Jaden Hardy, others skipping on-court scrimmages at draft combine

The potential first-round pick is reportedly among the prospects not expected to scrimmage this week at the NBA draft combine.

Potential first-round pick Jaden Hardy is reportedly among the prospects not expected to scrimmage this week at the NBA draft combine, according to Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report.

The draft combine tipped off on Wednesday and will feature 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Players each year often skip certain portions of the event in order to better position themselves in the draft.

In total, 83 prospects were invited to compete in the combine.

Typically, when a player elects to skip the scrimmage portion of the combine, it could be that they received a draft promise from a team. However, it is a bit early in the process to have received a promise so those not participating are likely sitting out due to other reasons.

Max Christie, JD Davison and Peyton Watson are also not scrimmaging.

In the case of Hardy, he and his camp likely felt as though he showcased everything he needed to throughout the season with the NBA G League Ignite. He had the opportunity to play against strong competition, something that teams value at this stage of the process.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.

See where JD Davison, Keon Ellis land in latest 2022 NBA mock draft

Two former Crimson Tide stars get selected in the latest 2022 NBA mock draft!

Alabama’s 2021-2022 men’s basketball season did not go the way many had hoped. The Crimson Tide made the NCAA Tournament, but was bounced in the first round by Notre Dame.

Numerous players are transferring from the program, few are returning and others are entering the NBA draft.

In the latest 2022 NBA mock draft done by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz.

The mock draft features two former Crimson Tide stars in [autotag]JD Davison[/autotag] and [autotag]Keon Ellis[/autotag].

Though they are both second-round picks, it is likely they will be on an NBA roster. [autotag]Herb Jones[/autotag] on the New Orleans Pelicans is a prime example.

ESPN does not offer explanations for the two picks, but both teams are loaded with young and rising talent. Both Davison and Ellis carry unique skills that could make them valuable players for their potential respective programs.

First … JD Davison

2022 NBA mock draft predicts landing spots for JD Davison and Keon Ellis

See where these Alabama MBB stars are projected to begin their NBA careers!

Alabama men’s basketball’s 2021-2022 season did not go the way many had hoped. Making the NCAA tournament without any fear of being left out on the wrong side of the bubble is a step in the right direction, but there are many areas to improve on. Next season, those improvements will need to be made without [autotag]JD Davison[/autotag] and [autotag]Keon Ellis[/autotag].

Those two players will not be returning to Alabama, or college basketball for that matter. Davison and Ellis have their eyes set on the NBA.

Davison was a one-and-done player and was originally expected to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft. However after a somewhat underwhelming season, his projection has dropped.

Ellis, however, has worked his way into a projected draft position after a strong season.

Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated recently shared his full 2022 NBA mock draft and includes both Davison and Ellis in round No. 2.

First … JD Davsion

Alabama freshman JD Davison to declare for NBA draft

Davison was named to the SEC All-Freshman team after averaging 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and one steal.

Alabama freshman JD Davison announced that he will declare for the 2022 NBA draft. Davison didn’t state if he would be hiring an agent but told Jonathan Givony of ESPN that he is “done with college.”

Davison, who was named to the SEC All-Freshman team, averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and one steal in 33 games. He led the Crimson Tide in assists and finished seventh in the SEC among all players in that category.

The 6-foot-3 guard is projected to be a second-round pick given his elite athleticism and explosiveness to create for himself. His best game of the season came on Dec. 4 when he produced a career-high 20 points in a win over then-No. 3 Gonzaga.

Davison struggled to shoot from deep, converting only 30.1% on 3.9 attempts per game. Despite those concerns, Davison should earn some looks from teams that have development opportunities given his raw athleticism and ability on offense.

He will have the opportunity to participate in private workouts with teams to improve his draft stock over the next two months. He also figures to be a strong candidate to earn an invitation to take part in the draft combine or NBA G League Elite Camp next month.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.

2022 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Jabari Smith rising in latest projections of every pick

Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. highlighted the prospects on the rise in the latest Rookie Wire Mock Draft.

With the 2021-22 basketball season in full swing, scouts and front-office executives have had an extended look at the next wave of prospects set to enter the NBA.

Prior to the beginning of the season, Duke forward Paolo Banchero and Gonzaga center Chet Holmgren dominated the conversation atop most draft boards. However, the top of the draft looks to be changing with Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. emerging in a big way this season.

Rookie Wire took a look at the next rookie class and projected every pick based on the latest information at hand. Of course, with much of the season left to play, these rankings will change but here is how we see things at the moment.

Note: The order of the draft was pulled from Tankathon as of Jan. 19. The 2022 draft may only have 58 picks after the Bucks and Heat were stripped of their second-round picks by the NBA.
