Ryan Day on College GameDay: ‘We can be a dangerous team in the playoffs’

Very dangerous! #GoBucks

The Buckeyes got an early holiday gift last night, in the form of a Utah win over USC in the Pac-12 Championship game. It was the crack in the proverbial door for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] to return to the College Football Playoff. (Side note, this was the happiest I have been in a long time seeing a team other than Ohio State get a victory).

Ohio State head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] joined ESPN’s College GameDay to discuss the loss to our rivals, along with the potential for what could happen when the CFP committee makes their final judgment tomorrow night. Day believes that “we can be a dangerous team in the playoffs” as he told Pat McAfee.

Another interesting tidbit from Day’s answer was about playing loose, mentioning that “moving forward we are going to play loose, we’re going to be aggressive, and we’re going to go at people. There can’t be moving forward, anybody in our program that presses at all, feels pressure. We’re just going to roll.”

Day was also asked by Desmond Howard how things changed so drastically from the team and program thinking the season was over after the demoralizing loss to its arch-rival, to now, the opportunity in front of them.

“When you go through a few days where you think that maybe your whole season’s gone, and all of a sudden you start to build hope and then you start to see the opportunity where everything’s right out in front of you, it’s almost like a second lease on life,” Day told GameDay. “So we’re very excited. There’s been a whole swing in the whole program here in the last 24 hours.

“The guys were sending text messages last night. Really, really excited. So certainly there’s been a big swing in just the whole program. And so there’s a lot of excitement right now. And you get an opportunity to go play in this thing. You’re two games away from a national championship after feeling like a few days ago like your whole season was over.”

Personally, I love this but wondering where it was last week. The pressure might have gotten to the Buckeyes, but the change of attitude can only help going forward.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Michigan vs. Ohio State

Who did Lee Corso rep before The Game?

Welcome to rivalry week, folks. Week 13 features some instrumental games that have huge postseason implications as a lot of divisional winners will be decided. Clemson, USC and LSU are hoping to improve their College Football Playoff chances, and TCU is looking to stay undefeated and keep that No. 4 (or better!) spot.

But the biggest game of the day is arguably No. 3 Michigan visiting No. 2 Ohio State in The Game. Can the Wolverines make it two in a row against their bitter rivals and cement their spot in the CFP? Can the Buckeyes keep Michigan out?

Ohio State was favored by more than a touchdown before the game, with the Over/Under set at 56 points.

ESPN’s College GameDay was in Columbus for the occasion, and Lee Corso sided with his good friend Brutus the Buckeye.

The panel — which featured Ohio State football alum A.J. Hawk as the guest picker — sided with the home team, except for Michigan alum Desmond Howard.

Lee Corso makes his pick between Ohio State and Michigan on College GameDay

Who did Lee Corso pick for The Game? #GoBucks

Lee Corso has been a college football staple for the past 25-plus years. Even though the lovable Corso is getting older, fans look forward to seeing the headgear pick each and every week.

College GameDay made the trip to Columbus for the biggest game of the year as No. 3 Michigan battles No. 2 Ohio State. This one has the makings of a throwback Big Ten slugfest. It should be a hard-fought matchup between two teams who are hungry to get back to Indianapolis to play for a conference title.

So who did Corso pick? Well, his first headgear pick ever was in favor of the Buckeyes as he threw on the Brutus head. And today was no different. Corso picks Ohio State to beat TTUN and claim their place back on top of the Big Ten.

The crowd is amped and ready to go. Time to see if Lee Corso’s prediction is right. Let’s go Bucks!

ESPN College GameDay crew picks winner between Oregon and Oregon State

ESPN College GameDay crew picks Oregon over Oregon State, barely. Lee Corso went Beavers. Herbstreit went Ducks.

The stakes have certainly been raised for the regular-season finale in Oregon.

In the 13th week of college football, the No. 9 Oregon Ducks go up to Corvallis to face the No. 22 Oregon State Beavers in what is one of the most storied rivalry games in all of college football.

