Dylan Moses reveals that he played through torn meniscus last season

Former Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses revealed on Monday that he played most of the 2020 season with a torn meniscus.

Dylan Moses did not have his best season in 2020. After flirting with entering the draft following the 2019 season, he ultimately decided to return for his senior year to improve his draft stock.

Something wasn’t quite right, however, and his play suffered as a result. Well, we now know what that something might be.

According to the former Alabama inside linebacker, he played through most of the 2020 season with a torn meniscus that he suffered in the third game of the season. Michael Casagrande with AL.com — in addition to several others on social media — shared the revealing news.

At one point, people thought Moses would be a top-10 pick. Absolutely no one predicted that he could fall out of the first round, but it looks like that is a strong possibility.

In fact, the former five-star prospect might slide to Day 3, which would be a turn of events similar to fellow Alabama linebacker Mack Wilson. After being considered a potential first-round pick, Wilson fell to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round (No. 155) of the 2019 NFL draft.

Hopefully that won’t be the case for Moses. He’s obviously got plenty of talent. At 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, he possesses great length, speed and overall athleticism for the position. The coverage ability is there, as is instincts.

At this point, it’s all about Moses getting fully healthy — and confident. Something I’m sure he’s working diligently on as he prepares for next month’s draft.

Mock draft watch: Breaking down Draft Wire’s latest 3-round haul for the Lions

The basic premise here is a common one for Detroit in mock drafts: premium offensive weapon first, then rebuild the defense

The freshest set of three-round 2021 NFL draft projections is now out from our friends at Draft Wire. It’s the first deeper dive into the draft since the compensatory picks were announced earlier this week.

The context for the Lions and the No. 7 overall pick is critical in looking at mock drafts. Namely, who is already off the board? Here are the top six picks in Draft Wire’s projection:

QB Trevor Lawrence

QB Zach Wilson

WR Ja’Marr Chase

QB Trey Lance

OT Penei Sewell

TE Kyle Pitts

That leaves the Lions several options, including Ohio State QB Justin Fields and Heisman Trophy-winning WR DeVonta Smith from Alabama. But the projection shifts to Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to Detroit with that No. 7 pick.

The rest of the Lions selections:

No. 41 – EDGE Jayson Oweh, Penn State

No. 72 – CB Trill Williams, Syracuse

No. 88 – LB Dylan Moses, Alabama (from Rams trade)

The basic premise here is a common one for Detroit in mock drafts: premium offensive weapon first, then rebuild the defense. Waddle and Oweh as the top two picks provide significant upgrades in the speed and athleticism department at their positions.

LOOK: Dylan Moses will not return to Alabama, plans to enter 2021 NFL draft

Alabama star linebacker Dylan Moses has announced Via instagram that he will not be retruning to Alabama to continue his collegiate career.

Standout Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses has made it publicly known, via an Instagram post, that he won’t be returning to Alabama, but will instead be declaring for the 2021 NFL draft.

Moses has been a star player and an important leader for the Crimson Tide defense in his time with the program.

Originally a five-star recruit out of Louisiana, Moses has turned into a playmaker that demands the spotlight.

He was expected to enter the 2020 NFL draft, after missing the entire 2019 season due to a torn ACL before the season began. However, he shocked many when he decided to return.

Throughout his three active seasons with Alabama, Moses has tallied 192 tackles, six sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, four pass deflections and three forced fumbles.

Moses is expected to be drafted in one of the earlier rounds, but not a guaranteed first-round selection like his offensive counterparts that have declared.

In Moses’ Instagram post, he thanks his coaches and teammates, as well as a special thank you to coach Nick Saban.

15 NFL draft prospects to watch in Monday’s National Championship

The College Football National Championship is chock-full of high-level NFL Draft prospects, and these are a few you should know.

Whenever their favorite team’s NFL season concludes, there is nothing for a diehard fan do except turn their sights to the upcoming NFL Draft.

