A look at Alabama’s potentially loaded backfield in 2022

My goodness, this would be a loaded backfield!

Last Wednesday on early signing day, Nick Saban and Alabama reeled in a pair of top-notched running backs in Emmanuel Henderson and Jamarion Miller.

Alabama wasn’t finished either. On Tuesday afternoon talented Georgia Tech running back transfer Jahmyr Gibbs announced that he was taking his talents to Tuscaloosa too.

Brian Robinson Jr. is the only back that we know for certain will not return to Alabama in 2022.

With that being said, the 2022 running back room for the Tide is flat-out loaded with talent.

Here is what the depth chart could potentially look like heading into next season.

SIGNED: 5-star RB Emmanuel Henderson signs with Alabama

5-star RB Emmanuel Henderson makes it official, he’s a member of the Crimson Tide!

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have landed their first five-star player of the day: Emmanuel Henderson from Hartford, Alabama.

Henderson stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. The in-state star running back wasn’t tempted to stay in Alabama for Auburn, nor were out-of-state options like Clemson, Georgia, Michigan or Notre Dame.

Though he’s officially joining Alabama today, Henderson has been committed to Alabama since March of 2021. His dedication to the program never wavered in his final years of high school.

Alabama’s top commits for the class of 2022

Let’s take a look at a few of Alabama’s top commits for the class of 2022.

With early signing day coming up tomorrow, I thought it was a good time to take a look at the current commitment lists and highlight some of the key additions Nick and Alabama will be making to its squad.

We will look at a handful of players from each side of the ball that I believe will be key contributors for the Tide down the road.

I also believe that all the players we will be looking at today are really solid to the Crimson Tide and will sign tomorrow.

Let’s roll!

Offensive players

  1. Ty Simpson, QB, 6’1″, 200, Martin, TN
  2. Emmanuel Henderson, RB, 6’1″, 185, Hatford, AL
  3. Kobe Prentice, WR, 5’10”, 175, Calera, AL

Defensive players

  1. Jeremiah Alexander, EDGE, 6’2″, 235, Alabaster, AL
  2. Shawn Murphy, LB, 6’3″, 211, Manasses, VA
  3. Jaheim Oatis, DL, 6’5″, 388, Columbia, MS

Now, I am clearly excited about the entire class of 2022, but these six players are really special and have a chance to make a significant impact in Tuscaloosa.

5-star 2022 RB Emmanuel Henderson commits to Alabama

Five-star 2022 running back Emmanuel Henderson committed to Alabama on Saturday afternoon.

Five-star 2022 running back Emmanuel Henderson is staying home.

The Geneva County (Ala.) star decided Saturday to play his college football close to home, committing to Alabama over Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and LSU, among others. Henderson joins quarterback Ty Simpson as Alabama’s second five-star commitment in as many weeks.

“It feels like home there,” Henderson said of Alabama, per 247Sports’ Hank South. “The facilities, the school, it’s wonderful there.”

Henderson, who rushed for nearly 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior, is the No. 2 running back and No. 28 recruit in the class of 2022 according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. His 247Sports scouting report reads:

Taller, longer-framed running back with lean, athletic build that should foster ample bulk addition in college. Three-sport high school athlete who plays basketball and runs track. Ran an 11.40 100 as a sophomore. Dominant in football and hoops vs. Alabama small-school competition. Longer-striding runner who shows good initial burst and downhill juice. Flashes dangerous cutback ability. Will stack cuts on the same run. Always looking for as many extra yards as possible. Impressively strings moves together at the second level considering longer, high-cut build. Simultaneously fluid and violent as a runner. Displays good core strength and contact balance to extend runs. Finishes runs consistently. Played snaps at running back, receiver, quarterback, and outside linebacker as a junior. Natural pass-catcher in limited opportunities. Adequate top-end speed but still room to improve. Potential in that category should be high given frame/gait. Gets bounce-happy at times, which is likely at least in part to individual dominance vs. small-school competition. One of the nation’s top backs in the 2022 class. Should become a high-major impact player with long-term NFL Draft early-round ceiling.

Alabama lands another 5-star commitment for 2022

Alabama landed another big-time commitment for its 2022 class in five-star running back Emmanuel Henderson.

Alabama has gotten off to a strong start with its 2022 recruiting class. After gaining a few impressive gets early, the Crimson Tide have really picked things up on the last few weeks.

First, it was five-star quarterback Ty Simpson choosing Alabama over Clemson, Tennessee and several others. Now, he will be joined by another five-star prospect in the Tide’s backfield, as 2022 running back Emmanuel Henderson committed on Saturday.

The in-state prospect out of Geneva County High School in Hartford, Alabama is rated as the No. 28 overall prospect, No. 2 running back and No. 2 player from the state, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He is commitment No. 5 for Alabama, who should see a sizable leap in the overall rankings soon. Stay tuned for more recruiting updates from Roll Tide Wire, part of the USA TODAY Sports College Wire network!
