Moses Moody could replace Klay Thompson in Warriors starting lineup

Moses Moody could potentially replace Klay Thompson in the Golden State Warriors starting lineup next season.

Klay Thompson is entering unrestricted free agency. The Golden State Warriors are widely expected to re-sign the veteran sharpshooter. Earlier this season, Thompson had a stretch of games where he came off the Warriors bench as Steve Kerr looked to find a balance within his rotation.

Thompson could find himself occupying a bench role more consistently next season, with Moses Moody replacing him in the starting lineup. Moody has been patiently waiting for a bigger role within the Warriors rotation over the past couple of year.

“It could very well be somebody on the roster,” Kerr said. “I think our young guys are going to continue to get better. For a while we started Brandin [Podziemski] instead of Klay. So that’s a possibility. Maybe Moses moves into the starting lineup…He’s a really good player, and he’s a young player who still has a lot of room for growth. Decision-making at both ends needs to improve. Quicker decisions. Quicker rotations defensively. Recognition of patterns.”

The Warriors boast several talented young players ready for bigger roles. Moody is among that contingent. With Thompson showing upside as a bench scorer, it could make sense for Kerr to make that role permanent, should the veteran remain in the Bay Area.

Moody, 21, could thrive in a more prominent role for Golden State, especially if he’s sharing the court with some of the team’s more experienced veterans. Whether Thompson would be willing to re-sign for a bench role will remain to be seen.

Would Warriors vet sharpshooter Klay Thompson make sense as a free agent target for the Spurs?

Should the Spurs consider taking a flyer on the Washington State alum?

Would Golden State Warriors vet sharpshooter Klay Thompson make sense as a free agent target for the San Antonio Spurs this offseason? The Dubs forward remains one of the most feared 3-point shooters in the NBA (and for good reason, at 38.7% from beyond the arc at volume in 2023-25), and it doesn’t appear to be a lock that he will return to Golden State on his next contract with the team getting older and less effective.

Should the Spurs consider taking a flyer on the Washington State alum? Or do the Warriors know what they are doing by not leaping at the chance to extend the 34-year-old swingman?

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, sat down with “Sweep The League” podcast’s Rudy Campos to discuss the chances of the Spurs landing Thompson.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Klay Thompson doesn’t want an expiration date on his career

Klay Thompson doesn’t want to put a timeframe on how long he has left in the NBA.

Klay Thompson is heading into unrestricted free agency. His future with the Golden State Warriors has been a primary talking point throughout the season. At 34 years old, his upcoming contract could be the last of his career.

On Tuesday, Thompson went scoreless as the Warriors were eliminated from the play-in tournament, which added further confusion around his future with the team. When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Thompson noted that he doesn’t want to put an expiration date on his career by committing to playing a predefined number of seasons.

“I don’t know,” Thompson said. “When that time comes. I’m not trying to put an expiration date on my career. Just go by feel.”

The Orlando Magic are reportedly interested in adding Thompson to their roster this summer. Warriors franchise owner Joe Lacob has also discussed his desire to duck under the tax apron. As such, there are some members of the fan base and the media that believe the veteran shooter could be a potential casualty of a roster realignment this summer.

Thompson’s future will undoubtedly be among the top priorities for the Warriors front office. We will likely know what is next for him shortly after the free agency period begins. Until then, there will be an endless swirl of speculation.

As a genuine legend for the franchise, it’s likely he has the opportunity to continue his career in the Bay Area, assuming he’s willing to work with the team in terms of contract negotiations.

Steve Kerr still believes in Warriors veteran core

Steve Kerr believes Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are still good enough to lead the Warriors to another championship.

The Golden State Warriors will watch the 2024 NBA playoffs from home.

The Sacramento Kings eliminated the four-time champions from the play-in tournament on Tuesday. The deflating ending put an exclamation mark on a difficult season in which the Warriors dealt with inconsistency, injuries and suspensions.

Nevertheless, head coach Steve Kerr still believes his veteran core can win another championship. Speaking to the media following his team’s loss, he shared his faith in Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. He noted all three of the veterans are still highly talented individuals.

“I believe they can,” Kerr said when asked if the core could make another championship run. “These guys are all still really good players. Hopefully, we can re-sign Klay. Draymond and Steph are all under contract. So, we’re gonna roll it back next year.”

