Where Notre Dame ranks among top 25 winningest Power Five programs since 2012

The eyes of Texas aren’t upon this.

Notre Dame may not have won a national championship in football since 1988 but the Fighting Irish haven’t had a run of success like they’re on in quite some time.  Brian Kelly got ridiculed for many things during his time in South Bend but you can’t argue that he put Notre Dame back on the map compared to where it was when he inherited the dwindling program in December of 2009.

So how does Notre Dame’s last 10 years rank compared to the others in college football?  Despite the disaster that was the end to the 2014 season (1-5 finish after 6-0 start) and a 4-8 showing in 2016, the Irish still rank among the top ten Power Five teams in terms of winning percentage since 2012, research that Clint Buckley of 247Sports recently did.

Here are the top 25 winningest Power Five programs since 2012:

Notre Dame sneaks into Joel Klatt’s way-too-early 2022 top-10

Too high, too low, or just right for the Fighting Irish in 2022?

Much-respected college football analyst Joel Klatt of Fox Sports was among the first of what promises to be a slew of people to release their “way-too-early” rankings for 2022.

Klatt ranked who he thinks will be the nation’s top-10 teams for 2022 before Monday night’s national championship game and although it really means nothing, Notre Dame fans will still likely be happy to know the Irish made the list.

Also worth noting is that Notre Dame, who sometimes gets knocked for their schedule, had two 2022 opponents ranked ahead of them.

Here is Klatt’s full top-10 rankings:

What is the perfect number of teams for the College Football Playoff?

We may still be years away from the College Football Playoff adding teams but that didn’t stop analyst Joel Klatt from reworking what this year’s CFP could have looked like.

Klatt took to Twitter to offer his idea of how to come up with a 12-team playoff that makes the most sense.  Below are the details to his plan that we’ll comment on along the way as well as his top 12 rankings.

Baylor upset does Notre Dame huge favor!

Nobody in the nation was bigger Baylor fans today than Notre Dame and the Irish are happy with the result!

Baylor won the Big 12 championship with a thrilling 21-16 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears walk out of AT&T Stadium with the conference championship trophy but the biggest winner from the result is none other than Notre Dame.

The Irish, who entered championship weekend without a game to play and a lot of watching and rooting to do now have a more clear path to the College Football Playoff.

The loss eliminates Oklahoma State from playoff contention and theoretically moves Notre Dame up to fifth.  Now Notre Dame shifts their focus to the SEC Championship where they’ll be huge Georgia fans this afternoon, hoping for the Dawgs to hand Alabama a second loss and bump the Tide from the top-four.

Stay tuned!

ESPN FPI being kind to Notre Dame?

Is Notre Dame essentially a coin toss to make the dance at this point?

We’ve followed just about every poll, rankings system, and college football analyst who decides to put together rankings this season and one we kept finding to be quite compelling was ESPN’s Football Power Index.  It was mind-boggling at times but also very compelling, however it was rarely favorable to Notre Dame.

That may be until this moment.

The majority of the nation had seemingly written off Notre Dame’s chances at a College Football Playoff berth months ago, yet at 11-1 and their regular season already a wrap, their odds haven’t been viewed as overly great.

FPI tells a slightly different story however as they relatively like Notre Dame’s odds at crashing the playoff party.  There are seven teams who FPI says has a chance at a playoff spot so who are they and what are their chances?

Joel Klatt releases his new college football top-10 rankings

What is your latest top ten after a wild rivalry weekend in college football?

It was another week of college football and another week of craziness as Michigan finally got over the hump that is Ohio State, Alabama survived an incredible scare at Auburn, and Oklahoma State came back to beat Oklahoma and advance to the Big 12 Championship.

Where does Notre Dame check-in compared to that Oklahoma State team?  That answer will hold such a key in deciding the final College Football Playoff team.

Here is Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt’s brand new top-10 rankings:

College Football Playoff Rankings Projection

After Oregon was blasted at Utah, how will the latest CFP rankings look this week?

The 12th week of college football was a week of extremes.  Two top 10 teams fell but neither were favored and one lost to a higher ranked team, so upsets isn’t the right word but a shakeup is certainly coming to the College Football Playoff rankings when they’re released Tuesday night.

After Ohio State blew out Michigan State, Utah routed Oregon, and a surprisingly exciting game between No. 2 Alabama and No. 24 Arkansas, how will the new CFP rankings look?

Here is our best guess as to what the fourth set of rankings will look like:

Notre Dame’s updated path to the College Football Playoff

It might not be likely but you’re at least able to see a path now.

Oh, and Go @thebadgerswire! Huge Wisconsin fans here.

Notre Dame got through the their road test at Virginia without issue as they steamrolled the shorthanded Cavaliers, 28-3.  It wasn’t the prettiest of showings but it worked as the Fighting Irish defense but on a display against freshman quarterback Jay Woolfolk.

Now Notre Dame will sit and wait to see where they check-in with the latest set of College Football rankings as the new ones will be released on Tuesday night.

As long as they don’t fall though (and why would they?) the Irish should be in as good of shape as they could possibly ask for at this point.

College Football Playoff Rankings Projection: Week 12

What will be the biggest changes in the College Football Playoff rankings this week?

Week 11 of college football has come and gone and in its tide it took away an unbeaten Oklahoma team as they fell hard at Baylor.  Also with it went No. 11 Texas A&M who fell in their first true road game of the year at Ole Miss while top-20s NC State, Auburn, and Purdue all fell as well.  (See it – how the CFP Top 25 fared this weekend)

So what will the third round of the College Football Playoff rankings look like when they’re revealed on Tuesday night?

Here is my best guess as we count down from 25-1:

Kirk Herbstreit’s rankings place new team in his top-six

Should Notre Dame start getting consideration as a top-six team?

Week 11 of college football saw just one College Football Playoff contender get hit with a loss as previously unbeaten Oklahoma went down at Baylor, but Kirk Herbstreit’s new top-six rankings had some significant changes.

Herbstreit, who announced the Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M game on Saturday night, tweeted out his new top-six rankings on Sunday morning and they go as follows:
