Head coach Fred Hoiberg believes Griffiths has the potential to thrive as a Cornhuskers.

He handles the ball well and possesses the length and athleticism to give us flexibility and positional size in our lineup. Gavin has a year of Big Ten experience under his belt, and you could see his confidence grow over the course of last season, especially in the last month when he shot 37 percent from 3-point range.”

In 32 games this season, he averaged 5.8 points per game while shooting 32.4% from the field. Rutgers Wire reports that he struggled to get consistent playing time and showed improvement down the stretch.

Griffiths was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023. His only other campus visit was to Providence two weeks ago. He was a four-star recruit in 2023 and was ranked as the second-best prospect in the state of Connecticut. He finished his high school career scoring over 1,000 points.

Utah guard commits to Nebraska

In 16 games this past season, he averaged 9.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game.

A Utah point guard announced his commitment to Nebraska on Monday evening. Rollie Worster entered the portal after spending the last three seasons with the Utes.

Shelley selected by Phoenix in WNBA draft

Shelley was taken with the 29th overall pick in the third round. 

Nebraska basketball’s Jaz Shelley was selected by the Phoenix Mercury during the WNBA draft on Monday night. Shelley was taken with the 29th overall pick in the third round.

She becomes the first Husker to go directly from Nebraska to the WNBA since Jordan Hooper in 2014. The Tulsa Shock selected Hooper as the No. 13 overall pick.

The native from Moe, Australia, averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists while helping the Cornhuskers to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Over her three-year Nebraska career, Shelley finished 16th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,364 points. She was one of three Australians taken in this year’s draft, and one of seven Big Ten Conference players selected.

Phoenix is coming off a 9-31 season in 2023 with a sixth-place finish in the Western Conference.

Former Husker target enters transfer portal

Will the Huskers make another run at the forward?

A former target of the Nebraska men’s basketball team has entered the transfer portal. Mike Sharavjamts averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for San Francisco last year.

Sharavjamts transfer to the Dons after starting his career at Dayton. He entered the portal last offseason as well and was a target for the Cornhuskers before the start of the 2023-24 season.

Sharavjamts is the first Mongolian citizen to earn a Division I athletic scholarship. He was a 4-star recruit who averaged 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 24 games for the International Sports Academy in Willoughby, Ohio.

While Nebraska maybe willing to target the forward once again, early reports have him returning to Dayton.

North Dakota State forward to transfer to Nebraska

The Huskers receive their first portal commitment this offseason.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team has received their first commitment via the transfer portal this offseason. North Dakota State forward has told On3 Sports that he has committed to Nebraska.

In his three-year career at NDSU, he’s appeared in 85 games, starting in 59 of them. Averaging 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game during that span.

Last season, he averaged 12.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-10 junior is a major portal addition as forward Rienk Mast has yet to announce if he will return to Lincoln for another season.

Morgan now adds depth to a team that currently has six open scholarship spots that need to be filled. Expect the Cornhuskers to remain active in the portal.

Omaha transfer lists Nebraska in final Four schools

The Huskers will see some stiff competition for the 6-foot-7 forward.

An Omaha transfer portal has named the Nebraska Cornhuskers among his final four schools. Frankie Fidler also named Creighton, Wisconsin, and Michigan State among the finalists.

The Bellevue, Nebraska native played for the Mavericks for three seasons, appearing in 93 games. This season, Fiddler started in 33 games and averaged 20.1 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

The Mavs finished the season with a 15-18 record, ending in the second round of the Summit League Tournament. On March 29, Fidler took an unofficial visit to the Huskers.

A closer look at Fred Hoiber’s season after being named coach of the year

Hoiberg becomes the second Husker head coach to win the prestigious award.

Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg was named the 2024 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year on Thursday. Hoiberg received the award after finishing the 2023-24 with a record 23-11 and a birth in the NCAA Tournament, the school’s first since 2014.

Rich Boyages is an Executive member of CollegeInsider.com and Former Big Ten VP of Men’s Basketball. In a statement to the press, he said that Hoibergs leadership made him a perfect candidate for the honor.

“Fred leads in a quiet, unassuming way, but make no mistake, he is a tremendous coach with a competitive fire burning inside. He’s seen and done it all, college and pro. He’s brought innovative spacing and ball movement to the Big Ten and combined it this season with a feisty defense. He’s a player’s coach and a class act.”

The Jim Phelan Award is named in honor of the legendary coach who spent his entire head coaching career at Mount Saint Mary’s University. Hoiberg is the second Husker head coach to win the award. Tim Miles was named the Jim Phelan Coach of the Year in 2014.

Fred Hoiberg named National Coach of the Year

Nebraska’s basketball coach wins a prestigious honor after a successful season.

Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg received a prestigious honor on Thursday afternoon. He was named the 2024 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year.

The Jim Phelan Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I coach. The coach of the year is determined by a ten-member committee consisting of current and former head coaches and two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.

Hoiberg received the award after guiding Nebraska to a 23-11 record and the program’s first birth in the NCAA Tournament in a decade. The team’s 23 wins were the most by a Nebraska team since the Huskers won a school-record 26 in the 1990-91 season.

He is the second head coach to win the honor. Tim Miles was named the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year in 2014.

This is the second year in a row that the Big Ten will have a coach win the honor. Last season, Northwestern’s Chris Collins was named the coach of the year.
