Watch: D’Andre Swift scores impressive TD after falling down

Swift has 25 touches for 262 yards and two touchdowns to start the season

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back D’Andre Swift scored an incredible touchdown to help the Detroit Lions get their first win of the 2022 NFL season.

D’Andre Swift has made the most of his opportunities this season. Swift has 25 total touches for 262 yards and two touchdowns. He is averaging 10 yards per carry through the first two games of the year.

Swift juked out about three Washington defenders after falling down on third down and then found his way into the end zone.

Swift’s dead leg juke is one of the best moves in the NFL. He’s used that move to trick defenders for a long time.

The Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Commanders 36-27. Detroit is now 1-1 on the season and looks much more competitive this year.

The latest big play came from former Badger and current Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who made an outstanding touchdown grab at the Lions’ practice on Tuesday afternoon. Cephus was able to snag the bullet pass with an impressive one-handed catch over the top of safety Kerby Joseph.

The former Wisconsin receiver only appeared in five games for the Lions last year before suffering a broken collarbone, but he still made a huge impact with over 204 receiving yards and two touchdowns from only 15 receptions.

Quintez Cephus sets career marks on Monday Night Football

Despite the Green Bay Packers ultimately pulling out a 35-17 victory over the Detroit Lions, it was a successful Monday Night Football return to Wisconsin for former Badger WR Quintez Cephus.

Cephus opened the night by taking over on the first drive, grabbing a touchdown and setting up Detroit with a catch and run into Green Bay territory.

It was a career evening for the Georgia native, who finished with 4 catches for 63 yards and the opening score. The four catches are a career-best for Cephus and 63 yards ties his career mark.

He was also close to coming up with possibly the greatest one-handed catch since Odell Beckham Jr. reeled in his signature grab.

Twitter reacts to Matt Stafford news

Twitter reacts as former Georgia football QB Matt Stafford has been traded from the Lions to the Rams for Jared Goff and picks.

On Saturday, news broke that former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford had been traded from the Detroit Lions to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff.

Adam Schefter was the first to report the news, and added that the Lions will receive a third-round pick in 2021, a first-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023.

The deal, however, cannot be made official until the start of the new league year on March 17.

Twitter went wild for the news of the two No. 1 picks being swapped.

The Detroit Lions are trading starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff, two future first-round picks, and a third-round pick. Matthew Stafford, a former No. 1 overall pick out of the University of Georgia, requested a trade from the organization this offseason and was receiving significant interest on the market.

The Los Angeles Rams and head coach Sean McVay quickly acted and now they have a new franchise quarterback. Jared Goff, another former No. 1 overall pick, is presumed to be the starter in Detroit.

Matthew Stafford joins a Rams team who had the top defense in the league last season. Los Angeles finished the season 10-6, but was reliant on their elite defense. The Rams struggled at times offensively, especially when compared to previous years.

Jared Goff and the Rams lost in the Division Round of the postseason to the Green Bay Packers. That defeat ending up being Goff’s final game with Los Angeles.

Now, Goff will join former Rams executive Brad Holmes in Detroit. Holmes in now the Lions’ general manager and is looking to rebuild following a 5-11 season. Goff has decent weapons in Detroit like D’Andre Swift, T.J. Hockenson, but new head coach Dan Campbell is looking to re-sign Lions No. 1 wide receiver Kenny Golladay.

Best potential Matthew Stafford trade destinations

What are the best trade destinations for Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford? New England Patriots? San Francisco 49ers? Indianapolis Colts?

The Detroit Lions are looking to trade former No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford. Before coming to Detroit, Stafford played quarterback for three seasons at the University of Georgia.

Now, Stafford is looking for a new home. The problem is he carries a $33M cap hit for the 2021 season, so teams must have a large amount of cap space to trade for him.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are already seeing a fair amount of interest in Matthew Stafford.

Here are the best trade destinations for Matthew Stafford among the most likely contenders:

Georgia football play of the day

Watch the Georgia football play of the day here!

It’s Wednesday, July 22 and today’s play of the day comes from Georgia at South Carolina in 2018.

Only the second game of the 2018 season, No. 24 South Carolina had just entered the AP Poll’s top 25 and Georgia was ranked No. 3 after ITSnational title run in 2017.

UGA had a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter when Georgia star running back D’Andre Swift took a shotgun hand off up the left side of the South Carolina defense for a score.

Blocking was nearly perfect on this one!

Pro Football Focus recently released a compilation of Detroit Lion, former Georgia star running back D’Andre Swift’s five highest-graded plays as a Georgia Bulldog.

Watch them here:

In his time in Athens, the Philadelphia native ran 440 times for 2,885 yards and 20 touchdowns, while adding 73 receptions for 666 yards with five touchdowns – good enough to place Swift at No. 7 on Georgia’s leading rusher list.

Analyst thinks Matt Stafford can be 2020’s NFL passing leader

Can Georgia football great Matthew Stafford, now with the Detroit Lions, lead the NFL in passing yards in 2020? One NFL analyst thinks so.

NFL.com contributing columnist Adam Schein released nine ‘bold predictions’ for the 2020 NFL season and is high on Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Schein used one of his predictions to state that Stafford will lead the NFL in passing yards this year.

He writes:

“It’s Year 2 in Darrell Bevell’s offense, an attack that suited Stafford quite well last fall. Detroit has a fine trio of receivers in Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola, and I think T.J. Hockenson can enjoy a breakout sophomore campaign with better health. Rookie RB D’Andre Swift was a steal in Round 2, and he’s a legit weapon in the passing game. Detroit still has issues on defense, meaning Stafford is going to be called upon to throw the ball a lot.”

It’s not too crazy to think that Stafford can do this. He’s never done it before, but he’s consistently right near the top of NFL passing leaders and already ranks 18th all-time in career passing yards.

Stafford played in eight games last year before missing the second half of the season with a back injury. But before he got injured, he was playing at an MVP caliber level. He had thrown for 2,500 yards through eight games, meaning he was on pace for a 5,000 yard season. If he kept up that pace he would have competed with Jamies Winston for the 2019 passing title. Winston finished first with 5,109 yards.

Stafford will have plenty of weapons around him in 2020, but thanks to what’s likely going to be yet another weak defense, the Lions should find themselves playing from behind quite often. That just means more yards for Stafford.