Alabama is set to face Ohio State in the National Championship on Monday night, in what is a must-watch matchup for experts and fans alike wanting to get one last glimpse at some of the top prospects in college football. It’s fair to suggest no collegiate game this season will feature as many future NFL players as the season finale will.

Many names might already be known, like Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields or Alabama’s Heisman winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith, but there are plenty of lesser-known prospects in the game that will undoubtedly have their number called by an NFL team in April.

Using The Draft Network’s 2021 Big Board, let’s take a look at the top 15 NFL Draft prospects to watch for from these two historic college programs.

National championship matchups: Ohio State tight ends versus Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses

We examine the key matchups for the Ohio State versus Alabama national championship game. The Buckeye tight ends vs. ‘Bama LB Dylan Moses.

One of the most refreshing and surprising things from the Sugar Bowl against Clemson was the use of Ohio State tight ends Jeremy Ruckert and Luke Farrell. This was obviously a matchup that Ryan Day liked and saw an opportunity to use. The same opportunity presents itself against, specifically with Alabama middle linebacker Dylan Moses.

Watching the Alabama vs. Florida game, Moses struggled against the Gators’ Kyle Pitts. Sure, Pitts is a fantastic tight end, but there were times when Moses was just simply out of position. There was a play on 3rd and 17, where Pitts ran a route inside and Moses not only got caught out of position but did not adjust once he realized it.

While Moses is fairly solid against the run most of the time, Ohio State can take advantage of using the tight ends to clear him out. Should Moses not continue in coverage there will opportunities behind him up the seams. Jeremy Ruckert is the faster of the two tight ends, but Luke Farrell is the better route runner and bigger player.

Moses does tend to make the wrong call on RPO plays and gets himself out of position. This all sets up for a key matchup for the Buckeyes. If Ryan Day can take advantage of this matchup, Alabama can and will get scored upon.

Ranking the Philadelphia Eagles 2021 NFL draft needs

The Philadelphia Eagles are headed towards a rebuild and they’ve reached a critical juncture with franchise quarterback Carson Wentz’s mega-extension kicking in and the organization unsure of his future.

The Eagles have pressing needs and with salary cap issues looming, the franchise will need to rebuild through the draft.

Howie Roseman has struggled as a talent evaluator and the Eagles struggles stem from the lack of star power that the general manager has failed to bring into the organization.

With the Eagles set to face the Seahawks on Monday night, here’s a ranking of Philadelphia’s 2021 NFL Draft needs.

Panthers 2021 NFL mock draft: The Double Alabama edition

Here is our first seven-round mock of the year.

If the NFL season were to end today, (hey, you never know in 2020) the Carolina Panthers would be picking at No. 10 in next year’s draft. There are a few easy games left on the schedule, so it’s unlikely they’ll still have a top-10 pick by the time the draft comes around.

It’s never too early to start thinking about the next crop of picks, though. Here is our first seven-round mock draft of the year.

7 Alabama players go first round in CBS Sports’ latest NFL mock draft

Seven alabama players are projected to be drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, according to CBS Sports’ latest mock draft.

Though Alabama hasn’t played a game in almost three weeks, and one of the Crimson Tide’s best players is sidlined for the rest of the season, NFL scouts are still on the look-out to see which players would best help their team.

The 2021 NFL draft is still months away, and plenty can still happen throughout the rest of the College Football season to reshape a player’s draft profile, but it’s always good to see which players are projected to go where as everything currently stands.

Nick Saban is no stranger to producing NFL-ready talent, it seems he’s just as good at building up players to a first-round draft value than he is at winning National Championships.

Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports released his latest 2021 NFL mock draft, which includes seven member of the 2020 Crimson Tide squad.

Here’s where they stand in his mock draft:

30. Kansas City Chiefs – Dylan Moses, LB

Moses returned from a missed 2019 season after suffering from a torn ACL. Wilson claims Moses is one of the “best defensive players in this class,” which would certainly help the 2019 Super Bowl Champions.
