Highlights: Warriors splash consecutive corner 3-pointers inside The Dubble at offseason minicamp

Before they wrapped up their offseason minicamp, a trio of Golden State Warriors splashed consecutive 3-pointers at practice in The Dubble.

After a seven month layoff, members of the Golden State Warriors recently made their long-awaited return to the practice floor at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

The Warriors spent the past two weeks living and practicing in a campus-like atmosphere in San Francisco. Outside of Steph Curry and Draymond Green, the Warriors roster met with five Santa Cruz G League Warriors inside “The Dubble.”

Following two weeks of drills, conditioning and scrimmages, the Warriors wrapped up camp on Tuesday. Before the voluntary offseason minicamp closed, the Warriors shared some footage from practice on Twitter.

In one video, Damion Lee, Jordan Poole, Zach Norvell and Jeremy Pargo did their best Splash Brothers impression, drilling a series of 3-pointers from the corner.

Although it didn’t make the cut for the beyond the arc montage above, Klay Thompson’s jumper received a standalone feature on Golden State’s Twitter.

Along with long-distance shooting, the Warriors shared a clip on Twitter that featured a moment from a scrimmage. In the highlight video, soon to be NBA sophomore Ky Bowman drove to the cup past G Leaguer Ryan Taylor for a right-handed layup.

While it’s not the same as game-action, with no hoops on the calendar, highlights from inside The Dubble might be the next best option for a dose of Golden State Warriors basketball.

Following the end of camp in San Francisco, members of the Warriors will have to wait until they can officially meet on the court as a team.

With minicamp over, the calendar has officially flipped to draft season in the Bay Area. Steve Kerr and Bob Myers will have until Nov. 18 to craft their plans for the No. 2 overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Warriors use Chase Center’s massive video scoreboard to play NBA 2K inside The Dubble

While the Warriors are inside The Dubble, Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson got to use Chase Center’s video scoreboard to play NBA 2K.

Over the last two weeks, members of the Golden State Warriors have returned to the Bay Area for a voluntary offseason minicamp.

Golden State’s players and coaches are residing in a campus-like atmosphere in San Francisco. When they’re not scrimmaging or going through drills on the court at practice, the Warriors need to fill their time inside the Bay Area edition of the Orlando Bubble.

On Saturday, a pair of Warriors transformed Chase Center into their own personal gaming room. Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson used the arena’s center court scoreboard monitor to play a game of NBA 2K. Lee and Toscano-Anderson matched up between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Indiana Pacers.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Chase Center’s video monitor is currently the largest center court display in the NBA, standing at 9,699 square feet.

If the players or coaches don’t decide to play NBA 2K, the Warriors have converted a room at Chase Center into a player’s lounge for the duration of camp. The lounge features games like cornhole, ping pong and pool.

The Warriors will close out camp inside “The Dubble” on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Damion Lee calls watching the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park an ‘unreal experience’

While Collin Morikawa earned the Wanamaker Trophy, a pair of Warriors were watching live at the Bay Area edition of the PGA Championship.

Over the weekend, San Francisco played host to the first major golf tournament on the 2020 calendar at TPC Harding Park. On Sunday, the 102nd edition of the PGA Championship teed off near Lake Merced in “The City.”

While a stacked group that included Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau battled for the clubhouse lead, a pair of Golden State Warriors were watching from the limited gallery. With the tournament in the Bay Area, golf fans Steph Curry and Damion Lee were able to follow along the course to view the Tour’s best at the PGA Championship.

On Monday, Lee shared a photo alongside the two-time Most Valuable Player, Kris Stoney and Curry’s former Davidson teammate Bryant Barr. Lee called watching the PGA Championship an “unreal experience” on Instagram.

In the final round, Collin Morikawa separated himself from the top group with an improbable tee shot on the 16th hole to set up a roll-in put for eagle. The Cal Berkeley alum finished with a score of six-under 64 on Sunday to cap his first major tournament victory at 23-years-old.

