Report: Sony Michel to the Rams

Could the LA Rams go after Sony Michel?

With the New England Patriots being so deep at running back, it only makes sense to see what they can get for one of their many ball carriers.

Sony Michel, Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson are all solid backs who could probably see some serious playing time regardless of what team they’re on.

With that likely in mind, plus the fact that the Los Angeles Rams lost their running back Cam Akers for the season with a torn achilles, USA Today’s Henry McKenna thinks LA could be a potential trade partner with the Patriots for the former UGA running back.

This comes after the Rams lost another running back, Darrell Henderson, to injury.

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Sony Michel has looked good so far for the New England Patriots this preseason. Michel battled a quad injury and missed time last season. Michel finished with only 449 rushing yards in 2020, but averaged an impressive 5.7 yards per carry.

Michel is a key player for the New England Patriots. If he can stay healthy, the Patriots should have one of the better stables of running backs in the NFL.

Michel turned heads against the Philadelphia Eagles with some moves after he hauled in a pass from quarterback Mac Jones.

Michel can still stop on a dime and accelerate quickly. He’s a lock to make New England’s roster.

Michel and New England dominated Philadelphia in a 35-0 victory. Michel finished with seven rushes for 34 yards and hauled in four passes for 37 yards.

The Patriots have a very talented backfield that has looked strong throughout the preseason. Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Damien Harris, the expected starter, scored a touchdown early in the contest.

Rhamondre Stevenson, New England’s fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma,  followed his impressive preseason debut with a two touchdown performance against the Eagles. Lastly, J.J. Taylor had 12 carries for 93 rushing yards and scored a touchdown.

Overall, New England looks set at running back. Sony Michel may be the Patriots’ top pass-catcher of the group.

Two former Georgia Bulldog stars join NFL Reserve/COVID-19 list

Two former Georgia Bulldog players have joined the Reserve/COVID-19 list: New England Patriots RB Sony Michel and Jaguars WR Terry Godwin.

Two former Georgia Bulldog players have joined the Reserve/COVID-19 list. New England Patriots running back Sony Michel joins the list. The Patriots additionally added Shaq Mason and Derek Rivers to the list.

If a player is put on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, then it doesn’t always mean that they have the virus. Some players on the list have simply come into contact with people who have tested positive.

New England will be without some key players ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Sony Michel has rushed for 173 yards on only 26 carries this season. Michel hasn’t played since Sept. 27.

The Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad placed a dozen of their players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, including former Georgia Bulldog wide receiver Terry Godwin. Jacksonville’s starters isolate from their practice squad.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network and Field Yates of ESPN reported the stories. Pelissero included the full list of Jaguar practice squad players on the list:

Best Georgia Bulldog plays from NFL’s week one action

Former University of Georgia players consistently are impacting games with over thirty total Georgia Bulldogs on NFL rosters

Former University of Georgia players consistently are impacting games with over thirty total Georgia Bulldogs on NFL rosters. This past week, D’Andre Swift, Javon Wims, Sony Michel, and more made some great plays to help their respective teams.

Here’s Sony Michel’s touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. Michel’s score put New England up 21-11 and put the game out of reach for the visiting Dolphins.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims made a clutch fourth quarter catch to help Chicago complete a comeback against Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions. Wims’ touchdown brought the Bears’ within a field goal of Detroit. Chicago went on to win 27-23.

Detroit Lions rookie D’Andre Swift gave them a key touchdown to cap off the first half against Chicago. It was the first touchdown of Swift’s career. Hopefully it will be the first of many.

Additionally, Sunday marked the debut of numerous Georgia rookies in the NFL. One Dawg making his debut was Rodrigo Blankenship. Blankenship made a 38 yard field goal on his first NFL field goal attempt. The Colts fell to the Jaguars in a surprising upset defeat.

As always, quarterback Matthew Stafford put up a solid effort for the Detroit Lions. He passed for 297 yards on 42 attempts and threw a tight-window touchdown pass to second year tight end T.J. Hockenson. Stafford and the Lions fell in a losing effort to Chicago.

Former Georgia coach Mark Richt talks former UGA RB Sony Michel’s 2019 slump with Patriots

Patriots Wire recently spoke with former UGA coach Mark Richt about Sony Michel and is struggles as the Patriots running back in 2019.

The USA Today’s Patriots Wire recently spoke with former Georgia football coach Mark Richt about former Bulldog Sony Michel and his struggles as the New England Patriots starting running back in 2019.

After a productive 2018 season with New England, Michel’s yards per carry dropped almost a yard to only 3.7 with 247 rushes in 2019, totaling 912 yards with seven touchdowns for the season.

Per Patriots Wire:

“Well, here’s the deal: where is Sony right now? He’s still with the Patriots,” former Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt told the Patriots Wire on Tuesday. “So that answers the question on whether you think he still could be the guy or not. So, they may need to block a little. They may need to let him hit the perimeter. He may have his issues too — I don’t know what he was dealing with health-wise. But if there’s space, he’ll get it and make the first guy miss and he’ll make yards after contact. He’s legit.”

