WATCH: Jalen Hurts sat down with ‘GMA’ to discuss his support for Philly schools

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts sat down with ‘Good Morning America’ to discuss his Touchdowns for Air Conditioners initiative for Philadelphia public schools

Jalen Hurts has spent the last year trying to keep city schools cool during the summer, and he’s taking his efforts to another level. On the Friday before kickoff in Sao Paulo,  the Jalen Hurts Foundation announced that throughout the 2024 NFL season, for every touchdown the Eagles quarterback scores this year, they will donate $5,000 to improve air conditioning at ten additional Philadelphia schools.

The Jalen Hurts Foundation continues its Keep It Cool Initiative by launching a season-long TDs for ACs campaign. In the 2024-25 season, the foundation will donate $5,000 per Jalen Hurts touchdown to improve air conditioning at ten additional Philadelphia schools. With almost 100 schools and 50,000 students still lacking proper cooling, your support is vital. Fans can contribute to the Keep It Cool Initiative by making a one-time or monthly tax-deductible donation.
Together, we can create a better learning environment and help students thrive despite extreme heat.

Hurts is now getting his message out to the rest of the country, and on Tuesday, Philadelphia’s star quarterback appeared on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ where he discussed his Touchdowns for Air Conditioners initiative.

The Eagles star quarterback signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension last spring and put his new money to work, looking to impact the community. In May, Hurts donated $200,000 to Philadelphia schools for new air conditioning in 10 schools.

Now, the Jalen Hurts Foundation plans to address the needs of the nearly 100 remaining schools without air conditioners.

Hurts previously provided $200,000 worth of air conditioners to ten Philly schools: Clara Barton, Gloria Casarez, Castor Gardens, D. Newlin Fell, Thomas Finletter, Fliter Academic Plus, Benjamin Franklin/Science Leadership Academy, Edward Gideon, Abram Jens, and T. Roosevelt. The district listed these schools as earmarked for new air conditioning units.

Saquon Barkley is set to earn massive bonus despite losing TDs to Jalen Hurts

Saquon Barkley is on the cusp of massive bonuses despite Jalen Hurts poaching touchdowns

Saquon Barkley is a really smart player and exceptional businessman, so it shouldn’t be a shock that he negotiated his contract around the tush push and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Barkley signed a three-year, $37.8 million deal with the Eagles in free agency with plenty of bonuses and incentives.  Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has over 50+ career rushing touchdowns, and thanks to the Tush Push, the Pro Bowl signal-caller has been known to steal a touchdown or two.

Ian Rapoport reports that Barkley did a great job of negotiating incentives and bonuses that had nothing to do with touchdowns scored.

According to NFL Research, Barkley has been tackled at the 1- or 2-yard line 11 times this season, most in the NFL.

Barkley’s contract is set up so that the running back can earn up to an additional $3 million in individual and team incentives for performance this season.

If Barkley logs 1,500 rushing and receiving yards combined (he’s already at 1,347), he’ll earn a $250,000 incentive. He’ll pick up another $250,000 for 2,000 total yards. The amount earned from his yardage incentive would also be added to his 2025 salary as an escalator. For Barkley, 2,000 combined yards would net him $1 million total.

For a first-team All-Pro selection, Barkley earns a $500,000 incentive. A second-team honor or being voted into the Pro Bowl would earn him $250,000. Those incentives would also be added to his 2025 base salary as an escalator.

Barkley also has up to $500,000 tied to the Eagles’ postseason performance.

Victories in the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl would net Barkley $250,000 each. (For this incentive, he must rush for 1,000 yards in the regular season, which he’s already done.)

Eagles move to 8-2 after 26-18 win over the Commanders in Week 11

Eagles move to 8-2 after 26-18 win over the Commanders in Week 11

It was another ugly start with seven points left on the board, but Philadelphia continued to hit Washington with body blows, and the Commanders eventually folded. The Eagles have won six games in a row, and they’re 8-2 and in firm control of the NFC East after a 26-18 win over the Commanders on Amazon Prime’s ‘Thursday Night Football.’

Saquon Barkley set the tone and threw the knockout punches, rushing 26 times for 146 yards (5.6 avg) and two explosive touchdown runs.

Barkley scored 23 yards and 39 yards on plays to put Philadelphia up 26-10 before a late touchdown to Zach Ertz.

