An elite edge rusher from the state of Alabama included Clemson in his top schools list on Monday.

Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) four-star defensive end Hunter Osborne announced a top 10 that features the Tigers along with Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Southern Cal and Oregon.

Osborne (6-4, 260) is the No. 13 defensive lineman and No. 113 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per 247Sports.

Osborne attended the Tigers’ second junior day of the year — their “spring elite day” — on Saturday, March 5 and came away from the visit blown away by the visit and everything Clemson had to offer.

“It was amazing, to be honest with you,” Osborne told The Clemson Insider. “It exceeded my expectations. It caught me by surprise, just the family environment. Every single coach there, everyone was just so genuine. I truly enjoyed myself.”

The Tigers extended an offer to Osborne, who lists more than four dozen total offers, during the spring elite day visit.

One of the most coveted defensive linemen in the 2023 class has narrowed down his recruitment as we get further into the spring period.

Hunter Osborne, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman from Trussville, Alabama, listed the Oregon Ducks in his top-10. The 4-star prospect who holds 50 D1 offers also included Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Auburn, and USC.

Osborne is listed as the No. 13 DL in the 2023 class, and No. 113 player overall, according to 247Sports. As he gets closer to his senior season, we will watch Osborn continue his recruitment and hopefully make it out to Eugene for a visit with Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

Newly-offered DL can see himself fitting into Clemson’s scheme

An elite edge rusher from the state of Alabama made his return visit to Clemson’s campus this past weekend and left with an offer in hand.

Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) 2023 four-star Hunter Osborne attended the Tigers’ second junior day of the year — their “spring elite day” — this past Saturday and came away from the visit just blown away from the visit and everything Clemson had to offer.

“It was amazing, to be honest with you,” Osborne told The Clemson Insider. “It exceeded my expectations. It caught me by surprise, just the family environment. Every single coach there, everyone was just so genuine. I truly enjoyed myself.”

Osborne’s favorite part of the visit was definitely getting to see the whole campus and getting to spend time with the coaching staff. Osborne liked Nick Eason when he was at Auburn, so it felt good to rekindle that relationship now that the defensive tackles coach is at Clemson.

He also got to spend some time with Lemanski Hall and Dabo Swinney, who were both present when the Tigers pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer.

“It was a blessing,” he said. “I’m not gonna lie, I was very shocked because it was like in the moment. Coach Hall told me that he wanted to offer me and I was just listening to Coach Swinney talk the whole time and just listening to Coach Eason and Coach Hall and everyone’s philosophy. I was just excited and I still am. I already can’t wait to get back up there.”

“It felt great because Clemson doesn’t offer that many guys every single year,” Osborne added. “For them to trust me enough, to offer me as a player and as a person, it felt great.”

Well into the next day, Osborne was still thinking about being offered by the Tigers. It hadn’t left his mind and he isn’t so sure when it will.

Things have come full circle for Osborne. He participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer and was pretty sure the coaching staff didn’t know who he was.

Things have, of course, changed since then, as Osborne is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country with just about every offer you can think of and Clemson has become one of the top schools in his recruitment

“I don’t know the exact spot, but they’re some of the best of the best in my recruitment,” he said. “I don’t want to put an exact number because anything can happen, anything can change, but they’re definitely up there.”

Shortly after his Clemson visit, Osborne took to Twitter to announce that he will be dropping his top-10 schools come Monday, March 14. The Tigers will presumably make the cut after helping themselves this past weekend.

While Osborne had obviously been coached up by Hall before when he camped at Clemson, he got to see Clemson’s defensive ends coach and Eason first-hand at practice on Saturday. He was certainly a fan of what he

“Oh, definitely,” Osborne said. “The way that they coach, the style that they coach, what they teach and what they’re coaching, I can definitely see myself fitting into their scheme.”

Clemson is set to host a slew of top prospects today for its second junior day of the year, which the Tigers are dubbing their “spring elite day” for recruits in the class of 2023.

Among the headliners expected to be in attendance is Central (Phenix City, Ala.) five-star A.J. Harris, the nation’s No. 2 cornerback and No. 17 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder has made multiple trips to Tiger Town and is a priority target for the Tigers. Last September, he released a top seven comprised of Clemson, Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio State.

Harris will be joined on campus by a host of other talented defensive backs, including Harris’ teammate at Central, cornerback Quintavious Billingsley; Lake Mary (Fla.) four-star cornerback Braedan Marshall; Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) three-star cornerback Colton Hood; Daniel (Central, S.C.) cornerback Misun Kelley; North Oconee (Bogart, Ga.) cornerback Khalil Barnes; Loachapoka (Auburn, Ala.) cornerback Jacorious Hart; Milton (Alpharetta, Ga.) three-star safety Robert Billings; and A.C. Reynolds (Asheville, N.C.) safety Dashawn Stone.

Another headliner slated to be on hand for the spring elite day is Oceanside Collegiate Academy (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) four-star offensive lineman Monroe Freeling.

It will mark his first visit to Clemson since attending the Florida State game in late October of last year. He was also on campus last June to participate in the Dabo Swinney Camp, after which he picked up an offer from the Tigers.

Freeling said during a recent interview with The Clemson Insider that the Tigers “stand highly” in his recruitment heading into today’s visit.

