Nation’s top-ranked CB sets multi-day visit to Florida

The top-ranked cornerback recruit in the country is stopping by the Swamp in March.

Five-star cornerback Cormani McClain is one of the names at the top of Billy Napier‘s recruiting board at Florida, and he’s planning on visiting the university in March.

McClain showed an early interest in Florida under the old staff, but this will be his first chance to meet with the new group in person. His mother told Gators Online that the trip will be a multi-day visit on March 19-20. Napier stopped by Lake Gibson High in January but was only able to speak with coaches due to the NCAA’s recruiting rules.

Florida is competing with Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Ohio State among others for McClain. The Bulldogs and Hurricanes have already brought him on campus in 2022, and he’s set to stop by Alabama on March 5. Michigan is another school in the mix that’s looking to host him next month.

In anticipation of the visit to Gainesville, Napier and members of his staff sent the defensive back a video for his birthday. His mother thanked Gator Nation for the support on social media, and it’s clear that they are treating McClain as a priority target.

Cornerbacks coach and recruiting extraordinaire Corey Raymond is also heavily involved in this one. He helped Napier land five-star safety Kamari Wilson in just a few weeks for the class of 2022.

The 247Sports composite ranks McClain as the No. 1 cornerback in the country and No. 3 overall in the class of 2023.

UGA football cracks top schools for 5-star CB Cormani McClain

The Georgia Bulldogs are among the top schools for five-star defensive back recruit Cormani McClain

The Georgia Bulldogs are among the top schools for five-star defensive back recruit Cormani McClain, who is a member of the class of 2023. McClain is the top-ranked corner in the country and the top-ranked recruit in Florida. McClain is the No. 3 recruit in the country.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back prospect is from Lakeland, Florida, and plays football for Lake Gibson High School. McClain is a junior in high school.

The five-star has scholarship offers from top college football programs like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Penn State, Miami and FSU. The Lake Gibson standout received a scholarship offer from the University of Georgia in Feb. 2021.

McClain has recently visited Georgia, Florida, and BYU. The 2023 cornerback named a top-five in November, but now considers it to be more of a top-eight (per On3).

McClain ranks Alabama, Florida, Miami, Georgia, Oregon, BYU, Ohio State, and Michigan in his top schools. Where will he go?

The five-star exhibits impressive ball-skills. He does a good job of elevating and locating the football as a wide receiver in this video.

McClain plays both wide receiver and defensive back. He played alongside FSU signee Sam McCall last season for Lake Gibson.

5-star CB Cormani McClain adds Oregon Ducks to list of potential schools

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks’ coaching staff seem to be doing a good job of making up ground on the 2023 recruiting cycle.

After securing an impressive 2022 class, Lanning recently picked up a small win this week when 5-star cornerback Cormani McClain expanded his top-5 and included the Ducks. According to On3, McClain’s list now is down to Alabama, Florida, Miami, Georgia, Oregon, BYU, Ohio State, and Michigan.

[lawrence-related id=18382]

According to 247Sports, McClain is ranked as the No. 1 CB in the 2023 class, and the No. 3 player overall. He stands at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Here is what 247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins had to say about McClain:

“Looks the part with long arms and long legs. A two-way athlete with elite ball skills that has produced as a wide receiver, but projects as a cornerback at the next level given how he moves and changes directions,” Ivins said. “Smooth in the backpedal for someone that initially started high school career off playing mostly offense. Quick trigger skills lead to plenty of takeaways.”

It will likely be a while before McClain makes a final decision, but as one of the top players in the 2023 class, you can guarantee that it’s going to be very hyped when he finally does choose his next school.

Florida still in top 6 for this 2023 five-star cornerback

Billy Napier has reached out to Cormani McClain and the top corner of 2023 says Florida is still in his top six.

Gator Nation got some good news from the top cornerback recruit of 2023 after it seemed like Florida was slipping in the race for Cormani McClain.

On Friday, McClain mentioned a handful of visits he was planning on taking in the new year and Florida was notably not on it. Instead, Miami seemed to be the in-state team out in front with a visit on deck. But McClain dropped a new top list before practice with Florida still on it, according to Rivals.

Michigan and Ohio State appear to have made great impressions on McClain so far, and his visits to those schools should only help. The Hurricanes’ hiring of Mario Cristobal also has McClain interested in them, and staying close to home may wind up playing a factor in his recruitment. Florida’s new coach, Billy Napier, has reached out to McClain and appears to be treating him as a priority target.

