3 weird Jazz offseason moves that aren’t going to make Donovan Mitchell happy and suggest something big might happen

How much longer will we see Donovan Mitchell play for the Utah Jazz?

The Utah Jazz, one of the most successful regular season teams of the last few years, are currently having an especially weird offseason.

When fans look at the moves the organization has made thus far, it’s a bit hard to understand what the intentions are here. But it doesn’t seem like they are making moves that satisfy their franchise cornerstone, Donovan Mitchell, very happy.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst certainly suggested as much during a recent appearance on First Take. Additionally, recent social media activity from Mitchell may imply something similar.

We don’t know what will happen next, of course, but maybe a re-build is on the horizon. Here are some of the reasons we may believe as much:

Former Warrior Eric Paschall to wear No. 0 with the Utah Jazz

After wearing No. 7 with the Golden State Warriors, Eric Paschall will rep a new jersey number with the Utah Jazz.

During the 2021 offseason, Eric Paschall’s time with the Golden State Warriors came to an end. In early August, Paschall was traded to the Utah Jazz for a future second-round pick in the NBA draft.

When he reunites with his childhood friend Donovan Mitchell in Utah, Paschall will don a new jersey number. After wearing No. 7 in Golden State, the Villanova product will suit up in No. 0 with his new team. Paschall shared a screenshot from NBA 2K21 with his new jersey number.

Via @epaschall on Twitter:

Prior to getting traded to the Jazz, Paschall spent two seasons with the Warriors after getting drafted by Bob Myers and Steve Kerr out of Villanova in the second round of the 2019 NBA draft.

During his debut season in the association, Paschall earned a spot on the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team, averaging 14.0 points on 49.7% shooting from the field with 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest. In his sophomore season, Paschall averaged 9.5 points on 49.7% shooting from the floor in a role off the bench.

Paschall will make his return to the Bay Area on Jan. 23 when the Jazz travel to Chase Center for a tilt against the Warriors.

Warriors’ Eric Paschall reacts to Steph Curry being named to the All-NBA First Team

Following Steph Curry getting named to the NBA’s All-First Team, his Golden State Warriors teammate Eric Paschall celebrated on Twitter.

On his way to pushing the Golden State Warriors to a Western Conference play-in tournament birth, Steph Curry earned the 2020-21 edition of the scoring title with 32 points per game on 48.2% shooting from the field. The sharpshooting Golden State point guard also led the NBA with 5.3 triples made per contest on 42.1% shooting from beyond the arc.

After Curry’s campaign that ended with him scoring 30 or more points in 21 of the final 24 games, the 11-year-veteran was named to the 2020-21 All-NBA First Team for the fourth time in his career. Adding to his first-team honors, Curry has earned three All-NBA second-team nods during his time in the association.

Following Curry’s accolades, his Golden State teammate weighed in on social media. Warriors forward Eric Paschall had a simple message on Twitter in response to Curry’s spot on the All-NBA First Team.

Curry rounded out his All-NBA first-team run with 5.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest in 63 games.

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic filled out the rest of the All-NBA first team for the 2020-21 season.

Injury Report: Warriors’ Eric Paschall to miss at least two weeks with hip flexor strain

After suffering a hip flexor strain against the Toronto Raptors, Eric Paschall is set to miss at least two weeks for the Golden State Warriors.

Although the Golden State Warriors are slated to get Steph Curry and Draymond Green back against the Atlanta Hawks, the team will still be without a key contributor.

On Sunday, the Warriors announced that Eric Paschall would miss at least the next two weeks before being re-evaluated after an MRI showed a left hip flexor strain.

Via @WarriorsPR on Twitter:

During a virtual pregame press conference before the Warriors’ contest against the Hawks, Steve Kerr told members of the media Paschall “tweaked” his hip injury during Friday’s loss to the Toronto Raptors. Kerr called the injury “disappointing” for the Warriors and for Paschall.

Although the second-year forward has played limited minutes during a recent stretch, Paschall has played a significant role off Golden State’s bench in the 2020-21 campaign. Coming off being named to the All-Rookie team in 2020, Paschall is averaging 9.5 points on 49.1% shooting from the floor with 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.3 minutes off the bench.

During Paschall’s two-week absence, the Warriors are slated to play eight games, including tough matchups against the Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics.

While Paschall is sidelined, Golden State could lean on Juan Toscano-Anderson in the second unit’s frontcourt. The Oakland native is averaging 4.6 points on 55.7% shooting from the floor with 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 17.4 minutes per game.