Washington was 3-12 on third downs, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked three times on the night while going 22 of 32 passing for 191 yards (6.0), one touchdown, and one interception, with an 81.6 rating. On the other side, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was 18 of 28 passing for 221 yards (7.9 avg), zero touchdowns, and an 88.5 rating.

Commanders lead Eagles 7-3 at halftime

Commanders lead the Eagles 7-3 at halftime.

You were sadly mistaken if you were expecting a shootout on Thursday Night Football between the Washington Commanders (7-3) and the Philadelphia Eagles (7-2). At halftime, the underdog Commanders lead the Eagles 7-3.

The Eagles began the game on offense, but Washington’s defense forced a stop, and Philadelphia kicker Jake Elliott missed a field goal. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders went on offense and went three-and-out.

After an Eagles’ punt, Daniels found running back Austin Ekeler for a short gain and the veteran did the rest, going 34 yards and giving Washington a first down at the Philly 24-yard line. Three plays later, running back Brian Robinson Jr. scored from one yard to give the Commanders an early 7-0 lead.

The Eagles missed another field but made one just before halftime, and that’s about it from an offensive perspective.

Neither quarterback looked particularly strong in the first half. Daniels completed eight of 13 passes for 83 yards. He also rushed for eight yards on three carries.

Jalen Hurts completed 10 of 10 passes for 101 yards. Running back Saquon Barkley has 15 carries for 56 yards, but Washington’s defense has done a good job of getting off the field.

The Eagles won the time of possession battle (18:29/11:31). Philadelphia outgained Washington 174-124.

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin does not have one target in the first half.

Washington opens the second half with the football.

The Eagles ran the worst trick play of the year, and it backfired spectacularly

Well, this didn’t work.

The Philadelphia Eagles learned the hard way on Thursday night about what happens when a trick play backfires spectacularly.

The team tried to run a funky formation against the visiting Washington Commanders in the second quarter, one involving multiple hand-offs that would eventually set up quarterback Jalen Hurts for a pass.

Well, Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu called it immediately and sacked Hurts right before he could set himself up for a pass for a substantial loss of yards for Philly. Even worse, Hurts looked a little shaken up on the play… which could have been avoided if they had simply just not called it.

It is not funny how easy it was for Washington to snuff out this Eagles trick play. If you’re Philadelphia, you’re taking this formation, burning it and burying the ashes somewhere that nobody can find them. Yikes.

Prediction and betting odds for Commanders vs. Eagles in Week 11

Analyzing Commanders vs. Eagles game with odds and lines, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) host the Washington Commanders in the Week 11 edition of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. It’s a showdown for first place in the NFC East between the Eagles and resurgent Commanders.

It’s Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels’ first career start against Philadelphia. He’s excited to play in front of the passionate Eagles’ fan base.

“I’m excited just to go to Philly and that type of atmosphere,” Daniels said Tuesday. “Heard they got very passionate fans, so man, I can’t wait. I can’t wait to go out there and see that fan base, and just experience that. And I know it’s going to be a great venue, a great site, and we’ll just go out there and see what happens.”

Will the Commanders shock the Eagles? Here are the latest odds ahead of Thursday’s game. The Commanders Wire staff also makes game predictions.

Commanders vs. Eagles game odds:

All NFL Odds via BetMGM:

  • Commanders OT Brandon Coleman: Questionable (shoulder)
  • Commanders OT Andrew Wylie: Questionable (shoulder)
  • Commanders K Austin Seibert: Out (hip)
  • Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore: Out (hamstring)

Commanders vs. Eagles prediction, pick:

Bryan Manning: A hard-fought game that comes down to the wire, but the Eagles are healthy, while the Commanders are banged up. Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown have big games for the Eagles, as Washington has no answer Brown. Jayden Daniels makes it close, but the Eagles pull away late behind the legs of Barkley. Eagles 27, Commanders 24

Ivan Lambert: Will Washington be able to run the ball effectively against the Eagles? They will need to keep scoring and keep their own defense off the field long enough for some good breaks.

Though Jayden Daniels had a subpar game against the Steelers, is still fourth in the NFL in QBR. So Daniels has shown an ability to move the chains and get into the end zone.

The Eagles, meanwhile, have surrendered only 161 points this season. They no doubt will have watched the Steelers film and made the adjustments to play Daniels the same way, taking away his runs.