“I talked to (Napier),” McClain said to Rivals. “I had a great conversation with him. Actually, he’s my coach’s friend. I had a great conversation with him a few days ago. He was telling me I’m a big target for Florida and that the greatest recruits come from Florida.”

There is still plenty of time for McClain to make his decision, but it’s good to see Napier in contact with the top cornerback of 2023 after Florida failed to make the visit list.

Where does Florida stand with the top CB of 2023?

Miami looks like it’s replaced Florida as the in-state leader for this 2023 five-star CB.

Five-star cornerback Cormani McClain had Florida on top of his list when he released his top 5 in August. Months later, it appears that Florida is in nowhere near as good a position as it was before the season.

McClain said that he’s planning on visiting Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma in the coming weeks, according to On3’s Jeremy Johnson. The Swamp isn’t on the list and another in-state program is. Does that mean Florida has lost out entirely on the nation’s best corner in 2023?

Not exactly, but it’s looking like Billy Napier will have to start focusing on McClain if he wants to land him next year. The in-state recruit is calling Miami “like home” right now and has a great relationship with the coaches.

He’s looking to “come in, and start as a freshman” with a good staff behind him. Napier has been meticulous in putting together his staff, including adding defensive backs coach Corey Raymond. Coach Raymond helped Napier and the Gators land five-star Kamari Wilson, so it would make sense for him to take the lead on this elite prospect.

Once the class of 2022 is a bit more settled and there aren’t two or three new hires every day, Napier should be able to give more attention to McClain.

He’s one of just four players to receive a five-star designation from 247Sports, On3, Rivals and ESPN, so it would make sense for Florida to go all out for this in-state recruit.

Nation’s top 2023 cornerback prospect names Florida in top 5

Florida football has a chance to get the best corner in the 2023 recruiting class. The Gators will face tough competition to land the elite athlete, though.

Cormani McClain, the nation’s top cornerback prospect in the class of 2023 according to 247Sports, has named Florida in his top five.

The Gators will compete with Alabama, Ohio State, Miami and Florida State for McClain’s letter of intent. McClain has over a year left to be recruited but Florida is one of the few schools to already have made an impression on the young athlete.

McClain made an unofficial visit to the Swamp in June and met cornerbacks coach Jules Montinar. He came to Gainesville again in late July for the Gators’ Friday Night Lights camp and left with an obvious affection for the school.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 165-pound four-star recruit out of Lake Gibson High (Fla.) used his long arms to pick off nine passes in his sophomore campaign. McClain was initially recruited and offered by cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray, but Montinar has since taken over both jobs.

McClain has made it known that attending a university with a strong reputation for developing defensive backs is important to him. It will be key for Montinar to develop a relationship with the young corner going forward.

“It’s been good,” McClain said to AllGators in June, “but it’s getting closer and better.”

Being in the class of 2023, McClain has been unable to take official visits up until this month. He’s made stops at Florida, FSU, BYU and UCF but he’ll likely take official trips to his top five in the coming year.

With no commitment date set for McClain, Florida will exhaust all efforts to sign the defensive back before an elite school or in-state rival can. If the Gators can get him, he’d be the third top-100 player to join Florida’s 2023 recruiting class.

Ohio State in final five for 5-star 2023 corner from Florida

Still waiting for that first commitment to the 2023 class …

The Ohio State football program has made the cut for one of the best cornerbacks in the 2023 class. At 6-foot, 1-inches, and 165-pounds, Cormani McClain out of Lakeland, Florida, is ranked as the No. 3 cornerback and 20th overall prospect in the recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

His final five schools were released through popular recruiting edit guru Hayes Fawcett, and OSU is among Alabama, Florida, Miami, and Florida State. There’s no mention of a decision looming soon, but if it were to go the Buckeyes’ way, it would be the first commitment for the 2023 class.

Good news would also stem the recent trend of bad news for Ohio State recruiting. Though Ryan Day still has OSU among the top five for the 2022 class, the Buckeyes have lost a couple of commitments over the past week and a half.

As of right now, the crystal ball predictions have McClain leaning heavily towards the Seminoles, but we all know how that can change so early in a prospect’s recruitment.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on any further developments with McClain’s recruitment and where things are headed.
