be deciding between Oklahoma, Houston, and UNLV.

In-state talent [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag] has had a compelling recruitment. He’s been offered by some of college football’s elite, including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State. With Oklahoma still looking to build a historic class along the defensive line, knocking this visit out of the park would help go a long way.

Party at the Palace could provide the last springboard Oklahoma needs to help solidify its place in the recruitments of several 2024 guys as prospects prepare to lock in for their final high school seasons. This event also marks the last major recruiting event of the offseason for Oklahoma. The calendar gives way to fall camp in preparation for the [autotag]2023 college football season[/autotag].

Sooners pick up Rivals FutureCast for 2024 in-state OL Josh Aisosa

Edmond Santa Fe’s Josh Aisosa predicted to land with the Oklahoma Sooners by Brandon Drumm of OUInsider and Rivals.

As was the case a year ago, as the heat turned up during the summer months, so did the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail.

If there’s been a position that hadn’t seen much momentum, it’s the offensive line group. At this point, only Isaiah Autry is committed to the Sooners’ 2024 recruiting class. However, that could be changing soon. Guard Eugene Brooks plans to announce his pledge on Tuesday.

Another offensive lineman the Sooners are trending positively for is Edmond Santa Fe standout Josh Aisosa.

After predictions favoring Oklahoma came through last week, the in-state prospect was projected to land with this Sooners on Monday by OUInsider’s and Rivals’ Brandon Drumm.

Aisosa is a physical tackle prospect that looks to maul everyone he gets his hands on. He’s an athletic player that is able to move well in space and could play both tackle and guard at the collegiate level. He’s the No. 13 player in the state of Oklahoma, according to 247Sports.

In addition to Oklahoma, Aisosa holds offers from Iowa State, Tulsa, Army, Eastern Michigan, Navy, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Texas State and Central Arkansas.

The offer sheet may not be full of Power Five offers at this point, but Aisosa has the size and skills to be a late riser in the 2024 recruiting cycle. And if Bill Bedenbaugh is issuing an offer, something about the player will translate to the collegiate level.