Paschall’s injury re-evaluation on his hip flexor strain could come on April 18 before the Warriors meet the Philadelphia 76ers on the road.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall (hip) out vs. Hawks on Sunday, Draymond Green (finger) questionable

Although Steph Curry is available to return against the Atlanta Hawks, Draymond Green is questionable and Eric Paschall has been ruled out on Sunday.

After suffering their worst loss of the season in a 53 point blowout to the Toronto Raptors on Friday, the Golden State Warriors could get some much-needed reinforcements for the final contest of their three-game road swing.

Following a two-game stint back in the starting lineup, Steph Curry returned to the injury report with tailbone soreness against the Raptors. Before the Warriors meet the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, Curry has been removed from the injury report. Without Curry, the Warriors have notched a 1-7 record on the season.

Despite Curry’s potential return, the Warriors could still be without a pair of key contributors. Prior to the tipoff in Tampa Bay, Draymond Green was ruled as a late scratch against the Raptors with a finger sprain. The former Defensive Player of the Year is listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest in Atlanta.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

While Green’s status is questionable, Eric Paschall has been ruled out against the Hawks due to hip soreness.

With Green questionable and Paschall out, Juan Toscano-Anderson will likely play an increased role against the Hawks. On Friday in Tampa Bay, the Oakland native drew the start against the Raptors. However, Toscano-Anderson went scoreless, recording only an assist and rebound in 11 minutes.

The Warriors will cap a three-game road trip in Atlanta on Sunday at 4 p.m. PT.

Injury Report: Warriors forward Eric Paschall (wrist) ruled out vs. Heat on Thursday

To start a three-game road swing against the Miami Heat, the Golden State Warriors will be without Eric Paschall due to a wrist injury.

Although Steph Curry returned to the starting lineup after a five-game absence, the Golden State Warriors were still missing a key contributor against the Chicago Bulls on Monday evening at Chase Center.

While Curry was cleared to return for Golden State’s 116-102 victory over Chicago, Eric Paschall was sidelined for the game with a wrist injury. Following a pair of off days, Paschall’s injury is set to keep him out for the start of Golden State’s upcoming three-game road swing.

After missing practice on Wednesday, the Warriors have ruled Paschall out for Thursday’s contest against the Miami Heat.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Despite missing some time in the league’s health and safety protocol since the All-Star break, Paschall has played a key role in Golden State’s second unit in his sophomore season. The 2020 All-Rookie team forward is averaging 9.5 points on 49.6% shooting from the field with 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.2 minutes off the bench this season.

Without Paschall, the Warriors will need to lean on Jordan Poole, Nico Mannion and Kent Bazemore for scoring off the bench. On Monday, Bazemore led Golden State’s second unit with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in 17 minutes.

Golden State will open a three-game road trip on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT in Miami.

Injury Report: Steph Curry (tailbone) probable vs. Bulls, Eric Paschall (wrist) out

Prior to the Warriors’ tilt against the Bulls on Monday, Steph Curry (tailbone) is listed as probable, but Eric Paschall has been ruled out.

During the Golden State Warriors’ four-game losing skid, Steph Curry has been sidelined with a tailbone contusion. In a contest against the Houston Rockets, the seven-time All-Star fell after backpedaling near the sideline. While Curry has missed the last five games, the Warriors have recorded a 1-4 record during that span.

After two-days off over the weekend, the Warriors could be getting a much-needed boost against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. After starting the day listed as questionable, the two-time Most Valuable Player has been upgraded to probable against the Bulls at Chase Center.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Although Curry is trending towards a return to the lineup, the Warriors will be without Eric Paschall. The second-year forward will be sidelined against the Bulls with a wrist injury on Monday night.

Paschall has played limited minutes since returning from the league’s health and safety protocol, but is averaging 9.5 points on 49.6% shooting from the field with 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.2 minutes off the bench this season.

If Curry can return on Monday, Jordan Poole will likely slide back to a scoring role in Golden State’s second unit. With Curry out, Poole impressed in the starting lineup, averaging 20.4 points on 46.1% shooting from the field with 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds in five games.

Golden State needs all the offensive firepower they can get on Monday with Chicago’s All-Star guard Zach LaVine arriving at Chase Center on Monday. The UCLA product is averaging a career-high 27.9 points on 51.8% shooting from the field.

The Warriors will welcome the Bulls to the Bay Area on Monday at 7 p.m. PT.

Injury Report: James Wiseman, Eric Paschall cleared from NBA’s health and safety protocol

Before the Warriors host the 76ers at Chase Center, Eric Paschall and James Wiseman have been cleared from the NBA’s health and safety protocol.