Golden State’s front office will have its hands full this summer. In recent years, it has been straddling two timelines. The Warriors’ younger contingent of players has impressed. Figuring out how to appeal to different age groups is clearly proving to be a tough task for Kerr and his coaching staff.

If the Warriors decide to run it back next season, they will need to improve the supporting cast. With months until the start of free agency, Golden State’s front office will have plenty of time to plan how it wants to move forward.

Steph Curry never sees himself not playing with Green and Thompson

Steph Curry can’t envision not sharing the court with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green for the Golden State Warriors.

The 2024 NBA playoffs will not feature Steph Curry. The veteran superstar and his Golden State Warriors teammates were eliminated from the play-in tournament by the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.

The defeat ended an inconsistent season that raised multiple questions regarding the direction of the franchise.

Klay Thompson will head into unrestricted free agency, and Steve Kerr is expecting some changes. However, when speaking to the media after the game, Curry noted he can’t envision not playing alongside Thompson and Draymond Green. Nevertheless, Curry’s primary focus is on winning.

“I can never see myself not with those two guys,” Curry said. “I understand this league changes and there’s so many things that go into it. We’re not going to play forever. We’ve experienced so much together. At the end of the day, I know they wanna win, I know I wanna win. … This is unfamiliar territory, I just wanna win. Whatever that means, I wanna win.”

Despite his season coming to a close, Curry can hold his head high. The 36-year-old averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists on 45% shooting from the field and 40.8% shooting from 3-point range. Even at this late stage of his career, he’s still the best shooter in the NBA.

The Warriors front office will have tough decisions to make during the summer. Thompson’s future will be at the top of the list. Nevertheless, with Curry and the Warriors core aging, time is running out to put them in a position to challenge for their fifth championship.

Draymond Green expects Warriors to do right by Klay Thompson

Draymond Green believes the Golden State Warriors will re-sign Klay Thompson during the off-season.

Klay Thompson had a night to forget against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. The veteran sharpshooter went 0-of-10 in a scoreless outing as the Golden State Warriors were eliminated from the play-in tournament.

Now, Thompson heads into free agency with his last outing being among the worst in his career.

Nevertheless, Draymond Green believes the Warriors will do right by their four-time champion. He noted how front office re-signed him to a four-year $100 million deal last summer. He also pointed to Steph Curry’s contract extension. He believes the front office will continue supporting the team’s veteran core.

“Obviously, we want Klay back,” Thompson said. “They’ve shown nothing but respect, loyalty, love and trust for us. So, I’ve got no reason to go into it like, ‘Oh man, they’re not going to do by right by Klay.’ They’ve done right by me. They’ve done right by Steph. They’ve done right by all of us. Klay tore his ACL, they paid him $160 million. I have no reason to think our ownership group aren’t going to take care of us, the way we’ve taken care of this organization. Ultimately, that decision will be Klay’s. … There’s a lot of organizations that will only do what’s best for the organization. This ain’t one of them.”

Thompson will undoubtedly have offers from teams around the NBA. Even after his tough night against the Kings, there’s no denying that he’s among the best shooters in the NBA. His championship experience would also be invaluable to most locker rooms in the league.

Thompson’s future has hung over the Warriors all season. It’s going to be the biggest talking point heading into the summer. For now, though, it would appear everyone within the organization is rooting for him to come back next season.

Steve Kerr wants Klay Thompson back with Warriors next season

Steve Kerr would like the Golden State Warriors to re-sign Klay Thompson in the summer.

Klay Thompson’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors could be over.

The veteran sharpshooter is heading into unrestricted free agency after a 0-for-10 night against the Sacramento Kings. His inconsistent production throughout the season will be fresh in the front office’s mind as it weighs  whether to extend him a new contract.

When speaking to the media following Golden State’s elimination, head coach Steve Kerr confirmed he would like to see Thompson return next season. He believes Thompson still has something to offer at the highest level and can continue competing for a few years.

“We need Klay back,” Kerr said. “I know he had a tough night tonight. What he represents for us, the spacing, we’re not a deep shooting team. We’re a little top-heavy. Klay’s presence means so much to the spacing on the floor, to the flow of the offense. He’s still got good years left. I know I speak for everyone in the organization, we want him back. Obviously, there’s business at hand. That has to be addressed with Klay’s representatives, Mike and Joe. What Klay has meant to this franchise, as good as he still is, we desperately want him back.”