Saquon Barkley teamed with this Eagles offense may be too much for the Washington defense. Eagles 23, Commanders 20

Serena Burks: The Eagles will be a tough test for the Commanders, and this game sets the tone for the remainder of the season for both teams. The Eagles have the edge because they’re at home, but the Commanders are hungry. They haven’t lost back-to-back games all season, and I don’t think that starts now. Plus, the Eagles’ last five games have all been against sub-.500 teams. It will be close and probably won’t be pretty, but the Commanders win. Commanders 30, Eagles 27

Commanders vs. Eagles: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 11

There are three reasons for optimism ahead of the Eagles and Commanders Thursday night primetime divisional matchup in Week 11.

The Washington Commanders suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. The Commanders fought until the end but turned the ball over on downs with just over a minute left to play, and the Steelers took the win.

While losing isn’t fun, we must understand that the Commanders sat some injured players who typically play. They did that because it’s a short week, and this week, they face a division rival in the Philadelphia Eagles. Due to its playoff implications, this game matters more than the Steelers’ game. Head coach Dan Quinn insisted this wasn’t the case, but Washington clearly didn’t want to risk further injury to some of its already ailing starters.

The loss to the Steelers put the Eagles ahead of the Commanders in the NFC East.

A win on Thursday will not only put the Commanders back at the top of the NFC East but also control their playoff destiny for the rest of the season. At this point, the New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys don’t pose a threat. A win over the Eagles will set up the Commanders for success going forward.

So, even though taking a loss is hard, there are still reasons to be optimistic about their matchup against the Eagles, and we have three of those reasons listed below.

Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Jalen Hurts has fewer passing yards than Dak Prescott

Yes, you read that right. Jalen Hurts has 1,976 passing yards this season while Dak Prescott has 1,978. It’s not a big difference, but consider that Dak has played one fewer game than Hurts. Now, Prescott averages 6.9 yards per throw while Hurts averages 8.4, but Hurts’ lack of passing yards is a huge indicator that they like to run the ball. And with a guy like Saquon Barkley as your ball carrier, why wouldn’t you run the ball more than you throw it?

The point is that their offense is one-dimensional. Hurts’ receiving corps is banged up, and his line has allowed 26 sacks this season. This bodes well for a Commanders’ secondary without cornerback Marshon Lattimore on the field this week.

No back-to-back losses this season

So far in 2024, the Commanders have not posted back-to-back losses. This 7-3 Commanders team is much different from last year’s four-win team. Jayden Daniels isn’t just making his name heard for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, but he’s making a case for MVP of the entire league. He doesn’t want to lose back-to-back games, especially a guy coming out of LSU, where he’s used to winning games. He certainly doesn’t want to lose.

The Commanders’ defense doesn’t want to lose either. They have to be proud of the work they’ve put in this season and how well it’s paying off despite not having all of its pieces in place. This team has already proven that offense, defense, and special teams all have a singular mindset, a singular goal to win games. And it’s working.

Commanders hold all-time series record

The Commanders and Eagles have met 180 times since 1934; this will be their 181st meeting. Over that time period, the Commanders own the overall record 89-85-6. The two teams are typically pretty evenly matched, although looking through the history, you can see spells of one team dominating the other.

For example, the Eagles have won seven of their 10 meetings over the last five years. But that’s just another indication that it’s the Commanders’ turn. With their starters back on the field on Thursday, it will still be a tight game, but the Commanders have the edge, if for no other reason than that.

Commanders vs. Eagles: Who opens as the Week 11 favorite?

Who opens Week 11 as the favorite?

It’s finally here. The Washington Commanders (7-3) and the Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) play in the Week 11 edition of Thursday Night Football from Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles enter Thursday as the new leaders of the NFC East a half-game. Philadelphia won its fifth in a row Sunday against Dallas, while Washington’s three-game winning streak was snapped in a heartbreaking 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s clear the NFC East is a two-team race: the Commanders and Eagles. This will be rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ first NFL start against Philly. So, who is the favorite?

According to BetMGM, the Eagles open Week 11 as solid 3.5-point favorites. Considering they’re at home and playing well, that’s not surprising. Washington can revert back to being underdogs, a role it has relished under head coach Dan Quinn.

Here are the early lines ahead of Thursday night’s NFC East battle between the Commanders and Eagles.
