Florida football loses out on blue-chip OT to Georgia

The Gators swung and missed on this coveted offensive lineman.

Florida football got some bad news as the calendar flipped from June to July, missing out on four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Michael Uini[/autotag] out of Copperas Cove (Texas) to its rivals north of the border, the Georgia Bulldogs, last Friday according to an announcement made on Twitter.

The 6-foot-7-inch, 335-pound lineman made an official visit to Gainesville during the second weekend of June, spending three days on campus in what he told Gators Online was a trip that “exceeded expectations.” Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome what the Bulldogs had to offer him.

Billy Napier and Co. currently have two offensive tackle commitments in the 2024 class: from Upper Marlboro (Maryland) Charles Herbert Flowers’ Mike Williams and Snellville (Georgia) South Gwinnett’s Marcus Mascoll — both highly regarded as consensus three-star prospects. Mascoll’s physical traits could open up opportunities in the interior line as well.

Uini is ranked No. 145 overall and No. 9 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 150 and 10, respectively.

Michigan football loses out on expected 2024 OT commitment

As expected, but still annoying given that #Michigan led.

Michigan football may have had some big wins on the recruiting trail, but it has also gotten its fair share of inexplicable recent losses.

It started with linebacker Aaron Chiles, the longtime Michigan lean, choosing Florida. His teammate, edge rusher Darien Mayo — also thought to be a Michigan lean — committed to Clemson. The Wolverines lost cornerback Bryce West to Ohio State, and some other prospects leaning toward the maize and blue also appear heading elsewhere.

Along the offensive line, the Wolverines have five commitments — four-stars Luke Hamilton, Andrew Sprague and Blake Frazier along with three-stars Ben Roebuck and Jake Guarnera — but are looking to add more. Texas-based four-star Bennett Warren appears to be heavily favoring the maize and blue, and after a successful official visit on June 16, the Wolverines appeared to be in the driver’s seat for the No. 145 player in the country, Copperas Cove (Texas) four-star offensive tackle Michael Uini.

Uini went from appearing to be destined to stay in the south to suddenly heading north to Michigan, to staying to the south again. After his visit to Athens, the eighth-best offensive tackle in the country was suddenly leaning Georgia, and he made that official on Friday, committing to the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and others. He had a reported 42 offers.

Michigan football offered Uini’s little brother, a 2026 offensive tackle, two weeks ago — his first offer.

The Wolverines will continue to work to add a sixth offensive lineman, the aforementioned Warren, though Tennessee appears to be surging in his recruitment.

Tides are turning against Michigan ahead of 2024 4-star OT announcement

Big bummer.

Four-star Michael Uini has had a quiet recruitment in terms of not many people had an idea of what he was going to do.

Uini is about as big as they come. He stands at 6-foot-7, 290-pounds, and has a ton of big offers. The Copperas Cove (Texas) product has had offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and plenty of others. But he ultimately made a final three of Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia.

Uini took an official visit to Ann Arbor back on June 16 and following the visit recruiting analysts were predicting Uini to head to Michigan — even with five offensive linemen committed to the Wolverines for 2024.

Uini is set to make his announcement on Friday and things are starting to not trend Michigan’s way. There are now two Cyrstal Ball predictions in for Georgia to land Uini — not the Wolverines.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, UGA now leads for Uini with a 55.1% chance — Michigan fell to second. EJ Holland and Zach Libby with The Wolverines both put in a prediction for UGA to land the big tackle.

We will know for sure Friday what Uini decides, but things are starting to flip away from Michigan in this recruitment.

4-star Georgia recruiting target Michael Uini sets commitment date

4-star OT Michael Uini has set a commitment date

2024 offensive tackle Michael Uini announced that he’ll be making his commitment on Friday, June 30.

Uini, a four-star tackle out of Copperas Cove, Texas, ranks as the nation’s No. 127 overall player and as the No. 8 ranked player at his position.

Stacy Searels, Georgia’s offensive line coach, will look to add a few more lineman to his 2024 recruiting class, and Uini appears to be a top target.

Uini was in Athens this past weekend, and also spent time at Michigan, Florida and Clemson this June.

The 6-foot-7, 290 pound Uini was originally offered by UGA last summer.

