Seahawks sign linebacker Mychal Kendricks to practice squad

The Seahawks have signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks – who spent the last two seasons in Seattle – to the practice squad on Wednesday.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of roster moves on Wednesday, including the return of another familiar face, signing linebacker Mychal Kendricks to the practice squad.

Kendricks spent the last two years in Seattle and finished 2019 on the injured reserve after tearing his ACL. He started 14 games for the Seahawks last season, logging 71 tackles, 3.0 sacks and one interception.

“We were fortunate to get him on our practice squad right now,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters during his press conference. “He’s still a free agent and all that but he’s on his road to recovery right now, coming back in and proving he can do it.”

Kendricks had reportedly visited the Seahawks earlier in the month.

Seattle also signed another veteran linebacker to the practice squad, Ray-Ray Armstrong. Armstrong, who has spent time with the Cowboys, 49ers, Giants, Raiders, Rams and Browns over his eight years in the league, has appeared in 84 games.

Finally, the Seahawks have promoted safety Damarious Randall from the practice squad to take the spot of Lano Hill, who has been placed on the injured reserve.

Seahawks elevate Damarious Randall not Snacks Harrison from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have elevated safety Damarious Randall from the practice squad Week 5, not defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison.

The Seattle Seahawks elevated one member of their practice squad Saturday ahead of the Sunday-night matchup against the Minnesota Vikings – but it’s likely not who you were thinking.

Seattle elevated safety Damarious Randall, not defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, who was just signed to the practice squad this week.

“He’s a player that’s got big character in the locker room – his attitude and personality that you add to the team is really special,” coach Pete Carroll said of Harrison on Wednesday. “Whenever we can do that, we’re trying to get better, so hopefully he’ll be able to add in. Right now we just want to get to work and get him going with us.”

While Seattle does plan to ease Harrison into a role, the fact that he hasn’t stepped onto a football field since last season could be a big part of the equation. Carroll had said he wanted to see how Harrison practiced before just throwing him out there on game day.

Randall’s elevation does make sense, however, in light of the injuries to safeties Jamal Adams and Lano Hill.

Seahawks elevate 2 defensive backs ahead of Dolphins game

The Seahawks have elevated two defensive backs ahead of the Dolphins game Week 4: safety Damarious Randall and cornerback Gavin Heslop.

The Seattle Seahawks are running thin on the defensive side of the ball due to injuries. Safety Jamal Adams and linebacker Jordyn Brooks have already been ruled out for Sunday and three other defenders are listed as questionable to face the Dolphins.

To add some depth to the secondary, the Seahawks have elevated two defensive backs from the practice squad ahead of their Week-4 contest. Safety Damarious Randall and cornerback Gavin Heslop have both been brought up from the practice squad.

Randall was just signed to the practice squad this week and is a versatile option for Seattle.

Both players are now available for the Seahawks to utilize on their game-day roster and will automatically revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

The Seahawks and the Dolphins are set to square off Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Here’s everything you need to know to catch all the action as well as our preview for the matchup.

Damarious Randall could provide needed depth to Seahawks secondary

Defensive back Damarious Randall, who was signed to the practice squad, could provide needed depth to the Seattle Seahawks secondary.

The Seattle Seahawks picked up defensive back Damarious Randall and placed him on their practice squad Tuesday following his release from the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Seahawks secondary is looking pretty beat up just three games into the season and could use the extra depth.

Coach Pete Carroll praised general manager John Schneider for acquiring a possible reinforcement in Randall in the wake of injuries to Jamal Adams and Quinton Dunbar, among others. He also said that Randall did well in workouts, so the promise is there.

“For us to be able to pick him up under these circumstances with guys being banged up and when there’s some uncertainty here, that’s a great job by John to figure that out how to get him here and all that,” Carroll said. “He looked good in the workouts, and we’ll see what happens as our needs present themselves this weekend.”

Prior to joining the Raiders, Randall played for the Packers for three years as a converted cornerback and the Browns for two years in his natural safety position.

Randall could prove useful to the Seahawks, especially if they suffer even more injuries in the secondary. We’ll see how that plays out as we head into the weekend.

Ex-Browns safety Damarious Randall cut by the Raiders

Randall failed to make the Raiders roster while ex-Raider safety Karl Joseph replaced him in Cleveland

The rocky road continues for former Browns starting safety Damarious Randall. The veteran is being released by the Las Vegas Raiders before ever taking the field in an actual game for his new team.

The news of Randall being dumped by the Raiders was first reported by NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo.

Randall started 26 games for the Browns in 2018-2019 after being acquired in a trade from Green Bay for QB DeShone Kizer. His first season in Cleveland went very well but he fell off considerably last year, including five missed games with a concussion.

He signed with the Raiders quickly in free agency, but he failed to impress the Jon Gruden coaching staff. Randall was expected to fill the hole left by fellow safety Karl Joseph leaving in free agency. Joseph ironically wound up taking Randall’s old spot in Cleveland and is a lock to see considerable action for the Browns in 2020.

Damarious Randall signs with the Raiders

Free agent safety Damarious Randall signs with the Raiders after two up-and-down seasons with the Cleveland Browns

Damarious Randall has found a new place to call home. The Browns starting safety for the last two seasons has reached a deal to join the Las Vegas Raiders, per numerous reports.

Randall will take a one-year deal with Jon Gruden’s Raiders, effectively completing a swap for Karl Joseph, who will take over Randall’s old starting role in Cleveland. The 27-year-old spent two years with the Browns after being acquired in a trade for QB DeShone Kizer from the Green Bay Packers.

The 2018 season was very good. Randall switched back to his natural safety spot and thrived with the Browns. Alas, the strong play did not persist into 2019. Randall was less assertive and not around the ball as often in the new-look defense, and his pursuit and tackling angles were the subject of frequent fan–and media–scorn. He also battled injuries and an ejection for a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Touchdown Wire’s top 15 remaining free agents

Free agency might be slowing down, but there are still solid options out there. Who are the 15 best remaining free agents?

NFL free agency seems to be slowing down, but that does not mean there are few options left on the open market. In fact, some of the more interesting options available this off-season remain, including one defender who was hoping to secure a “market setting” contract this spring. As free agency is poised to enter its second week, who are the best options still out there for teams?

(Note: Players who were given the franchise tag but have yet to sign, such as Chris Jones and Joe Thuney, are not included in this list).

Clowney | Winston | Anderson | Perriman | Ryan | Robey-Coleman | Amukamara | Peters | Griffen | Daniels | Wake | Walker | Randall | Harris | Bell

5 remaining free agents for the Giants to consider

The New York Giants have completed most of their work in free agency, but here are five remaining players they could consider.

NFL free agency is all over but the shouting at this point, but there could be a few players who are still available that might pique the New York Giants’ interest over the next few weeks, or beyond.

Here’s five players that the Giants could consider (emphasis on could):

Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

EDGE Everson Griffen

He’s probably way out of their price range at the moment, plus his age (32) would prohibit them from signing him beyond two years. That means Griffen would require a front-loaded contract, and with only $14 million or so remaining in available cap space, he’s probably not coming here.
