Jason Huntley announces he has signed his rookie contract with the Lions

Detroit Lions fifth-round pick, running back Jason Huntley, announced on social media that he has signed his rookie contract.

The Detroit Lions have apparently signed both their 2020 fifth-round draft picks in the same afternoon. Quintez Cephus agent posted he has signed his rookie contract earlier in the day, and now running back Jason Huntley announced on social media that he has also joined the party.

Like Cephus and D’Andre Swift signing this past weekend, the Detroit Lions have yet to confirm Huntley’s signing, but assuming the paperwork goes through, the Lions currently have seven of their nine drafted rookies under contract. The only remaining picks not signed would be first-round corner Jeff Okudah and seventh-round defensive lineman Jashon Cornell, both out of Ohio State.

Terms of the deal are not immediately available, but according to OverTheCap.com’s 2020 draft pick estimates, as the 172nd pick in the draft, Huntley’s contract would be for 4-years totaling roughly $3.58 million, with a cap hit this season of $682,578 and just under $300,000 in guaranteed money.

Alton Robinson newest Seahawk who must prove he’s overcome adversity

Alton Robinson, a Seahawks 2020 NFL draft pick, is getting another shot after nearly losing his college career due to a robbery charge.

Defensive end Alton Robinson’s college football career nearly ended before it even began. Just two weeks after he committed to Texas A&M he was charged with second-degree robbery over an alleged struggle with his girlfriend and the theft of her purse and cell phone.

His legal woes ultimately led to his scholarship at Texas A&M being rescinded and he eventually made his way to Syracuse University. All charges were later dropped, but Robinson was left with a tarnished reputation.

He now joins a fairly lengthy list of Seahawks players who have been given another shot despite questionable histories. Seattle selected Robinson in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft at No. 148 overall to aid with the pass rush.

Robinson was forthright when asked about the criminal allegations by the Seattle media during his post-draft Zoom conference.

“Basically, I was immature at the time,” Robinson explained. “Me and my girlfriend at the time, we were in a relationship that was very immature. The situation, I’m sure you can find it, it was very embarrassing. I embarrassed myself, and my high school, my family and everything like that. I definitely learned from it.

“I’m looking forward to being a Seahawk, and I can’t wait to get up to Seattle.”

Robinson has a clean slate in the Emerald City and everything in the world to prove to Pete Carroll, John Schneider and everyone else who has been willing to give him a second chance.

Instant analysis of the Lions selecting WR Quintez Cephus

Instant analysis of the Lion selecting wide receiver Quintez Cephus in the fifth round with pick NO. 166.

With the first of two fifth-round selections, the Lions selected WR Quintez Cephus with the 166th overall pick to assist the receiving corps.

Cephus was a three-year starter who lined up both inside and outside in a pro-style offense while at Wisconsin. He missed the entire 2018 season, expelled from school after he was arrested on multiple sexual assault charges — something that he was later acquitted for.

When he returned to school, he went on to lead the team in receiving yards with 901 while also recording seven touchdowns in the process this past season.

Cephus is a big-bodied receiver who has great length that allows him to have an expanded catch radius. He has the strength to break the first tackle and elusiveness to create yards after the catch with his excellent body control. With the Lions focus on the run, his physicality will allow him to block and make contested catches.

Cephus doesn’t process good long speed limiting his effectiveness and will mostly like land inside the majority of the time. His route running needs refinement, taking unnecessary steps, and at time rounding breaks. He was responsible for six drops last season, leading to some questions with his focus.

Cephus processes the right traits that could make him a successful receiver, but he needs refinement with his route running and focus. The speed will be a concern, but he does have the versatility to line up inside and out. Newly drafted Lion Jeff Okduah named him as the toughest receiver he has played against. The tools are there; it will just be a matter of putting it all together.

Redskins select C Keith Ismael with pick No. 156 in fifth round of NFL Draft

Using a pick that they added in the Trent Williams trade, Washington found a steal in the fifth round of the draft.

With the 156th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected C Keith Ismael, for San Diego State.

The Redskins weren’t originally supposed to have this pick, but they acquired the extra draft capital as part of the trade package that landed LT Trent Williams with the San Francisco 49ers. They will also have an extra third-round pick in 2021 as well.

The selection of Ismael is a bit confusing, as the Redskins don’t exactly have a need at the C position, with Roullier at the starting spot. But the pick was said to create depth on the offensive line.
