NFL draft history: Every player selected with the 30th overall pick since 2000

We’re looking at every No. 30 overall pick selected since the 2000 NFL Draft and the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of landing an impact player.

The Eagles need impact players on both sides of the ball, and with two first-round picks in this month’s draft, Howie Roseman will have another opportunity to add depth to a Super Bowl-caliber roster.

First-round picks are expected to be critical contributors.

The list of No. 30 overall selections has several misses, hits, and a few Hall of Fame-worthy performers.

With the NFL draft fast approaching, we’re looking at every player selected with the 30th pick since 2000.

Colts hold tryout for 7 players

Jahleel Addae and Damarious Randall were among the seven players who worked out for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for seven players on Monday, five of which were defensive backs and the other two players being tight ends, per the league’s transaction wire.

With injuries hitting the cornerback and safety rooms, it’s no surprise the Colts are working out defensive backs. They need to find all the depth they can after BoPete Keyes left with a hamstring injury and Xavier Rhodes played through a calf injury he suffered during pregame warmups.

The players that tried out for the Colts include:

  • S Jahleel Addae
  • TE Nick Eubanks
  • S Rashaan Gaulden
  • CB Isaiah Johnson
  • DB Damarious Randall
  • TE Eli Wolf

It will be interesting to see if any of these players are added to the practice squad as the Colts are currently running with a safety room led by Khari Willis and Andrew Sendejo.

Buffalo Bills hold workout with Damarious Randall

#Bills hold workout with another DB:

It was previously reported that the Buffalo Bills had planned to hold a workout with cornerback Quinton Dunbar. However, it turned out Dunbar was not the only one.

Dunbar’s workout was reported via the NFL’s transactions wire on Tuesday. In addition to him, corner Damarious Randall, who has also featured as a safety in his career, did as well.

Randall, 29, was released by the Seattle Seahawks during their final roster cuts at the end of training camp this summer.

Randall spent the 2020 season on Seattle’s roster, appearing in 10 games as a backup.

He was re-signed by the team earlier this offseason, but the Seahawks ultimately decided to move on from him.

A first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2015, Randall featured as a starter from 2015-2017 with them at cornerback.

Prior to 2018, Randall was traded to the Cleveland Browns, where he featured as a starter for two seasons. That’s when he saw run as a safety.

In his six-year career, Randall has 47 passes defended and 14 interceptions.

In his final season as a starter in 2019, Randall only defended six passes and did not have a pick.

However, he did record the only 2.5 sacks of his career that year and recorded a positive Pro Football Focus grade of 69.3.

In terms of the Bills’ desires with working out cornerbacks, they could just be looking to add depth to their roster or practice squad.

Against the Dolphins, the only cornerback to go down with injury was Levi Wallace, however, he was just dealing with a cramp, the team announced. Nothing serious.

Lions options for replacing Ifeatu Melifonwu at cornerback

It’s not a good time to need CB help around the NFL, but the Lions are in need with injuries to Melifonwu and OIkudah

Already down one starting cornerback, the Detroit Lions suffered another significant blow in the Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Rookie CB Ifeatu Melifonwu left Monday night’s game with a lower-body injury that head coach Dan Campbell deemed significant enough to keep Melifonwu out for some time.

Melifonwu rose up to the starting lineup to replace the injured Jeff Okudah, who is out for the year with a torn Achilles suffered in Week 1. Now the Lions are faced with replacing the replacement, no easy task.

Internal options

Bobby Price took over on Monday night in Green Bay. He’s a work in progress, still converting from safety in his second NFL season. Undrafted rookie Jerry Jacobs saw limited action as well and notably committed an obvious defensive pass interference penalty.

Another rookie, AJ Parker, was the bright spot in the secondary in both games so far. He has primarily been in the slot but could kick outside. The Lions do have veteran slot CB Nickell Robey-Coleman on the practice squad. Signing him to the active 53-man roster seems a foregone conclusion.

The Lions did bring in veteran Daryl Worley to the practice squad late last week. He’s another option to get called up to the active roster now that Worley has had time to settle in a little bit. Detroit also has youngster Parnell Motley on the practice squad at CB.

Quinton Dunbar

The Lions acknowledged they were looking at bringing Dunbar back into the den last week, but nothing has materialized to this point. Dunbar signed with the Lions in the offseason and was a projected starter at outside CB before a personal issue forced him away from the team.

Dunbar has a workout scheduled with the Buffalo Bills, so if the Lions are going to act here, it needs to happen swiftly.

External options

The current crop of unsigned veteran free agent CBs isn’t great, but there are a few who merit at least a workout to see if they might fit.

Richard Sherman has made it known he’s ready to return to action. His offseason legal issues complicate matters for the Lions and head coach Dan Campbell’s “no turd” policy, and Sherman, now 33, has battled injury issues for several seasons as well.

Darqueze Dennard carries some name-value recognition as a former first-round pick (Bengals in 2014) from Michigan State. He’s not played like a first-round talent but does have experience and can play either inside or outside.

Another former first-round pick, Gareon Conley, is also still out there. Conley hasn’t played since 2019, spending 2020 on injured reserve. If the 26-year-old is healthy, and that’s a big “if”, he could help in a pinch like the Lions find themselves in right now.