After the tournament, Curry transformed from point guard to reporter. The six-time All-Star appeared at the press conference in the winner’s circle as a reporter from “Underrated Media.” After his questions, Curry offered to serve as Morikawa’s caddie while the Warriors are on the outside of the Orlando Bubble.

With the Golden State Warriors in line for an extended offseason, Curry and Lee will have plenty of time to tee up on the golf course before returning to Chase Center.

Watch: Steph Curry, Marquese Chriss and others working out individually at practice facility

Although their season is over, Steph Curry, Marquese Chriss, Jordan Poole, Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson are busy working out at Golden State’s practice facility.

While 22-teams are preparing to return to training camp for the restart of the 2019-20 NBA campaign, the Golden State Warriors season is over. With the league’s worst record, the Warriors are one of eight teams staying on the outside of the league’s Orlando bubble.

Despite their season coming to a close, the Warriors are staying busy to start their early offseason. With their San Francisco practice facility reopening its doors, players are returning to the floor for individual work.

The Golden State Warriors Twitter account shared a video of a group of players working out at the Chase Center practice facility. Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, Marquese Chriss and Juan Toscano-Anderson were spotted getting shots up.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Although the Warriors are just training individually at the moment, it’s vital for Curry to be on the court with his new teammates. The two-time Most Valuable Player was held to only a handful of games due to injuries. Outside of Lee, Curry had limited playing time with Golden State’s newcomers like Chriss, Poole and Toscano-Anderson. Curry can use the early offseason to familiarize himself with the new cast of Warriors.

Report: Warriors will observe Juneteenth in helping to create reform

The Golden State Warriors will observe Juneteenth, an important holiday in the Black community.

The Golden State Warriors are continuing their efforts to be a part of much needed social change in America.

According to Logan Murdock of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors announced Thursday that they will observe Juneteenth, an important holiday in the Black community. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, but on June 19, 1865, slaves in Texas — who hadn’t heard about the proclamation before — were finally notified they were free.

The Warriors said the organization will observe the holiday “by encouraging active front office staff participation in the ongoing fight for racial justice.” With the Warriors observing Juneteenth, they are one of several NBA teams indicating the day as an important one on their calendars.

According to cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, the Cleveland Cavaliers will also observe Juneteenth. The Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets are some other teams observing the day.

The Warriors being unified as an organization shows how committed they are to helping combat racism and racial injustice.

The players have been an integral part of the franchise’s work in the community. Juan Toscano-Anderson, Steph Curry, Damion Lee and Marquese Chriss have all been at protests in the wake of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor being killed at the hands of police.

VIDEO: Some Warriors players return to Chase Center to practice

The Golden State Warriors tweeted a video of five players in Chase Center.

The Golden State Warriors have returned to Chase Center.

The week after the city of San Francisco gave the Warriors permission to use the arena, with a set of guidelines, the team Twitter account posted a video with a handful of players practicing.

Steph Curry, Damion Lee, Kevon Looney, Chasson Randle and Juan Toscano-Anderson were in the video, with Looney riding an elliptical machine.

The NBA may not be back, but in seeing these videos, there’s sense that basketball has returned.

In late April, the NBA released guidelines for how facilities would be allowed to be opened to players. Rules included no more than four players were allowed in the facility at the same time, and no group activity was allowed.

How Damion Lee could a play role similar to Shaun Livingston

Damion Lee shares the ability to initiate offense with former Golden State Warriors guard Shaun Livingston.

As the Golden State Warriors transition into a new era, Damion Lee is going to be arguably the most important part of the team’s young bench.

Lee, 27, is a success story for the effects of the NBA’s relatively new two-way contracts.

The contracts, which were implemented before the 2017-18 season, allow franchises to take on two additional players. These players spend most of their time in the G League and can be with their NBA affiliate for up to 45 days. It’s a good way to develop players and eventually bring them up full time to the NBA roster. The 45-day allotment provides ample NBA experience, and the time in the G League helps as well,

Lee had been on a two-way deal with the Warriors for the 2018-19 season, and he was on one for most of this season. That changed during January, though, when Golden State inked Lee to a standard contract with a partial guarantee for the 2020-21 season.

