Report: Notre Dame still seen as front-runner for top transfer quarterback

If/when he announces – how high do ND’s expectations in 2023 become?

If you’re a Notre Dame fan and are unfamiliar with the name Sam Hartman, we’ll give you a final chance to become aware before the expected news breaks that he’s coming to South Bend.

According to a report from Pete Thamel of ESPN, Hartman still favors Notre Dame and an announcement is expected by the end of the week.

So who is Hartman? The veteran quarterback is an ACC-record holder who spent the last five seasons at Wake Forest. Just how highly regarded is he?

“I think Sam Hartman if he ends up at Notre Dame (is 2023’s top impact transfer),” ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said on Monday’s episode of “College GameDay.”

Hartman concluded his time at Wake Forest with a stellar performance in a win against Missouri in the Gasparilla Bowl just before Christmas. He threw his 108th career touchdown pass, the most by an ACC quarterback.

As Thamel said, the news is still expected to be good for Notre Dame and could come by the end of the week. Assuming it does, prepare for the expectations for Marcus Freeman’s second season to go skyward.

Notre Dame sneaks into Joel Klatt’s way-too-early 2022 top-10

Too high, too low, or just right for the Fighting Irish in 2022?

Much-respected college football analyst Joel Klatt of Fox Sports was among the first of what promises to be a slew of people to release their “way-too-early” rankings for 2022.

Klatt ranked who he thinks will be the nation’s top-10 teams for 2022 before Monday night’s national championship game and although it really means nothing, Notre Dame fans will still likely be happy to know the Irish made the list.

Also worth noting is that Notre Dame, who sometimes gets knocked for their schedule, had two 2022 opponents ranked ahead of them.

Here is Klatt’s full top-10 rankings:

Notre Dame rooting guide for championship weekend

Which upset that Notre Dame needs to happen this weekend is most likely to occur?

You can go ahead and get excited about the future of Notre Dame football under new head coach Marcus Freeman but as Freeman himself said to the team when he spoke to them the first time as their head coach, “this is about right now!”.

And right now, entering college football’s championship weekend, Notre Dame has a chance at a College Football Playoff berth if things go as needed.

Friday night features a couple of games as Conference USA sees Western Kentucky battle UTSA for the league crown and Mario Cristobal may be coaching his final game at Oregon as the Ducks take on Utah in the Pac 12 championship.

There are then nine games on Saturday’s slate with four of them having a major impact on Notre Dame’s postseason destination.  Here is a rooting guide for Notre Dame fans for those four games:
