Ohio State football coach linked to open Indiana head coaching job

Could the Buckeye loose a coach to the Hoosiers?

It is that time of the year: Rumors are flying about which coaches will go where. As with most top programs, an Ohio State football coach is being linked to an open head coaching job.

Indiana recently dismissed Tom Allen, paying his $20.8 million buyout, and is searching for a new program leader. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic put together a few names (subscription required) the Hoosiers might pursue, one of them being Ohio State offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

Feldman reports Frye has “strong ties to the school and to some key people there. The 40-year-old Indiana native played at IU and holds the school record for most consecutive starts for an O-lineman.”

USA TODAY SMG

Frye has been with the Buckeyes since 2022, reuniting with head coach Ryan Day after they spent time together at Temple and Boston College.

Ohio State football misses out on 5-star California offensive tackle

The Buckeyes will keep looking for another ‘24 OL # GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] was one of the final schools that 2024 California offensive tackle [autotag]Brandon Baker[/autotag] was considering up to his commitment, but opted to verbal elsewhere.

The 6-foot, 5-inch, 285-pound No. 1 ranked tackle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, selected Texas over the Buckeyes, Florida State, Oregon, and Nebraska.

Unfortunately, it is another line recruit loss, one that seems all too familiar in the most recent cycles. Offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] has helped recruit a solid group, but none of them have the pedigree that Baker would have brought to the room. The search for an elite offensive lineman continues.

Ohio State offers 2025 5-star Florida offensive tackle

The Buckeyes offer the monster offensive tackle

As explosive as [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s offense is, a lot of credit has to go to the offensive line.

The big guys up front allow the skill players to shine and the Buckeyes are looking to add some quality offensive tackles in the 2025 class. One of them, Florida’s [autotag]Solomon Thomas[/autotag], was offered a scholarship by offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

Thomas is one of the best players in the country, standing 6-foot, 5-inches and weighing 315-pounds. He’s ranked as the No. 5 best offensive tackle and 24th overall player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Thomas has seen his recruitment make a big turn this week, gaining multiple offers from Power 5 programs like Clemson, Penn State, Tennessee, and others.

At the current moment, Ohio State has just one commitment in the 2025 cycle, quarterback Tavien St. Clair.

Ohio State offers 2025 New York offensive tackle while on campus

Ohio State offers the big New Yorker #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football held a recruiting even on Friday evening and there were some fireworks at 2026 wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. made his verbal commitment.

Not to be overshadowed by the Buckeye BOOM! was head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive coordinator [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] offering 2025 New York offensive tackle [autotag]Rowan Byrne[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 6-inch, 295-pound tackle doesn’t have a ranking due to the early nature of his class, but he’s worthy of the offer. Ohio State has followed Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, and others in offering Byrne.

It most likely won’t be the last recruiting tidbit that we hear about this weekend with Aaron Scott’s pending announcement, but this is a significant offer and shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle.

At the current moment, Ohio State has two commitments in the 2025 class, quarterback Tavien St. Clair and cornerback Jontae Gilbert.

Update: Gilbert has since decommitted following this post.

California 5-star Ohio State offensive tackle target could visit another Big Ten school

This could get interesting #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is looking to finish its 2024 offensive line class with one target in particular, California offensive tackle [autotag]Brandon Baker[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 5-inch, 285-pound player took an official visit to Columbus in early June, and, after multiple visits, many thought Baker would make a summer commitment.

That will not be the case for the nation’s top-rated tackle, per the 247Sports composite. In a report by Greg Biggins of 247Sports, Baker could be taking more official visits, with one school on his mind, Nebraska. The five-star could visit Lincoln in mid-September for a game.

There is a silver lining, however. Biggins was told that “Ohio State was my favorite” by Baker and that he’s very close to Buckeye offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag]. Great news for the Buckeyes even if Baker does want to visit other schools.

Ohio State in top 10 for 2024 Georgia offensive tackle

The Buckeyes are still in the running! #GoBucks

Ohio State’s coaching staff is putting together another extremely impressive recruiting class in 2024, one that is currently offensive-driven.

