Alabama transfer DL Jamil Burroughs enrolls at Miami, eligible to play in 2023

Alabama transfer defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs has transferred to Miami.

Another Alabama football transfer will be headed to Coral Gables for the 2023 season to join the Miami Hurricanes. On Tuesday, 247Sports’ Gaby Urrutia reported that transfer defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs has enrolled in classes at Miami and will be eligible to play during the 2023 season.

Burroughs spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa. The Georgia native served primarily as a reserve defensive lineman. Burroughs played in 20 games for the Crimson Tide throughout his career. He tallied 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Following an offseason incident, Burroughs entered the transfer portal. He was expected to play a key role on Alabama’s defensive front in 2023. However, he will now be suiting up for the Hurricanes.

Burroughs will reunite with former Alabama teammates Tyler Harrell and Javion Cohen.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding Alabama football.

Projecting Alabama’s defensive line rotation with the departure of Jamil Burroughs

Projecting Alabama’s defensive line rotation with the departure of Jamil Burroughs

It was reported on Friday that senior defensive lineman, Jamil Burroughs had entered the NCAA transfer portal. Burroughs appeared in 20 games for the Crimson Tide over three seasons and accumulated 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Burroughs was expected to be a key piece along the Alabama defensive line in 2023. Now, Nick Saban and position coach Freddie Roach will have to look a little further down the depth chart to fill in the hole left by Burroughs.

While depth is certainly not an issue for Alabama, especially along the defensive line, it won’t be easy to replace the experience that Burroughs would have brought to the lineup.

With Burroughs out of the picture, let’s try and project what the rotation up front might look like for the Crimson Tide this fall.

Alabama DL Jamil Burroughs enters transfer portal

After 3 seasons, Alabama defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs has entered the transfer portal.

The Alabama defensive line unit took a hit on Friday evening as senior defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs entered his name into the transfer portal.

Before signing with Alabama, Burroughs was committed to Georgia for over a year.

Burroughs signed with the Crimson Tide as a part of the 2020 recruiting class. He was ranked as a four-star prospect according to 247Sports‘ Composite Rankings.

In the three seasons that Burroughs spent in Tuscaloosa, he appeared in 20 games. He tallied 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. Burroughs was expected to compete for a starting spot at nose guard during fall camp.

Now, Burroughs will be exploring his options and spending the rest of his college career elsewhere.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s defensive line

Projecting Alabama’s defensive line depth chart post-spring!

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

We have already taken a look at the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, and the offensive line. Now that we have completed the offensive side, let’s shift our focus to the defensive side of the ball and look at the defensive line.

5 potential breakout players following Alabama’s bye week

5 potential breakout players following Alabama’s bye week.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team are wrapping up their bye before completing the final third of the regular season.

Despite their loss to Tennessee, the Crimson Tide still remain in the hunt for an SEC West crown and a trip to the SEC Championship. But the road to Atlanta will not be easy for the Tide.

Following the bye week, Alabama will make back-to-back road trips to ranked LSU and ranked Ole Miss before finishing the season off at home with Austin Peay and arch-rival Auburn.

It seems like every year a handful of players find their groove toward the back half of the season and begin to make an impact on the team. Let’s take a look at five potential members of the Crimson Tide that could breakout following the bye week.

Projecting Alabama’s depth along the defensive line entering the 2022 season

Despite not having a proven star, Alabama has plenty of depth along the defensive line entering the 2022 season.

Football is back, Tide fans! Alabama will kick the 2022 football season off in one week and the anticipation continues to mount.

As is the case in most seasons, questions regarding the starting lineup for week one are dominating message boards and Twitter threads. Well, with the season just around the corner, I thought I would start dropping my educated projections of who you might see take the first snaps at each position group.

Some groups are obvious such as quarterback and linebacker, but nevertheless, we will take a look at each group and give a little insight into who you might see take the field against Utah State on Sept. 3.

Today we are going to take a look at a group that has plenty of depth but maybe lacks a bit of star power at the moment: the defensive line.

This list will be a touch different because I believe you are going to see several different packages on the defensive line for Alabama, so I will simply list all of the players who I project to have significant playing time.

Let’s roll!

5 Alabama players who will improve their stats in 2022

These five players should see tremendous improvement in the 2022 season.

The start of the college football season is just around the corner. The 2022 SEC media days will take place this next week and within a couple of weeks, teams will return to the practice field to start fall camp.

