Top-100 DB from IMG Academy hoping to visit Florida in spring

Florida is hoping to keep the IMG Academy pipeline going after offering four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell.

Florida is targeting four-star IMG Academy safety [autotag]Jordon Johnson-Rubell[/autotag] in the 2024 cycle, and the blue-chip defensive back is eyeing a spring visit to the Swamp after securing an offer, according to 247Sports.

Defensive analyst Jamar Chaney offered Johnson-Rubell and has been one of two primary contacts for the IMG prospect. The other coach heavily involved in his recruitment is safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney. The duo has been on him since his first visit to UF in the spring and should be getting him back in town over the next few months.

“Florida is right there next to the Tampa area where I am at, so it’s not that far,” Johnson-Rubell said. “I know in March I can visit anytime. So I think I will get there that first week of March. I am going to schedule a visit there either in March or April.”

He named a top 12 in January but has picked up new offers since then, including Florida’s. It has Johnson-Rubell rethinking his most recent and focusing on which programs are recruiting him the hardest. His commitment might get pushed from the summer to fall with all that’s going on right now.

“I don’t really know right now. Florida, Miami, Michigan, all have offered recently, so my eyes are open because I had previously dropped a top 12,” he said. “I just want to find out what schools stand out the most. I don’t have any favorites right now. Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Kansas State, Miami have reached out a lot. I don’t really have any favorites right now.”

If Florida gets Johnson-Rubell on campus in the spring, it will help the Gators’ chances of making the next top schools list he puts out.

The 247Sports composite ranks Johnson-Rubell at No. 86 and No. 7 among safeties overall in the class of 2024. The On3 consensus is even higher on him at No. 72 nationally and No. 6 among those at his position.

The Buckeyes are at it again, with a bunch of offers out #GoBucks

The Buckeyes are at it again: Another flurry of offers has been sent out to high school prospects. The last time [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his staff offered a bunch of prospects, it was mainly along the defensive line on Wednesday.

It seems Day and his staff have been hard at work going over tape of high school football players and making decisions on scholarships. On Friday, another round went out and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] learned it had missed on an Illinois tight end prospect.

Find out below who was offered, along with which prospect the Buckeyes missed on in another exciting recruiting day for the Buckeyes.

Clemson is keeping tabs on this elite defensive back from the Lone Star State.

Brewer High School (Fort Worth, Texas) four-star cornerback Jordon Johnson-Rubell, one of the nation’s top prospects in the class of 2024, is on Clemson’s future recruiting radar. And the Tigers are certainly on Johnson-Rubell’s radar, too, as he has plenty of interest in Dabo Swinney’s program.

“I like the tradition at Clemson,” Johnson-Rubell told The Clemson Insider recently. “What Coach Swinney is doing over there is impressive.”

Johnson-Rubell, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound sophomore, has racked up close to 20 scholarship offers already. His offer list features schools such as Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma and Baylor, to name some.

It’s too early in the recruiting process for him to single out any favorites, with so many schools showing interest and the fact college coaches aren’t allowed to directly contact 2024 prospects yet due to NCAA rules.

“I’m feeling love from all my schools,” he said. “They’re all even in my eyes right now with the love aspect.”

Of course, Clemson typically doesn’t begin offering prospects until the summer before their junior year, per Swinney’s program policy. But the Tigers are keeping an eye on Johnson-Rubell, including cornerbacks coach Mike Reed, whom Johnson-Rubell hopes to get to know better once Reed can start actively reaching out to him next September.

“I will be happy to gain a relationship with Coach Reed, most definitely,” he said.

This season, Johnson-Rubell made game-day visits to Alabama, Oklahoma and TCU. He has his sights set on making a trip to Clemson this offseason.

“Sometime next summer a visit at Clemson will be very exciting,” he said.

The Tigers could be a major player in his recruitment if they decide to extend an offer down the road.

“Getting an offer from Clemson will be exciting because it has been a powerhouse for the last couple of years,” he said. “It will impact my recruiting due to the tradition at Clemson!”

Johnson-Rubell is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 5 prospect from Texas, No. 3 cornerback nationally and No. 28 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

As a sophomore this season, he recorded 65 tackles, a pick-six, eight pass breakups and a forced fumble while making the transition to safety after playing corner his freshman year.