Thompson has been in and out of Golden State’s starting unit this season. His future with the franchise is unclear. However, when he’s at his best and playing with freedom, he is still one of the better perimeter shooters in the NBA.

Golden State’s championship-winning core is aging, and a new contingent of young talent is emerging behind it. It will be interesting to see whether the front office stands by Thompson or allows him to leave to open more minutes for their impressive young talents to continue their development.

Watch: Chris Paul and Klay Thompson enjoy time on Klay’s boat

The two Golden State Warriors veteran were enjoying some time on Klay Thompson’s boat over the weekend.

On Sunday (April 14), the Golden State Warriors closed out their regular season with a win over the Utah Jazz. Ahead of the game, Klay Thompson and Chris Paul were enjoying some rest and relaxation on the water as they made use of Thompson’s boat.

In a video posted to Instagram, Paul can be seen driving Thompson’s boat with some instruction from the veteran sharpshooter. The pair were clearly enjoying the day and finding ways to keep their minds off the impending play-in tournament that will undoubtedly define how we view the Warriors’ season.

Paul has been a welcomed addition to the Warriors rotation this season. He’s slotted in seamlessly with the team’s veteran core, and will undoubtedly have a big role to play when Golden State faces the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday (April 16), whether he has a shot at winning a championship this season will remain to be seen.

Klay let CP drive the boat y’all. I think that makes him the first teammate to be given the honor. What a legend. Also the vibes, they are immaculate. 😎

Klay Thompson still plans on re-signing with the Warriors

Klay Thompson still plans on re-signing with the Warriors in free agency.

With the regular season drawing to a close and the Golden State Warriors’ future hanging in the balance, the discussion surrounding Klay Thompson’s future with the franchise has resurfaced.

The veteran sharpshooter will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. It was recently reported the Orlando Magic would be interested in acquiring him.

However, during a recent appearance on “The Draymond Green Show,” Thompson reiterated his desire to remain in Golden State for the final phase of his career. Nevertheless, Thompson noted he will be prioritizing his mental health moving forward.

“I just can’t believe it’s here,” Thompson said. “In your mid-20s, you think you’re gonna play forever. I was actually struggling with that a lot earlier this year. … Yes, I wanna re-sign with the Dubs, but I also have to prioritize my mental health and lay out what’s important to me at this point in my career.”

It’s unclear what type of contract offer will be extended to Thompson at the end of the season. With an aging roster, it makes sense that the Warriors are looking to get out of the luxury tax. There will likely be teams willing to pay Thompson more than what Golden State offers.

Nevertheless, if Thompson wants to remain with Golden State, it’s hard to envision that not being a possibility. He’s earned the right to control his narrative and how he bows out of the NBA, whenever that will be. Still, we will not know what he decides to do until later this summer. That doesn’t mean his future will not continue to be a talking point, though.

Rising Eastern Conference team eyeing Klay Thompson in free agency

A young and upcoming Eastern Conference franchise is reportedly interested in acquiring Klay Thompson this summer.

According to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, the Orlando Magic are reportedly interested in acquiring Klay Thompson once the 2024 free-agency period begins.

The veteran forward is in the final months of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent once the season concludes.

Thompson, 34, could be tempted to join a new team, assuming the offer is enticing enough. The Magic’s interest is based on Thompson’s ability to space the floor and knock down his catch-and-shoot 3s. Orlando is looking to improve its spacing around Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

“One of the worst-kept secrets in the league is that Orlando, loaded with young talent but not with shooters, might offer Klay a ton of money next summer,” Kawakami reported. “… Put bluntly, Klay is the only one of the big three who might end up more valuable to another team than what the Warriors want to pay him. The more durable he continues to be, the larger the contract he deserves. The Warriors should absolutely try to bring him back, and not just as a sentimental gesture.”

Despite his contract running down and no deal being in place, Thompson has expressed his desire to remain with the Golden State Warriors. He has won four championships with the franchise. He likely wants to end his career with Steph Curry and Draymond Green to complete a fairy tale run in the best basketball league in the world.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Thompson’s contract situation in the coming months. For now, though, he is a part of the Warriors roster and aims to help them qualify for and then compete in the 2024 NBA playoffs.