Another one of those offensive targets is Georgia offensive tackle [autotag]Jameson Riggs.[/autotag] The 6-foot, 5-inch, 295-pound lineman is the 43rd-best tackle and 537th-best player overall on the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Riggs announced on Sunday that he had trimmed his list to 10 schools. Ohio State made the cut, and his list includes ACC, SEC, and Big Ten schools.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

A visit by Riggs to Columbus earlier in the month seems to have gone well for him, offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag], and head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag].

At the moment, Ohio State has twins Deontae and Devontae Armstrong as tackle commits and four offensive line commits. At least one and potentially two more will join the current group.

Nevada 2025 offensive tackle is offered by Ohio State

The Buckeyes go to a familiar high school for their latest offer #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] has recruited Bishop Gorman High School previously — Does [autotag]Tate Martell[/autotag] ring a bell?

They are now after another prospect from the Nevada powerhouse high school program in offensive tackle [autotag]Douglas Utu[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 5-inch, 270-pound lineman is one of the best in the country, the No. 6 tackle and 57th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Utu brings plenty of versatility to his game, not only does he have the ability to play either tackle, he could slide inside to guard if needed. The Buckeyes have recently had a lot of success with a player like that with Paris Johnson Jr., and Utu could be next as he was offered a scholarship after a conversation with offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

It’s never easy for schools in the Midwest to go out west and successfully recruit a player, but if there is one school that can do it, it’s Ohio State. The Buckeyes hopefully can get Utu to visit in the near future.

Is Ohio State going after an offensive tackle who recently entered the portal?

An intriguing player for Ohio State to potentially grab from the portal #GoBucks

One of the biggest questions marks surrounding the 2023 [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football team is at offensive tackle after Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones left early for the NFL.

There are plenty of in-house options in [autotag]Zen Michalski[/autotag], [autotag]Tegra Tshabola[/autotag], and [autotag]Josh Fryar[/autotag]. What’s missing from this group is experience and that is something that is extremely important in the position.

Texas A&M freshman [autotag]Matthew Wykoff [/autotag] recently entered the transfer portal and the question is will the Buckeyes pursue him?

Wykoff is coming off a freshman All-SEC campaign but at center where the need isn’t as large. The Texas native does have tackle size at 6-foot, 6-inches, and 330 pounds and was viewed as one during his recruitment.

Wykoff is an interesting option at the moment as the second window for transfers to sign opens this weekend, the 15, and will be open until the end of the month. Other true tackles most likely will enter the portal as well so it’s a wait-and-see if [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] will offer a scholarship.

Double BOOM! Twin Ohio offensive lineman commit to Ohio State

A twin BOOM with your morning coffee #GoBucks

Fresh off visits to Columbus, Devontae and Deontae Armstrong again received a feel for what it would be like to continue their playing careers at [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag].

It didn’t take them long to make a decision about what was next. The short weekend trip confirmed their feelings and on Monday morning the twins announced their commitments to head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag].

Deontae is rated as the No. 25 offensive tackle in the country and the 313th overall player by the 247Sports composite. Devontae is ranked as an interior lineman, ranking as 23rd-best in the country, and 353rd overall player.

Deontae announced the decision first, but his brother followed shortly afterward.

The twins join a 2024 class that has grown to six, including four offensive linemen. ([autotag]Ian Moore[/autotag] and [autotag]Marc Nave[/autotag]) are the other offensive linemen.

Elite offensive lineman has Ohio State in his top group

The Buckeyes move on #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offensive line coach, [autotag]Justin Frye,[/autotag] is going to have three of his starters from this past season get drafted into the NFL next month. He has a major selling point for recruits; play in Columbus and most likely you are going to the next level.

It has resonated with Washington, D.C. offensive lineman [autotag]Jordan Seaton[/autotag], who recently released his top 14 list and the Buckeyes were one of the teams who he will continue to consider as an option in his recruitment.

Although Seaton is an interior offensive lineman, he is rated as the best one in the nation and No. 41 overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

There is even more good news regarding Ohio State and Seaton. Even though there is just one crystal ball prediction (for the good guys), it’s from 247Sports national recruiting director Steve Wiltfong. He’s regarded as one of the best around and he’s usually not wrong with those picks.
