Multiple Ohio State football commits set to square off in Friday’s Ohio High School state title game

Three Ohio State football commits will play in Friday’s Ohio high school division I state title game between St. Edward and Springfield.

Familiar foes in Ohio high school football will square off on Friday night as for the third straight year St. Edward and Springfield go head-to-head in the Division I state championship game.

As expected with two teams playing for a state championship, both squads are loaded with talent as many players for both teams are set to play at the collegiate level and three players in the game are committed to Ohio State.

St. Edward, who will be seeking it third straight Division I state championship features two future Buckeyes on their offensive line as Deontae and Devontae Armstrong are twin brothers each committed to Ohio State.

Ohio State rises to No. 2 nationally after latest 4-star 2024 commitment

Since the new year began one could argue no other program has done a better job.

Ohio State suffered a significant loss in December when No. 1 overall 2024 recruit Dylan Raiola decommitted. However, since the recruiting cycle got busy, no other program has done a better job of accumulating high-end high school football talent from around the country.

Over the last two weeks, the Buckeyes have gotten a flurry of new commitments from blue-chip recruits, including four-star twin offensive tackles Deontae Armstrong and Devontae Armstrong from St. Edward (Ohio). They have also replaced Raiola with Langston Hughes (Ga.) four-star quarterback Air Noland.

The latest addition is Lovejoy (Texas) four-star linebacker Payton Pierce.

According to On3, Pierce had offers from nearly 40 other schools, including Texas, Baylor, North Texas, TCU and Texas A&M. However, Pierce told Nick Harris at Rivals that Ohio State is a special opportunity.

“I have a really great relationship with Coach Laurinaitis. He’s done it at the highest level and he’s done it the right way. I think it’s really cool to have someone who knows how to do it at that university and at that position so I think it’s just a really special opportunity. Their defense fits me real well.”

Pierce (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) is ranked No. 15 among linebackers in his class and No. 27 overall in the state of Texas.

Ohio State’s class of 2024 now has 10 hard commits, with nine of them having a four or five-star rating. This group ranks No. 2 in the nation.

Recruiting Roundup: Ohio State’s twin 4-star OTs among latest college commitments

Ohio State has kicked off the new week with a bang, securing commitments from twin in-state four-star offensive tackles Devontae and Deontae Armstrong.

Ohio State has kicked off the new week with a bang, securing commitments from a pair of twin four-star offensive tackles, Devontae and Deontae Armstrong, from St. Edward (Ohio).

The Armstrongs are only the latest high school football players to choose their college teams, though. Both Oklahoma and Mississippi have picked up four-star recruits for their respective classes of 2024 over the last few days.

With that in mind, here are all of the latest commitments from this past weekend, according to On3’s tracker.

Double BOOM! Twin Ohio offensive lineman commit to Ohio State

A twin BOOM with your morning coffee #GoBucks

Fresh off visits to Columbus, Devontae and Deontae Armstrong again received a feel for what it would be like to continue their playing careers at [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag].

It didn’t take them long to make a decision about what was next. The short weekend trip confirmed their feelings and on Monday morning the twins announced their commitments to head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

Deontae is rated as the No. 25 offensive tackle in the country and the 313th overall player by the 247Sports composite. Devontae is ranked as an interior lineman, ranking as 23rd-best in the country, and 353rd overall player.

Deontae announced the decision first, but his brother followed shortly afterward.

The twins join a 2024 class that has grown to six, including four offensive linemen. ([autotag]Ian Moore[/autotag] and [autotag]Marc Nave[/autotag]) are the other offensive linemen.

Ohio State receives crystal balls for twin Ohio offensive lineman

Keeping the best talent home #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] wasn’t kidding when comments were made about recruiting on a more regional basis due to Name, Image and Likeness.

Yes, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his staff will still seek out the best prospects nationally, but if they believe that the talent is equal at home, then going a bit harder after an Ohioan, or in this case, a pair of them, makes sense.

In January, scholarship offers went out to St. Edward twins Devontae and Deontae Armstrong, each of them possessing the attributes that offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] was looking for. Devontae was offered as an interior offensive lineman while Deontae was as a tackle.

After meeting with the Buckeye coaches, it seems like the Armstrongs are leaning towards staying home. Ohio State’s 247Sports insider, Bill Kurelic, thought enough of the information that he was able to gather and put a crystal ball pick (subscription required) in for each of the twins to end up at Ohio State.

[autotag]Devontae Armstrong[/autotag] stands six-foot-six-inches while weighting 290-pounds. He is the No. 33 ranked offensive tackle and the 446th overall player according to the 247Sports composite. Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, and others have offered.

[autotag]Deontae Armstrong[/autotag] is a bit taller at 6-foot, 7-inches while being a bit lighter at 280-pounds. He is tied with his brother in the rankings and has the same bigger offers, giving more emphasis that they are twins.

Former Notre Dame player put his recruiting hat on trying to lure Ohio offensive tackle

Will the twin’s follow in their high school alums footsteps?

It’s not just the [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football staff that is working social media to help recruit for the Irish, sometimes former players get into the mix especially when the recruits are from their former high school.

That’s exactly the case with former Irish safety [autotag]Shaun Crawford[/autotag] and twins [autotag]Devontae Armstrong[/autotag] and [autotag]Deontae Armstrong[/autotag]. Each of them have an offer from Notre Dame and they currently attend [autotag]Lakewood St. Edward High School[/autotag], which is where Crawford prepped.

What spurred Crawford to put his recruiting hat on was when Deontae shared a recruiting edit of himself in Columbus, as Ohio State recently offered both of them. The former Irish player noted that South Bend isn’t far from home, and [autotag]Harry Hiestand[/autotag] would be their offensive line coach.

This most likely won’t push either Armstrong over the edge, but Crawford is an example of a St. Ed’s player having success outside of Ohio, specifically at Notre Dame.

Ohio State offers in-state 2025 star running back

The Buckeyes don’t have to go far with their most recent offer #GoBucks

There seems to be a bit of a change going on with Ohio State and recruiting Ohioans. Part of it has to do with the talent level in the state, with the upcoming classes having plenty of national prospects.

Another is the fact that other schools have started to make some inroads with Ohio prospects. The Buckeyes still own the state and their recent run of offers show they want that to continue.

Over the past week, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has offered talented in-state players like receiver Dorian Brew and twin offensive lineman [autotag]Devontae Armstrong[/autotag] and [autotag]Deontae Armstrong[/autotag]. Today the trend continued as Ohio State offered 2025 in-state running back Marquise Davis.

The Cleveland native is seeing his recruitment pick up as he previously held offers from Penn State, Michigan State, and a few others. This one is different as Davis has impressed the state’s powerhouse program enough to get a scholarship offer.

Quick hitting Friday Ohio State Football recruiting update

The Buckeyes are at it again, with a bunch of offers out #GoBucks

The Buckeyes are at it again: Another flurry of offers has been sent out to high school prospects. The last time [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his staff offered a bunch of prospects, it was mainly along the defensive line on Wednesday.

It seems Day and his staff have been hard at work going over tape of high school football players and making decisions on scholarships. On Friday, another round went out and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] learned it had missed on an Illinois tight end prospect.

Find out below who was offered, along with which prospect the Buckeyes missed on in another exciting recruiting day for the Buckeyes.
