Ohio State social media reacts to Buckeyes win over Youngstown State

Check out some of the best social media reactions to Ohio State’s ho-hum win over Youngstown State. #GoBucks

It’s another game in the books for the 2023 version of YOUR Ohio State football team, and it was another victorious one. The Buckeyes pulled away from the Youngstown State Penguins, 35-7.

It was a little bit of a ho-hum feeling afterward. There were signs of an OSU offense waking up, but we also saw plenty of moments that need to be addressed. At the end of the day, the best thing about being 2-0 is you get a chance to be 3-0. That’s really where the program stands heading into a matchup with Western Kentucky next Saturday.

Social media had reactions pouring in during and after what we all witnessed inside Ohio Stadium on a glorious scarlet and gray Saturday, and we’ve scoured the free app known as X (formerly Twitter) for some of the best of them.

Off we go …

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day talks Youngstown State

Listen to Day’s postgame comments after the win over Youngstown State. #GoBucks

It probably wasn’t the offensive explosion Ohio State football fans and coaches desired against Youngstown State, but a 35-7 win isn’t the worst thing in the world. There were some signs of life from the offense, and the defense was pretty solid yet again for the first home game of the season.

Buckeye head coach Ryan Day met with the media as he does after every OSU football game to discuss what he thought of the game, and he had plenty to say.

In case you missed any of his comments, we have Day’s remarks in their entirety that we’ve also catalogued on our YouTube channel. Watch and listen to Day discuss the play of Kyle McCord, the performance of the defense, how this team is building towards something, and more.

Ohio State will now prepare to take host Western Kentucky next Saturday. We’ll be here for all the coverage you need.

The Ohio State football team hosted the Youngstown State Penguins for its first home game of the 2023 season, and it was a victorious one. It was a bit of a mixed bag that saw some very good moments, but also some situations that say this team is still a work in progress.

Still, a win is something to build upon, something the Buckeyes will be looking to do as they prepare for the matchup on the road with Notre Dame in a couple of weeks.

We have some of the best photos of all the action for the first time in the ‘Shoe on Saturday and we’re sharing some of those with you as scarlet and gray eye candy for Buckeye Nation.

Here are some of the best high-resolution pictures from Ohio State football’s win over Youngstown State on this Buckeye Saturday.

Ohio State gets 35-7 victory over Youngstown State

The best part about 2-0 … #GoBucks

Ohio State had its first home game of the new season today, matching up against a fellow in-state team, the Youngstown State Penguins. The Buckeyes had an up and down performance much like last week against Indiana but ultimately coasted to a win.

The Buckeyes got their superstar receivers involved early and often after struggling to get the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka last week. Both had stellar performances this week.

Harrison Jr. had 160 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yarder for the opening score of the game. Egbuka caught five passes for 94 yards with his biggest catch being a 28-yard touchdown on fourth down to stretch the lead to 28-7 at the end of the first half.

The biggest storyline of the game was the play of quarterback Kyle McCord. He likely solidified himself as QB1 moving forward. He looked comfortable, confident, and in control running the offense, throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 14-of-20 passes.

Devin Brown also played three series and did some good things, leading two touchdown drives. Perhaps the Buckeyes can find a role for Brown moving forward this season, but for now it appears they made the right decision to start McCord.

After a fantastic performance holding Indiana to just three points last week, the Ohio State defense played well again today. The unit allowed a touchdown on Youngstown State’s opening drive, but then adjusted very well holding the Penguins scoreless the rest of the game.

Next Saturday Ohio State is back in action and will host Western Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET.

Who earned Buckeye leaves in Ohio State football’s win over Youngstown State

Who earned their helmet decals for Ohio State? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], in my eyes, has the most recognizable helmets in college football, and it has a lot to due with the Buckeye leaf decals that are added on throughout the season.

The Buckeye players have to earn their leaves, and it’s not just about who dominates the game. Some of them are given for team achievements, while some of them are individual. Some are for effort throughout the week of practice, potentially working on the scout team.

For our sake, this is all individual, as I have selected which Buckeyes earned their helmet decals during Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State.

5 stars: The best and worst of Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State

Who did well and who didn’t for the Buckeyes against Youngstown State? #GoBucks

Even though Ohio State football has started their season 2-0, it very much seems like the 35-7 win over Youngstown State was culmination of an underwhelming beginning.

Yes, a win is a win, and the Buckeyes will have a chance to get to 3-0 next week, but, sometimes those wins don’t always feel the same. This one felt like Ohio State should have won by more than the final margin, especially considering YSU’s level of talent compared to the home teams.

However, there were some very good performances, 5 stars, and some not so good, 1 star, in today’s win. Find out below who earn what distinction for Ohio State today.

Five things we learned after Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State

Marvin Harrison, Jr., Devin McCord, the defense, and more in five things we think we learned after the Ohio State victory over Youngstown State. #GoBucks

Well, that was more like it. Not that beating an FCS opponent at home is anything to hoist up the flagpole, but you sure hoped to see improvement from the offense over what we saw vs. Indiana in Week 1. And for the most part, yeah, we saw that with the Buckeyes running away with a 35-7 victory over Youngstown State.

The passing game didn’t smoke and sputter as much as last week, the offensive line played better, and as a result, the OSU offense put up more yards and points in a game in which it executed much better. Still though, there were still some areas of concern — especially in the second half — and nobody is going to act like this thing isn’t still a work in progress.

We like to reflect upon what we saw after each Ohio State football game and we’re doing the same after this one. Here are five things we think we learned after the Buckeyes win over the Penguins.

Ohio State football vs Youngstown State: Five observations halftime review

Ohio State football vs Youngstown State: Five observations at halftime. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is looking much better against the Youngstown State Penguins, going into halftime with a 28-7 lead. Now, I understand the Buckeyes had a much slower start than anticipated, but I think there have been more positive takeaways than negative despite the fact that they are playing an FCS opponent.

I don’t want to spoil the list too much, but some of the issues from last week have seemingly disappeared and that should make Ohio State fans happy. Now, some of the same old issues have shown their face, but it is so hard to gauge what is planned considering that the coaching staff was aware of the huge talent discrepancy. Now let’s dive into the five most noticeable things from the first half.

Social media reacts to Ohio State’s slow start against Youngstown State

Not the best start for the Buckeyes #GoBucks

Although [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] struck first on a career long touchdown reception from [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag], it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in Columbus.

The visiting [autotag]Youngstown State Penguins[/autotag] answered the Buckeyes first score with one of their own, tying the game at seven early in the first quarter. It’s a bit surprising, especially considering the talent gap between the two teams.

This isn’t how the Buckeyes wanted to start their day as they don’t really lose to in-state opponents. Plenty of people went to social media to express their frustrations about Ohio State’s home opening play and here are some of the best reactions below.

Ohio State vs. Youngstown State Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Our writers pick the outcome of the Youngstown State matchup. #GoBucks

After a week where Ohio State looked like a work in progress in a victory over Big Ten foe Indiana on the road, the Buckeyes now head home to Columbus to open up the home campaign against FCS opponent, Youngstown State.

The “Jim Tressel Bowl” isn’t expected to be much of a game, and hopefully Ohio State can work on some things on offense to move the needle in the right direction. After all, things need to amp up towards what’s coming in two weeks against Notre Dame in South Bend.

Before every OSU football matchup, we like to ask our writers what they think the outcome will be, and so here we are in what’s supposed to be a sort of a ho-hum matchup. Here is how our Buckeyes Wire writers each see this one playing out complete with a score prediction.
