Former Texas WR signs contract, listed among top steals of NFL Draft

Former Texas wide receiver announced via Twitter on Thursday that he officially signed his rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former Texas wide receiver Collin Johnson announced via Twitter on Thursday that he’s officially signed his rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Johnson was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft at No. 165 overall. Although he dealt with nagging injuries throughout his last season in Austin, he was a four-year player who appeared in 45 games with 29 starts.

He’s sixth in school history with 188 receptions and compiled the fifth-most yards with 2,624. For a young quarterback like Gardner Minshew in  Jacksonville, Johnson will provide a can’t-miss target with a 6-foot-6 frame.

According to Luke Easterling of the Draft Wire, Johnson was the Jaguars biggest steal from the 2020 NFL Draft. Jacksonville has plenty of depth at the position currently, but for Johnson to be selected as late as the fifth round is a steal in itself.

He was widely projected in mock drafts to be drafted within the third and fourth rounds. Throughout his rookie year in the NFL, he’ll be competing for playing time among Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley, DJ Chark Jr. and Keelan Cole.

Similar to his tenure at Texas, Johnson is sure to catch your eye with acrobatic catches on a consistent basis.