Based off of Uini’s tweet, it looks like the decision will come down to Alabama, Georgia and Michigan. 247Sports’ crystal ball currently has Uini projected to commit to the Wolverines.

Top Michigan football 2024 OT target sets announcement date; final three schools

This would be a HUGE get! #GoBlue

There was a little quiet spell in Michigan football’s recruiting when the Wolverines didn’t receive a commitment in a week’s time, but the maize and blue landed four-star edge Dominic Nichols on Sunday.

It appears the third-ranked recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite, may gain another commitment on Friday.

Four-star offensive tackle Michael Uini announced on Twitter he planned to announce his commitment on Friday, June 30. Uini also announced the final three teams he is considering: Michigan, Alabama and Georgia.

The Copperas Cove (Texas) prospect is a 6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive tackle. He is the No. 127 recruit in the country and the No. 8 offensive tackle in the 2024 class on the composite.

There are two 247Sports crystal ball predictions for Michigan to land Uini on Friday. Both are from national recruiting analysts. If you look over at the On3 recruiting prediction machine, the Wolverines have a commanding lead to get the massive tackle. The maize and blue have a 94.5% chance to land him.

As it should, Michigan is competing with the heavyweights on the recruiting front. Friday will tell if the Wolverines can win a big battle against two SEC powerhouses.

The Wolverines have five offensive linemen committed in the 2024 class.

New crystal ball predictions in for Michigan football following recruiting weekend

Michigan continues to trend for top targets!

Michigan football landed a pair of commitments this past weekend. Four-star wide receiver I’Marion Stewart pledged to the Wolverines on Friday night and three-star running back Micah Kaapana chose Michigan on Saturday.

The Wolverines hosted some big names, along with several 2024 commits, this past weekend. After the recruiting weekend ended, crystal ball predictions came in for the maize and blue.

Devon Baxter

Three crystal balls came in for Michigan for the three-star edge defender.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound rusher out of Brandywine (Maryland) Gwynn Park is a three-star recruit according to the composite. He was a four-star at one point. He is the 506th-ranked recruit and the 32nd-ranked edge rusher in the 2024 cycle.

Looking at the recruiting prediction machine on On3, Michigan has a 96.1% chance to land Baxter.

Baxter holds offers from Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Minnesota, Tennessee, West Virginia and others.

Michael Uini

Like Baxter, the recruitment of offensive tackle Michael Uini has been rather quiet. But after Uini was on campus this past weekend, two crystal ball predictions came in for the Wolverines by two national recruiting analysts on 247Sports.

The 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle is out of Copperas Cove (Texas) and is a four-star talent according to the composite. He is the 126th-ranked recruit and the eighth OT in the 2024 cycle.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine, the Wolverines have an 87% chance to land the massive tackle.

He holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and many more.

4-star OT taking a closer look at Florida after official visit

The Florida Gators are on the rise for offensive tackle Michael Uini following a recent official visit to the Swamp.

Copperas Cove (Texas) offensive tackle [autotag]Michael Uini[/autotag] made his first visit to the University of Florida over the weekend, and it wasn’t any ordinary trip to the Swamp.

Uini spent three days on campus for an official visit, and meeting the players and coaches went really well, according to Gators Online. He said that the trip “exceeded expectations,” and he has Florida moving up the chain in his recruitment.

“Florida’s up there,” Uini said. “I definitely loved it and my family as well. We all loved the OV, especially for the first time.”

Uini has only been on one other official visit to Clemson, but experiencing things first-hand has him accelerating his commitment timeline. Initially planned for early September, Uini is now looking at late July or early August to make his pledge.

He’ll be by Alabama, Georgia and Michigan throughout June, but the Gators are looking to get him back in town after all of that. Uini is looking at July 29 for that trip, according to GO, but the date isn’t locked in just yet.

Uini would be a massive addition to Florida’s offensive line, literally. He’s 6-foot-7-inches tall and 275 pounds. Billy Napier has always looked for size in his linemen, and in many ways, Uini is the ideal specimen for his offense.

A consensus four-star recruit, ESPN is the highest on him of the four major recruiting services. He cracks the top 100 there at No. 64 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 4 among offensive tackles.

The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four services, has him at No. 148 overall and No. 10 at his position.
