247Sports names this Ohio State football player as a transfer candidate

Is it too early to this this could be the case? #GoBucks

The college football season is just over halfway through, and there is already talk about which [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] players could be on the move.

I’m guilty of this thinking as well. I postulated that running back [autotag]Dallan Hayden[/autotag] could potentially move on, due to the staff’s unwillingness to use him when he’s clearly one of the better backs on the roster.

[autotag]Clint Brewster[/autotag] of 247Sports looked around the country at which quarterbacks could be on the move and he named Buckeye backup [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] as a potential transfer. The rationale is simple. Brewster explains that “after giving it his best shot, Brown is likely to hit the transfer portal and look elsewhere for greener pastures and a featured role.”

If this does come to fruition, Ohio State’s quarterback room isn’t barren. The Buckeyes will have Lincoln Kienholz in his second season and true freshman Air Noland. You’d have to expect a depth transfer similar to what we saw this offseason with the addition of [autotag]Tristan Gebbia[/autotag].

Are the Ohio State short-yardage quarterback plays still an option after Devon Brown’s injury?

This would be interesting #GoBucks

Over the last few weeks, the [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] coaches saw a way to get backup quarterback [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] onto the field in short-yardage situations.

The results have been a mixed bag: 10 carries for 25 yards and a score but also a fumble into the end zone. Last week against Penn State, Brown rolled his ankle, had to be carted off the field and will miss multiple weeks as he heals.

You probably would have thought the Buckeyes short-yardage quarterback package wasn’t an option in Brown’s absence. However, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] mentioned during his time with the media that true freshman [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag] could take over those duties.

This is an intriguing option, as Kienholz is an elite athlete, more so than Brown. He has four games to play without burning the planned redshirt, so using him in the right situations is paramount.

You have to believe that Day is setting up a pass at some point with this package, but we have yet to see it. Maybe he’s holding onto this for their final regular season game.

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Ohio State football’s win over Purdue

What still sticks out in your head Buckeye fans? #GoBucks

It wasn’t the biggest win in [autotag]Ohio State footbal[/autotag]l history, but it’s win on the road against Purdue did carry some significance.

It somewhat exorcized some West Lafayette demons, kept the Buckeyes undefeated and was a great tune up ahead of their tilt at home against Penn State. Both major pregame shows will be in attendance, so you know it’s a big game.

We wait six days every week for Buckeye football to return on Saturday during the season, so there is always plenty of time to think about what transpired the previous game. Here are my day after thoughts following Ohio State football’s impressive road 41-7 win against Purdue.

Ohio State football vs Purdue: Five observations halftime review

Ohio State football vs Purdue: Five observations halftime review #GoBucks

We are at halftime of what looks to be a fairly dominant Ohio State football victory over the Purdue Boilermakers. Ohio State is currently leading Purdue, 20-0 going into halftime, and is already winning against the spread as well.

It is hard to nitpick what looks like a potential perfect game, because both Ohio State’s offense and defense have been lights out. It should be noted that the Boilermakers have shown a propensity to shoot themselves in the foot as well.

Despite the abundance of injuries to the Buckeyes, this may be the best performance we have seen from this offense this season. The following are five observations from the first half.

Social media reacts to Devin Brown touchdown

Social media reacts to a Devin Brown touchdown run extending the Buckeyes lead to 13-0 in the first quarter.

A 14-yard touchdown third down strike to Marvin Harrison Jr. put Ohio State on the board, and a Devin Brown 2-yard touchdown run extended the lead to 13-0 in the first quarter.

The Buckeyes have been prone to slow starts on offense this season. With Emeka Egbuka, Treveyon Henderson, and Miyan Williams out there was concern they’d have trouble finding rhythm out the gate once again.

To the pleasure of Buckeye fans, the offense has come out strongly, scoring on its first two drives. How did X react to the Brown touchdown?

It’s official, Ryan Day names Kyle McCord QB1 for Ohio State football

QB1 for the Buckeyes has been named #GoBucks

After two weeks of wondering what [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] would do with his quarterbacks, the Buckeye boss announced his decision on Tuesday.

[autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag] will be the starter going forward with [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] in line for playing time. This is the best decision for the team and Day knows it, especially with its biggest game to date on the horizon: Notre Dame.

The Pennsylvania native was great against Youngstown State, completing 14- of-20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Brown played well against YSU, but was clearly behind McCord in his progression. The team can now focus on an offense that suits McCord’s skill set.

You could see the differences in what was trying to be accomplished when each was given playing time: McCord had more traditional drop back play calls; Brown ran zone read and straight quarterback runs.

Having Brown as a change of pace is a good idea, but you can’t just have him go out there and run the ball every time. I’d like to see a red zone package for him, with some trick plays mixed in.

McCord being named the unquestioned starter will hopefully settle the offense that has been a bit stagnant this season, compared to the last few.

Who earned Buckeye leaves in Ohio State football’s win over Youngstown State

Who earned their helmet decals for Ohio State? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], in my eyes, has the most recognizable helmets in college football, and it has a lot to due with the Buckeye leaf decals that are added on throughout the season.

The Buckeye players have to earn their leaves, and it’s not just about who dominates the game. Some of them are given for team achievements, while some of them are individual. Some are for effort throughout the week of practice, potentially working on the scout team.

For our sake, this is all individual, as I have selected which Buckeyes earned their helmet decals during Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State.

Social media reacts to Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson’s touchdown

Ohio State extends their lead on a Henderson score and social media reacts #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team had started slowly against visiting Youngstown State, but all it needed was a spark.

The Buckeyes might have found that as quarterback [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] got his first crack at leading the Buckeye offense. It was a longer drive, one that spanned 13 plays, but it led to points.

It seemed running back [autotag]TreVeyon Henderson[/autotag] scored, but the play was called back due to a penalty on the Ohio State offensive line. That set up a third-and-25 and Brown couldn’t find anyone open as he scrambled to his left.

A late hit on the Buckeye quarterback extended the drive, and the next play Henderson scampered for 13-yards and a Buckeye touchdown, extending the lead to 21-7. Check out below the best social media reactions to Ohio State taking a two-score lead.

Questions Ohio State football needs to answer against Youngstown State

What questions do you have entering this weekend for the Buckeyes? #GoBucks

The season now steps into week two for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], and there are still plenty of questions surrounding this team.

Some of those have been answered — at least after one week of observation, like the defense being much more sound, but there are plenty that still need to be answered by the Buckeyes. I’m sure your questions are a bit different than mine, but feel free to @ me on social if you see one come up that interests you.

Here are a few of those questions that I would love to see Ohio State football answer in their home opener against the Fighting Jim Tressels, I mean, Youngstown State.

The day after: Last thoughts on Ohio State football’s win against Indiana

What are you still thinking about after yesterday’s Ohio State win? #GoBucks

It wasn’t [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] best performance, but returning to Columbus with a 23-3 win over Indiana is better than the alternative.

There was plenty of good and bad for the Buckeyes, and now that we have had a chance to digest what happened in Bloomington, Indiana, I still had plenty of thoughts running my mind.

The majority of those thoughts revolve around the offense, and rightfully so, for one that has averaged over 40 points per game the last few years. Find out below what has continued to stick out in my mind about Ohio State’s win over Indiana to start the season.
