Former Alabama DL Monkell Goodwine announces SEC transfer destination

Former Alabama DL Monkell Goodwine is staying in the SEC

Former Alabama defensive lineman [autotag]Monkell Goodwine[/autotag] announced on Sunday his commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Goodwine is a former four-star recruit from Maryland and joined [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide as a part of the 2021 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman would redshirt his first season in Tuscaloosa and would only see action in three games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Goodwine will be entering his redshirt junior season when he joins the Gamecocks and will have two years of eligibility remaining and will likely have a much larger role with South Carolina during that time than if he stayed with the Crimson Tide.

Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s defensive line

Projecting Alabama’s defensive line depth chart post-spring!

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

We have already taken a look at the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, and the offensive line. Now that we have completed the offensive side, let’s shift our focus to the defensive side of the ball and look at the defensive line.

5 defensive players Alabama fans need to watch during A-Day

5 defensive players Alabama fans need to watch during A-Day

Alabama’s annual A-Day game is set to kick off on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

There is plenty of talent both young and old to be excited about if you are a ‘Bama fan, and it will also be our first opportunity of the spring to see this year’s version of the Tide.

In his Thursday press conference leading up to A-Day, head coach Nick Saban said the format for the scrimmage would be the first-team offense against the first-team defense and the second-team offense against the second-team defense. With this format, fans will get to experience a more game-like scenario with good on good.

Leading up to the start of A-Day, I wanted to sit down and give fans a handful of players from each side of the ball that I believe could make an impact during the scrimmage. I want fans to keep in mind that these are players that fans have not seen make a tremendous impact yet for the Crimson Tide, but could on Saturday and during the 2022 season.

Yesterday we looked at the offensive players, today we will look at the defensive side of the ball.

BREAKING: Alabama lands commitment No. 20 for 2021

Alabama landed commitment No. 20 for the 2021 class on Saturday morning in defensive tackle Tim Keenan, a 3-star prospect out of Birmingham.

Alabama held on to the No. 1 ranking in the 2021 recruiting class for a short period of time, but the Ohio State Buckeyes managed to take it back with a recent commitment from defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.

Well, the Crimson Tide matched on Saturday morning with a commitment from another interior defensive lineman. Tim Keenan, a three-star defensive tackle from Birmingham (Ala.), made his announcement to join Alabama’s 2021 class.

The 6-foot-2, 330-pounder out of Ramsay High School is commitment No. 20 for the Crimson Tide. He joins a strong defensive line class for Nick Saban and company, joining the following prospects:

Keenan is rated as the nation’s No. 362 overall player, No. 22 defensive tackle and No. 9 player from the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

He is the fourth in-state player to commit to the Crimson Tide, tying the state of Alabama with Texas for the second-most commitments — the state of Florida currently has five players committed to Alabama.

It will be interesting to see where this lands Alabama’s class in relation to Ohio State’s, so keep a close eye on those recruiting rankings today.

Four-star SDE Monkell Goodwine is set to make his college decision on Saturday after narrowing his list down to five schools.

The recruiting world has been turned upside down due to the coronavirus, but that does not mean that it has stopped. In fact, Alabama has seen 15 of its current 16 players for the 2021 commit during the global pandemic.

Monkell Goodwine, a four-star strongside defensive end from National Christian Academy in Fort Washington (Md.), is set to make his college decision on Saturday. According to a Tweet from Real Live Sports Nation, that decision is set to come at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 CT).

The final five schools who have all been fighting for Monkell’s commitment are Alabama, Clemson, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Arizona State. The Crimson Tide, according to the Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports, are currently considered the favorite.

Alabama in good position for 2021 4-star SDE Monkell Goodwine

Alabama made the final five for four-star strong-side defensive end Monkell Goodwine, who is being heavily pursued by several top schools.

Recruiting never stops in the college football world, and that certainly holds true for Nick Saban and the University of Alabama. If a team wants a player, it’s almost certain that there’s going to be a fight for him.

The good news is the Crimson Tide’s head coach is one of the best in the business, and his staff in Tuscaloosa continues to put the program in a great position with several of the nation’s top recruits.

Most recently, it’s 2021 four-star strong-side defensive end Monkell Goodwine, who released his top five schools on Thursday via his Twitter account:

It might surprise some to see Maryland make Goodwine’s final five in addition to Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Penn State, but it shouldn’t.

Former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley is an excellent recruiting and is really starting to build something, and to help his case with this particular recruit, Goodwine plays for National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland.

It’s hard to say which of these schools is the current favorite to land the 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end’s services, but the Crimson Tide look to be in great shape with defensive coordinator Pete Golding and running backs coach Charles Huff as his main two recruiters.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Goodwine is rated as the nation’s No. 114 overall player, No. 9 strong-side defensive end and No. 5 player from the state of Maryland.

As far as 247Sports’ own rankings, he is the No. 201 overall player, No. 10 strong-side defensive end and No. 8 player from his home state.

The Georgia Bulldogs are in Monkell Goodwine’s top eight schools. Goodwine is a four-star defensive end in the class of 2021. He plays at National Christian Academy and is from Fort Washington, Maryland.

Goodwine announced his top-eight a couple days ago via Twitter:

Georgia joins Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M in Goodwine’s top eight. The 2021 defensive end has a year plus to decide where he’ll attend college. Georgia offered Goodwine in January of this year.

Goodwine will potentially join Georgia’s three 2021 commitments. Kirby Smart and the coaching staff aren’t focusing on the 2021 class quite yet. They still have quite a bit of work left for the class of 2020. Georgia has sixteen commitments and several elite targets remaining.