The Patriots selected Michel 31st overall in the 2018 draft after four productive years at Georgia where he rushed his way to No. 3 on the Bulldogs’ all-time rushing yards list.

That makes it Hershel Walker, Nick Chubb and then Sony Michel. You won’t find better company than that.

The duo of Michel and Chubb – both recruited and signed by Richt – proved to be one of the most dynamic ever as they set the record for the most rushing yards by a pair of running back teammates in FBS history.

Richt said of Michel during that time:

“He wasn’t a huge ego guy that wanted to be the only guy. He understood the advantages of staying fresh and staying healthy throughout a game, throughout a season, throughout a career. We convinced him that, when you are on the field, what you put on tape is what’s going to decide where you get drafted and what kind of a pro career you’re going to have.”

Michel was set to compete for the starting spot this year with former Alabama running back, Patriots 2019 third-round pick Damien Harris and offseason pickup Lamar Miller.

After injuries have held Harris on IR for the next three weeks and kept Miller from making a roster spot, so it looks like it will be all Michel for at least the start of the 2020 season.

Patriots remove RB Sony Michel from PUP list

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel has left the physically unable to perform list after undergoing foot surgery.

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel has been removed from the physically unable to perform list after spending a stint on it this summer. Michel is projected to be New England’s starting running back this season.

Michel, a former Georgia Bulldog, underwent foot surgery this offseason. He has already dealt with knee and ankle injuries in his career.

If Sony Michel remained on the PUP/reserve list he would had to sit out for a minimum of the first six weeks of the 2020 season. Despite being removed from the PUP list, Sony Michel’s situation worth monitoring for Patriot and Bulldog fans.

The Patriots open their season Sept. 13 at home against the Miami Dolphins. Michel will look to improve following a solid second NFL season, where he accumulated 912 rushing yards.

Michel fully participated in practice and appeared to be in good shape. That’s great news for New England fans who have seen their fair share of changes this offseason.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news of Michel’s return from the PUP list.

Beyond Sony Michel, the Patriots also have Rex Burkhead, Lamar Miller, Damien Harris, James White and J.J. Taylor at the running back position. Their running back position battle will be interesting to watch due to the depth of talent they have at the position.

Georgia Bulldogs fantasy football rankings

Where do Georgia Bulldogs like Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley, and Sony Michel rank in NFL Fantasy Football heading into the 2020 season?

Where are the best Georgia Bulldogs ranked for 2020’s fantasy football season? If fans aren’t allowed at NFL games, then fantasy football will be a larger part of the NFL season than ever.

Todd Gurley has recently been a popular number one overall pick, but this year he’s ranked lower due to injury concerns. These rankings, by ESPN’s Mike Clay, are based on scoring in a standard league (non-PPR).

Who belongs on UGA football’s Mt. Rushmore for the decade?

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum released his Georgia Bulldogs football Mt. Rushmore for the 2010s decade. Who was UGA’s best of the decade?

It’s been a decade full of ups and downs for Georgia Bulldog fans around the country. Georgia fans have seen a coaching change, had their hearts broken numerous times, and seen their Dawgs bounce back to the nation’s elite from a 6-7 season in the 2010 season.

Who have been the best Georgia Bulldogs this decade? One caveat that’s required is the player has to have made an impact this decade, not last decade. For instance A.J. Green would be in the running, but he only played one season (2010) this decade.

Here’s who Paul Finebaum put on Georgia’s all-decade team:

This isn’t a bad Mt. Rushmore. Sony Michel, Todd Gurley, and Nick Chubb show Georgia’s prowess at running back this decade. Gurley is the only player to leave after three years. Murray, Chubb, and Michel all stayed four years, which greatly helps their cause.

One question is: do you pick the best players or the ones who had the longest, most impactful careers?

Other candidates include: Jarvis Jones, Jake Fromm, Roquan Smith, Andrew Thomas, Deandre Baker, Alec Ogletree, Rodrigo Blankenship, Brandon Boykin, Bacarri Rambo, J.R. Reed, David Andrews, and Isaiah Wynn. Lots of talent has come through Athens this decade.

My Mt. Rushmore is: Aaron Murray, Andrew Thomas, Sony Michel, and Nick Chubb. Michel and Chubb played four years in Athens, so they get the nod over Todd Gurley. Each of these players are three or four-year starters, unlike Deandre Baker and Roquan Smith. I don’t think these are the best players (Todd Gurley was the best RB of the decade), but they each had long, consistent careers.

The defense gets no love, but defenders have rarely made a huge impact for three or four seasons in Athens. Brandon Boykin only played two years this decade. J.R. Reed was the toughest to leave off the list. He’s put up impressive numbers in his three season stay in Athens. Reed should’ve won the Jim Thorpe Award over Grant Delpit last week.