Damarious Randall is yet another former first-rounder (Green Bay in 2015) who could help. He’s primarily played safety in his NFL career but played CB while with Seattle over the summer and has a cornerback background.

A look at the Seahawks injury updates following Wednesday’s practice

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of injury updates following Wednesday’s training camp practice.

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of injury and personnel updates following Wednesday’s training camp practice.

Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche (groin): “He had a little bit of a groin deal,” Carroll explained. “So we tried him out, let him run around a bit and put him back inside. I think he went back in to get treatment.”

Linebacker Cody Barton (quadriceps): “Cody’s got a quad thing that is bothering him,” Carroll said. “Enough that we gotta hold him back for a couple of days.”

Tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (shoulder): “Little bit of a shoulder thing he felt yesterday,” Carroll explained. “It’s not serious. We are really being cautious with guys when they first feel something so it doesn’t develop.”

Defensive back Damarious Randall: “He’s just feeling his groin tightened up a little bit,” Carroll told reporters. “So it’s just precautionary – he’s not hurt – be we just held him out.”

In non-injury news, linebacker Bobby Wagner returned to the field after missing the last couple of days due to a personal matter. Left tackle Duane Brown and safety Jamal Adams continue to watch from the sidelines.

The Seahawks players have an off day Thursday before resuming work on Friday.

Seahawks CB Damarious Randall’s contract details revealed

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Damarious Randall’s contract details for the 2021 season were recently revealed by ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

Five days after signing with the Seattle Seahawks, cornerback Damarious Randall’s contract details have been revealed. ESPN’s Brady Henderson tweeted that it is a one-year deal worth $1.13 million.

Seattle previously acquired Randall in 2020 and he saw limited action during the season despite being in 10 games. After the season ended, he became a free agent and remained so until the Seahawks signed him earlier this month.

The Seahawks acquired another piece for their secondary at quite a reasonable price. Now to see what they will do in the 2021 draft, which will take place from April 29 to May 1.

Seahawks re-sign defensive back Damarious Randall on Friday

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed defensive back Damarious Randall to the roster. The plan is to move him over to the cornerback position.

The Seattle Seahawks continue to plug away with free agency signings, re-inking defensive back Damarious Randall to the roster on Friday morning.

Randall was originally selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Arizona State, where he played safety. He spent three seasons in Green Bay as a cornerback before he was traded to the Browns and moved back to the safety position.

After some time with the Raiders, Randall was signed to the Seahawks practice squad before he was promoted to the active roster. He played in 10 games in 2020, mostly on special teams.

Seattle plans to move Randall back to the cornerback spot once again.

Seahawks activate safety Damarious Randall from Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Seattle Seahawks have activated safety Damarious Randall back from the Reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of the wild-card playoff matchup.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Wednesday ahead of the wild-card matchup against the Los Angeles Rams scheduled for Saturday at Lumen Field.

Seattle has activated safety Damarious Randall back from the Reserve/COVID-19 list just one day after teammate, tackle Brandon Shell, was also returned to the active roster.

Both players are now available for the playoff game this weekend.

In addition, the Seahawks also signed former University of Washington cornerback Jordan Miller to the practice squad.

Seahawks put Shell, Randall on COVID-19 list, activate Flowers from IR

The Seattle Seahawks have placed Brandon Shell and Damarious Randall on the COVID-19 list and activated Tre Flowers from injured reserve.

The Seattle Seahawks executed a number of roster moves ahead of their regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17.

First, the Seahawks announced tackle Brandon Shell and safety Damarious Randall have been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Shell was added to Friday’s injury report after a “close contact” situation but has tested negative for the coronavirus. No details were given regarding Randall’s status at this time.

In addition to Shell and Randall to the COVID-19 list, Seattle has also activated cornerback Tre Flowers from injured reserve back to the 53-man roster after recovering from a hamstring injury.

“He’s ready to go,” Carroll said Friday. “He had a great week of practice and he’s ready to play.”

Further, the Seahawks have elevated three players from the practice squad: running back Alex Collins, wide receiver Penny Hart and guard Alex Boone. Collins and Hart count as COVID-19 roster replacements and Boone as a standard practice squad elevation.

Finally, running back Carlos Hyde has officially been ruled out for Week 17 with an illness.

Seahawks place Lano Hill on injured reserve, promote Damarious Randall

The Seattle Seahawks have placed safety Lano Hill on injured reserve and promoted Damarious Randall to his spot from the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks are busy adjusting their roster as they return from the bye week, having gotten a more thorough look at the injury situation. On Wednesday, Seattle placed safety Lano Hill on the injured reserve and promoted Damrious Randall to Hill’s spot on the active roster from the practice squad.

Hill had been battling a back injury that coach Pete Carroll had feared could develop into a long-term issue. The safety had missed the last three games for Seattle.

“Lano’s got some issues with his back that haven’t really turned in the right direction,” Carroll had said Monday. “We’re looking after him right now. He’s not ready to come back yet.”

Because Randall had already been elevated twice this season, Seattle had no choice but to sign him to the 53-man roster to continue to utilize his services on game days.

“He’s a good ballplayer and he’s been around us now enough as he’s starting to dig in,” Carroll said of Randall on Monday. “So I’m excited about what he can add.”

Seattle also signed two linebackers to the practice squad on Wednesday, including former Seahawk Mychal Kendricks.
