Pair of Georgia Bulldogs ranked among the best NFL free agents

Two Georgia Bulldogs are expected to be among the best players available when NFL free agency begins on March 11

Former Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Leonard Floyd ranks as the No. 70 NFL free agent available. Floyd, who spent this past season with the Buffalo Bills, is primarily a pass rush specialist. He is productive and is a good player to have when trying to hunt down mobile quarterbacks.

“It was mystifying that it took most of last offseason for Floyd to land a job, and then he finished the 2023 campaign with 10.5 sacks as a rotational player. Same as he ever was,” said NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal.

Former Philadelphia Eagles running back D’Andre Swift, a former Georgia standout, is considered the No. 72 NFL free agent on the market. Swift accumulated 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns last season. This is a deep free agent class at the running back position, but Swift can still be a major contributor for any NFL team.

“Swift showed with the Eagles in 2023 to be a tougher power runner with more durability than he ever was in Detroit,” said Rosenthal.

Swift and Floyd are among the 13 Georgia Bulldogs that are scheduled to become free agents. NFL free agency starts on March 11. Players can begin officially signing with NFL teams on March 13.

On the season, Swift has totaled 117 carries for 571 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another 135 yards on 28 catches and a score as a receiver.

Pickens didn’t have much room to work against a stout Jacksonville Jaguars defense. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers wideout did find the end zone on his lone 22-yard grab from Mitchell Trubisky.

The Steelers fell to the Jaguars 20-10. Pickens has totaled 28 catches for 522 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Georgia Bulldogs turned Philadelphia Eagles make a splash on MNF

D’Andre Swift, Jordan Davis & Jalen Carter showed-out on MNF…

Georgia Bulldogs were all over the field on Monday Night Football.

The most notable performances came from the Philadelphia Eagles‘ D’Andre Swift, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter in a 25-11 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Swift followed a 175-yard performance in Week 2 with another big game on Monday. He finished with 130 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Swift is taking advantage of playing behind an excellent Philadelphia offensive line.

Davis was immovable on the stout Eagles defensive line. He finished with three tackles and helped force a Tampa Bay safety.

Carter had arguably his best performance of his rookie season thus far, finishing with two tackles, 0.5 a sack, a quarterback hit and this forced fumble on an impressive hustle play.

Pro Football Focus (PFF) rates Carter as the No. 1 interior defender in the NFL this season.

Overall, the Eagles have six former Georgia Bulldogs on their roster.

Watch: D’Andre Swift scores impressive TD after falling down

Swift has 25 touches for 262 yards and two touchdowns to start the season

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back D’Andre Swift scored an incredible touchdown to help the Detroit Lions get their first win of the 2022 NFL season.

D’Andre Swift has made the most of his opportunities this season. Swift has 25 total touches for 262 yards and two touchdowns. He is averaging 10 yards per carry through the first two games of the year.

Swift juked out about three Washington defenders after falling down on third down and then found his way into the end zone.

Swift’s dead leg juke is one of the best moves in the NFL. He’s used that move to trick defenders for a long time.

The Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Commanders 36-27. Detroit is now 1-1 on the season and looks much more competitive this year.

Lions vs Rams: D’Andre Swift and Matthew Stafford steal the show

D’Andre Swift and Matthew Stafford went back and forth in the Rams win over the Lions on Sunday.

It was Matthew Stafford’s first game against the Detroit Lions, the team that drafted him and employed him for the first 12 years of his career.

The former Georgia Bulldog and No. 1 overall pick of the 2009 NFL draft was sent to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason in a blockbuster trade that included quarterback Jared Goff.

So of course this game meant something to Stafford — and he showed it on Sunday.

The Rams came away with a 28-19 win over Detroit and advanced to 6-1 on the season. The Lions drop to 0-7.

Stafford threw for 334 yards on 28/41 passing. He had three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also recorded his 300th career passing touchdown on Sunday.

There’s not been many bright spots this season for the struggling Lions. But if there’s one player who is getting Detroit fans excited, that would be former UGA running back D’Andre Swift. The second round pick in the 2020 NFL draft has been producing all season, and like his former teammate Stafford, he put up big numbers in Sunday’s game.

On Sunday, Swift had his best game of the season. He tallied 144 total yards and a touchdown. Of those 144 yards, 48 were on the ground and 96 of them came on his 10 catches. He had this 63 yard touchdown score early in the game.

It’s also worth noting that former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Leonard Floyd had a solid game on the Los Angeles defense as well, recording seven tackles. Rams running back Sony Michel, another former Dawg, did not do much on only two carries for four yards.

Stafford now has 2,172 yards, 19 touchdowns and just four interceptions through seven games this year. He’s on pace for 5,274 passing yards and 46 touchdowns. Both would be career highs.

Swift is getting done as well. He has 262 rushing yards to go along with his 42 receptions for 391 yards receiving. That’s a combined 653 total yards for Swift, who has also added five total touchdowns.

New Lions coaches has big plans for former Georgia RB D’Andre Swift

Expect more touches for former Georgia football RB D’Andre Swift going forward with the Detroit Lions.

Expect former Georgia running back D’Andre Swift to receive a few more touches per game under new offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn.

The former LA Chargers head coach Lynn, who was hired in late January to run the offense in Detroit, spoke to how he believes Swift should become a more significant part of the Lions’ passing game.

He also added that Detroit needs to “find someone else to go with him (Swift).”

Lynn is not the only new coach who has big plans for Swift, a former second round pick who just wrapped his rookie season. New running backs coach Deuce Staley added to what Lynn said, noting that Swift is a special player who should be seeing 25 touches per game.

“A lot of people think you got to go have 20 carries as running back to be successful, and sometimes you do,” Staley said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “But touches, when you have a good back, an electrifying back, touches are definitely more important. You can get 18 carries and seven touches as far as receptions and you have 25 touches, which is what you want from your star back. When I look at D’Andre, I do think he’s a three-down back and like I said, he has some special traits I can’t wait to get my hands on, so I’m excited about that.”

Swift’s rookie season concluded with the Philadelphia native rushing for 521 yards and 8 touchdowns on 114 carries. he also 46 passes for 357 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Here’s Sony Michel’s touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. Michel’s score put New England up 21-11 and put the game out of reach for the visiting Dolphins.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims made a clutch fourth quarter catch to help Chicago complete a comeback against Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions. Wims’ touchdown brought the Bears’ within a field goal of Detroit. Chicago went on to win 27-23.

Detroit Lions rookie D’Andre Swift gave them a key touchdown to cap off the first half against Chicago. It was the first touchdown of Swift’s career. Hopefully it will be the first of many.