Before a tilt against the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia 76ers at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors will be getting some needed reinforcements in the frontcourt.

After missing Golden State’s three-game road swing, Eric Paschall and James Wiseman have been officially cleared to return to the rotation, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Paschall and Wiseman have been in the protocol for contact tracing since March 17.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Kevon Looney will also be returning to the Warriors after entering the league’s health and safety protocol. However, Looney’s stint away from the Warriors was only limited to one game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Without Wiseman and Paschall, the Warriors leaned on Draymond Green, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Alen Smailagic in the frontcourt. The return of Wiseman and Paschall will give the Warriors depth and a needed scoring boost off the bench.

[mm-video type=video id=01f1eh254z6yv9an93 playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01eqbvq570kgj8vfs7 image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f1eh254z6yv9an93/01f1eh254z6yv9an93-ab3a2fad246894819a37c20963b556bc.jpg]

Paschall has been a staple in Kerr’s second unit, tallying 9.5 points on 49.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes off the bench. After moving to a role behind Looney, Wiseman is averaging 12,1 points on 54.5% shooting from the field with 5.8 boards in 20.4 minutes off the bench.

Although the Warriors will be getting back a trio of key contributors, Steph Curry will miss his third consecutive contest with a tailbone contusion.

The Warriors will welcome the Sixers to Chase Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. PT.

Steve Kerr: James Wiseman, Eric Paschall (NBA’s health and safety protocol) could possibly play vs. 76ers

After missing the last three games in the league’s health and safety protocol, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall could possibly play against the Sixers on Tuesday.

After missing one game in the NBA’s health and safety protocol, Kevon Looney was cleared to return to the team on Sunday. However, the Warriors are still waiting on two more players to make their return from the protocol.

On March 17, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall entered the league’s health and safety protocol for contact tracing. Initially, the pair of players were slated to miss the next seven days. Yet, there’s a chance the players could return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a post-practice video conference on Monday, Steve Kerr told members of the media Wiseman and Paschall could “possibly” play against the Sixers at Chase Center on Tuesday.

Eric [Paschall] and James [Wiseman] could possibly play tomorrow. They were not allowed to practice today. We’re hopeful everything goes fine with their testing, which it has been, but they have to complete another couple of tests and if they do, there’s a chance they’ll be available tomorrow.

Listen to Kerr’s full presser from Monday via Warriors SoundCloud.

With the Eastern Conference-leading 76ers in town, Paschall and Wiseman’s return would provide a needed boost to Golden State’s frontcourt. Without the pair, the Warriors have leaned on Draymond Green, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Alen Smailagic at power forward and center.

[mm-video type=video id=01f1eh254z6yv9an93 playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01eqbvq570kgj8vfs7 image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f1eh254z6yv9an93/01f1eh254z6yv9an93-ab3a2fad246894819a37c20963b556bc.jpg]

Along with help in the frontcourt, Paschall and Wiseman would bring more depth and stability to Golden State’s thin second unit. Before entering the protocol, Wiseman was averaging 11.8 points on 52.6% shooting from the field with 6.0 boards and 1.0 blocks per contest.

Paschall has been one of Golden State’s leaders in the second unit, tallying 9.5 points on 49.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes off the bench.

The Warriors will welcome the Sixers to Chase Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. PT.

Warriors’ James Wiseman and Eric Paschall to miss seven days for contact tracing

After missing the Warriors contest against the Rockets on Thursday, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall will miss the next seven days for contact tracing.

Prior to the start of the Golden State Warriors contest against the Houston Rockets, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall were ruled out after entering the league’s health and safety protocols. Along with the pair of players, some of Golden State’s assistant coaches and developmental staff were absent from the bench.

While the Warriors secured a victory over Houston without Paschall and Wiseman, the pair of players are slated to miss more time. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Paschall and Wiseman will miss seven days in contact tracing.

The Warriors will be without both players for a back-to-back series against the Memphis Grizzlies over the weekend and next Tuesday’s contest at Chase Center against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Both players have played significant roles on Golden State’s second unit. After being selected with the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Wiseman is averaging 11.8 points on 52.6% shooting from the field with 6.0 boards and 1.0 blocks per contest. In his sophomore season, Paschall is averaging 9.5 points on 49.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes off the bench.

Without Wiseman and Paschall against the Rockets, Steve Kerr leaned on Juan Toscano-Anderson in the frontcourt off the bench. Kevon Looney and Draymond Green will likely play larger roles in a small ball-heavy rotation for Kerr over the next seven days. Second-year forward Alen Smailagic could also be an option in the frontcourt for Golden State. However, the Serbian has only played three-minutes in one game this season.