Lee, who had a career season in the 2019-20 campaign, now has more stability as a full-time player for the Warriors.

This season, Lee maximized the most opportunity he’s had so far in his career. The Warriors struggled with injuries throughout the season, and they needed players to fill out their roster at different points of the year.

Lee was there to produce, starting in a career-high 36 games and scoring a career-best 12.7 points per game. As a reputable shooter, Lee shot 35.6% from the 3-point line on a career-high 4.9 attempts.

With Lee’s game blooming, his impact off the bench next season could be similar to a former Warriors guard.

Before Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and made the franchise one of the most feared teams in NBA history, Shaun Livingston had one of the most important roles on the team’s bench.

The Warriors had arguably the best depth in the league during their 2014-15 season and the historic 2015-16 season. Livingston, with his playmaking and ability to control an offense, was a leader for the second unit. His play in the 2016 postseason was some of the best of his career. He scored 8.2 points per game and dished 3.3 assists — both numbers are the most he had in the playoffs while with Golden State.

Lee isn’t the facilitator Livingston was, but his potential to be an efficient initiator on offense is similar to what Livingston brought. During the 2015-16 season, Livingston only shot 4.9 field goals a game. But he shot 53.6% from the field, the second-highest average of his career.

The Warriors will need someone to help control the game next season when Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green aren’t playing. Lee has shown he can be that player. According to NBA.com stats, he posted the highest usage percentage (18.4%) of his career this season.

He had one of the best games of his young career last Christmas, when the Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets, 116-104. He scored a team-high 22 points and shot 55.6% from the field. He also grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.

Lee has shown to be a better scorer than Livingston, but he could improve maximizing the shots he earns during his time on the floor. He shot 41.7% from the field on a career-high 10.4 attempts this season, but he also played a career-high 29.0 minutes a game. Next season he may play somewhere around 20-23 minutes because Curry, Thompson and Green all project to be back.

Along with Eric Paschall, Lee has the potential to be an important fixture of the Warriors’ bench. Livingston was meant to be a facilitator, but he still could score when necessary.

Lee doesn’t facilitate like Livingston, but the ability to maintain the offense’s overall production remains the same between both players. For the Warriors to return to relevancy, Lee continuing to thrive could be an important part of the Warriors’ future success.

The NBA is currently on hiatus until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. The next set of Golden State Warriors games are on hold for at least 30 days.

After impressive game vs. 76ers, Damion Lee gets support from Steph Curry and Kevin Durant

After Damion Lee recorded 24 points against the 76ers, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry posted support for the former two-way guard on social media.

In Stephen Curry’s return to the Golden State Warriors against the Toronto Raptors, Damion Lee quietly stole the show. The former two-way guard matched Curry with 23 points while adding five rebounds, three assists and a steal against the defending NBA champions.

However, Lee’s game was defined by how he finished. Down four points with 26 seconds remaining, the Drexel product missed two crucial free throws that followed with a missed 3-pointer. Toronto was able to seal the game with two free throws on the other end.

In Golden State’s next game on the schedule, Lee found redemption. Against the Philadelphia 76ers, the 27-year-old guard racked up 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes.

In Golden State’s comeback win, Lee punched in a critical left-handed baseline runner while he was fouled. The Golden State guard knocked down his free throw attempt to give the Warriors a two-point lead with under two minutes remaining. In the fourth quarter alone, Lee registered seven points and three rebounds.

After his impressive night against the Sixers, Lee received support from two former Most Valuable Players.

As Lee was chosen to participate in a postgame interview, Kevin Durant shared a picture of his former two-way contract teammate on his Instagram story.

Curry missed Golden State’s comeback win against the 76ers due to the flu, but after the game, he tweeted praise for his backcourt mate.

Over the last eight games, Lee is averaging 16.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest. The Baltimore native will get another chance to build off his hot play when the Warriors welcome Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers to San Francisco.