With the season so close, I thought we could take a few moments to look at a handful of Alabama players who I believe are set to improve from the 2021 season.

I have decided not to include reigning Heisman Trophy winner [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] and dominating defender [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] on the list because that just seems unfair.

Instead, I am going to give you five players who may not have had a large role in 2021 but are poised to improve this fall.

Let’s roll!

Alabama countdown to kickoff: 98 days

With just 98 days until Alabama kicks off its 2022 football season, let’s take a closer look at which player wears No. 98 for the Tide now.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2022 college football season in 98 days, as Utah State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 3.

This will be Alabama’s first season-opener at home in quite some time, as the 18-time national champs are usually selected for a nationally televised kickoff game at a neutral site against a big-time opponent.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and his team take the field.

Today, with 98 days remaining, we take a look at a rising star that wears the No. 98 currently for the Crimson Tide, [autotag]Jamil Burroughs[/autotag].

Burroughs came to Tuscaloosa as a four-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class and has waited his turn. If his play during spring is any indication of what is to come this fall, Burroughs will play an important role along Alabama’s defensive line.

5 defensive players Alabama fans need to watch during A-Day

5 defensive players Alabama fans need to watch during A-Day

Alabama’s annual A-Day game is set to kick off on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

There is plenty of talent both young and old to be excited about if you are a ‘Bama fan, and it will also be our first opportunity of the spring to see this year’s version of the Tide.

In his Thursday press conference leading up to A-Day, head coach Nick Saban said the format for the scrimmage would be the first-team offense against the first-team defense and the second-team offense against the second-team defense. With this format, fans will get to experience a more game-like scenario with good on good.

Leading up to the start of A-Day, I wanted to sit down and give fans a handful of players from each side of the ball that I believe could make an impact during the scrimmage. I want fans to keep in mind that these are players that fans have not seen make a tremendous impact yet for the Crimson Tide, but could on Saturday and during the 2022 season.

Yesterday we looked at the offensive players, today we will look at the defensive side of the ball.

Alabama football: Grading Alabama’s commanding win over Southern Miss

Here’s our final grade for Alabama’s commanding victory over Southern Miss!

No. 1 Alabama dominated its inferior opponent in Southern Miss on Saturday night with a 63-14 victory. Alabama was able to control all three phases of the game and provided its most complete performance of the season.

Each week we give a grade out for all three phases of the game, let’s see how the team did this week!

OFFENSE: A+

The Alabama offense, led by Bryce Young put together its most balanced performance of the season. The lack of a consistent running game through the first three games of the season had started to become a cause of concern for this team. Even though Southern Miss doesn’t have the type of players Alabama will face in the SEC, it was nice to see the offensive line open up holes for the backs and the backs make some explosive plays in the run game.

Roydell Williams led all rushers with 110 yards on 11 carries for an average of 10 yards per carry. Williams also had a run of 55 yards in the first half. Jase McClellan added another 98 yards on the ground, which included a long of 27.

Bryce Young displayed his pinpoint accuracy going 20-22 passing for 313 yards and 5 touchdowns. Junior tight end Jahleel Billingsley showed off his talents by catching 5 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown.

Alabama was able to play several young players late in the contest. True freshman quarterback Jalen Milroe was able to record his first career touchdown pass on Saturday night with a 24-yard rope to Javon Baker.

The Alabama offense seems to be finding its groove at just the right time!

DEFENSE: A-

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Like the offense, the Alabama defense put together a much-needed consistent performance. The 14 points allowed are a little more than most fans would have wanted, but the Tide defense gave up just over 200 yards to the Golden Eagles and just 3.7 yards per play.

The defensive line had its best performance of the season and some depth may have been discovered in players such as Jamil Burroughs and LaBryan Ray.

Will Anderson continues to dominate racking up three tackles for loss and one sack.

The Tide defense will need to bring its best effort next Saturday against Lane Kiffin and the high-powered Ole Miss offense.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A+

Gary Cosby-USA TODAY Sports

Not much to say here, Jameson Williams returned two kickoffs for a touchdown. Anytime you put points on the board from one of the special team’s units, things are going pretty well.

Nick Saban and special teams coordinator Drew Svoboda have to be pleased with the efforts of the special team units so far this season.

Although the opponent was not the best, the Tide delivered its most complete performance of the season. Both sides of the ball handled the line of scrimmage and the skill position players made plays.

We got a taste of how good this Alabama team could be, let’s see if they can build off this week’s performance and rise to the occasion against a talented Ole Miss team.