“I really loved the culture there when I first went up and I’ve been maintaining a good relationship with (offensive line) coach (Thomas) Austin,” he said, “and I’m just looking forward to growing it some more when I get out there.”

Along with Clemson, which is heavily pursuing Freeling, he named Miami and Notre Dame as a couple of schools that have been recruiting him the hardest.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Freeling is the No. 1 prospect in South Carolina, No. 9 offensive tackle nationally and No. 82 overall prospect for the 2023 class.

South Point (Belmont, N.C.) four-star offensive lineman Sullivan Absher will also return to Clemson after picking up an offer from the Tigers in February – an offer that he told TCI he “had been working for, for a very long time.”  He previously traveled to Clemson twice during this past season – first for the Boston College game in October and then for the Wake Forest game in November.

Another big-time offensive lineman will be on campus today as well in Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) four-star tackle Zechariah Owens.

As for the defensive linemen expected to be among the junior day visitors, there are several prominent prospects, namely St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) four-star David Ojiegbe, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) four-star Hunter Osborne, Rome (Ga.) four-star Stephiylan Green, Upson-Lee (Thomaston, Ga.) four-star T.J. Searcy and Woodward Academy (Atlanta, Ga.) four-star A.J. Hoffler.

A bunch of other standout class of 2023 prospects are on the expected guest list for the spring elite day, as well, including Hickory Ridge (Harrisburg, N.C.) four-star wide receiver Christian Hamilton; Bridgeland (Cypress, Texas) four-star tight end Reid Mikeska; Denmark (Alpharetta, Ga.) four-star linebacker Dee Crayton; Fairfax (Va.) four-star linebacker Tony Rojas; F.W. Buchholz (Gainesville, Fla.) three-star wide receiver Creed Whittemore; Maiden (N.C.) High School three-star wide receiver Chris Culliver; Phoebus (Hampton, Va.) three-star athlete Jordan Bass; Sumter (S.C.) athlete Zyeir Gamble; and Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) running back Jarvis Green.

A few notable 2024 prospects are planning to visit Clemson today, too, in Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) four-star defensive back Tavoy Feagin, Weddington (Matthews, N.C.) tight end Brooks Mauk and Towers (Decatur, Ga.) wide receiver/cornerback Keshawn Weathers.

Fast-rising pass-rusher looking forward to visiting Clemson next month

As of late, Clemson has been showing a lot of interest in a talented Yellowhammer State pass-rusher, who has been in contact with Lemanski Hall.

A few weeks ago, Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) 2023 four-star defensive end Hunter Osborne reached out to Clemson’s defensive ends coach. Osborne was checking in with Hall, who gave him his number and said to call him.

“We talked and caught up and he remembered that I came to camp in the summer,” Osborne told The Clemson Insider. “A lot has changed since the summer. I’ve received a few offers since the summer and he acknowledged that. He went back and watched my tape. He said I’m a baller and he didn’t know how he missed me.

“So, me and him have been talking a lot the past few weeks. I talk with Coach (Wesley) Goodwin a lot too. We’ve just been getting to know each other these past few weeks more and more.”

Osborne feels fortunate that he’s been able to rekindle that relationship with Clemson and its coaching staff, despite the numerous staff changes that the Tigers underwent this offseason.

“Yeah, I’m happy because I like the staff,” he said. “I know there have been a few changes, but Coach Hall, he was a cool guy at camp and he’s definitely still a cool guy now, so I’m happy that that relationship is starting back up.”

Hall actually invited Osborne to attend Clemson’s Elite Junior Day on Jan. 29, but he had already planned on being at LSU that weekend. He stuck to his original plans and determined with Hall and Goodwin, Clemson’s defensive coordinator and linebackers, that sometime in March for a spring practice would probably work best.

Osborne said that he is 100% looking forward to getting back to Clemson.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Osborne is weighing all his options. Although at the moment, he indicated that he has a few schools higher than others and will be visiting or trying to get to those schools in the near future. He isn’t in a rush to make a decision and hypothesized that he could commit prior to the first game of his senior season.

Osborne (6-3, 250) lists nearly 40 FBS scholarship offers and ranks as the No. 25 defensive lineman and No. 184 overall player nationally in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

How would he describe himself as a player to someone who may not have seen him play before?

“I would say I’m different,” he said. “I’m very smart when it comes to playing football, the D-line position. I can play almost every position on the line. I’m very versatile. I’m very strong at the point of attack.”

Osborne predicates his game on his run defense, which he views as his strong suit.

When Hall finally got around to watching his film, what did he tell Osborne that he liked about his game?

“He said I’m very physical and that I have very violent hands,” Osborne replied. “Run to the ball, high motor, driving linemen into the backfield. Overall, I just make a lot of plays.”

This past summer, Osborne participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp and was coached up by Hall and Todd Bates, who has since left to be a part of the University of Oklahoma coaching staff. Osborne was able to detail his experience and what he enjoyed about his time at Clemson.

“It was very organized,” he said. “It was very player-led too. They had a bunch of guys helping out and giving back. I thought that was great. I thought that was different. Many schools didn’t do that. They were the first that I’ve been to that let the players really help out. It was good being down there for the first time. That was my first time at Clemson. I enjoyed it overall.”