Not only will things be intense because of the bitter hatred between two schools, but the Ducks will also have a chance to advance to the Pac-12 Championship Game with a win, keeping their Rose Bowl hopes alive.

Of course, with such a big matchup on tap, the ESPN College GameDay crew broke things down and make their picks for who is going to win this game.

Take a look at who they picked:

During ESPN’s College Gameday show, analyst Pat McAfee had a bold prediction for today’s game between Clemson and South Carolina.

Most of the GameDay crew said Clemson’s key to victory would be pressuring the quarterback early and often, noting Spencer Rattler’s struggles against good defenses. But McAfee, picking Clemson to win, highlighted his expectations for Shipley.

“I can’t wait to see Will Shipley and what he can do today,” McAfee said.
“He can run for 250 yards today potentially.”

While 250 yards is a massive number, it’s not out of the question. On the season, Shipley has averaged 5.6 yards per carry. He sits at 960 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season. But anyone who has watched him play this year will note that Shipley has oftentimes been one step away from taking it to the house. Clemson’s O-line has been one of the most consistent the team has had in several years.

One thing to note also is Clemson plays multiple backs, something McAfee may not have taken into account when making his prediction. Regardless, expect a big game from Shipley today.

ESPN College GameDay: Analysts make their picks for Clemson vs. South Carolina

ESPN College GameDay analysts favor Clemson in their rivalry week matchup with South Carolina.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are in Death Valley for rivalry week as Shane Beamer and South Carolina head to Clemson for their final regular season game of the 2022 season.

It is an important game for No.8 Clemson, 10-1 (8-0 ACC), as they are on the outside looking in of the College Football Playoffs. After the Gamecocks dismantled former No.5 Tennessee last week, making this rivalry week matchup much more important.

ESPN’s College GameDay crew doesn’t see an upset coming like it did last week with South Carolina. Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Kirk Herbstreit all picked Clemson to win this matchup.

It will be a big test for this Clemson team as they look to make a needed statement.

ESPN’s College GameDay headed to Columbus for Ohio State vs. Michigan

Which pregame show will you be going to if you are heading down to the stadium Saturday morning? #GoBucks #TheGame

We’re beginning to wonder if there’s anyone in the media NOT going to be in Columbus this coming Saturday when Ohio State hosts Michigan. “The Game” is set to kick off as Fox’s Big Noon Game of the Week with the Big Noon Kickoff crew in attendance and all that goes with that.

And now, in case you missed it, ESPN’s College GameDay, and all the hoopla that goes with the fan-favorite, long-running production will also be on the banks of the Olentangy competing for space and viewers.

There are going to be a lot of Ohio State and Michigan personalities too with the media members taking part. From Fox, you have former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and former Wolverine all-timer Charles Woodson, while College GameDay has Desmond Howard and his horrible takes on the set with former Buckeye quarterback Kirk Herbstreit.

There’s no word on who the celebrity guest picker will be yet for College GameDay, but let’s hope the show does much better than what we’ve seen so far this year.

LeBron anyone?

So, I guess if you are into these pregame shows, get down to the ‘Shoe, grab your signs and get ready to give some of those Michigan men on set a very warm welcome if you know what I mean.

Dan Lanning once again throws shade at ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew after win over Utah

Dan Lanning is a man who keeps his receipts.

It was only a couple of months ago that Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning professed his admiration for country music star Luke Combs, who was the only member of the ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew that correctly picked Oregon to beat BYU early in the season. The shows analysts sided with the Cougars.

Lanning made it known on social media after Oregon’s dominant win that he was aware of the lack of confidence the crew had in his team, and credited Combs for staying true.

[lawrence-related id=34302]

Lanning threw similar shade on Sunday morning after the Ducks’ impressive upset win over No. 10 Utah, 20-17, on Saturday night.

As you might have guessed, the GameDay crew picked unanimously in favor of the Utes.

With the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Bo Nix’s availability heading into this game, it’s not a shock that everyone picked against the Ducks, but Oregon was able to show a lot of heart and grit in their win on Saturday night.

Let them know they were wrong, Dan. You earned it.
