Former Husker center continues to have impressive preseason

Another impressive preseason outing for the rookie.

A former Husker offensive lineman continues to impress in his first fall camp in the National Football League. Center Cam Jurgens made another big impression on scouts, coaches, fans, and teammates alike with his performance against the Cleveland Browns over the weekend. This isn’t the first time the Beatrice, Nebraska native gave Eagles nation something to be excited about, as his debut against the New York Jets gave fans a reason to look forward to the future.

Current All-Pro Eagles Center Jason Kelce has been singing Jurgens’s praises throughout camp and played a crucial role in getting the Husker center to Philidelphia. Kelce told the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Josh Tolentino that he helped evaluate Jurgens during pre-draft evaluations. He told Tolentino,

“I’m pretty excited about the kid, I liked him a lot. I like his tools. I like his mentality. I think I’ve looked at a few guys the past couple of years when they’ve asked my opinions. He’s here obviously because [offensive line coach] Jeff Stoutland and Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni, all these people, watched his tape and really believe in him. I think, although he does have a lot of similar traits to me, he’s going to be his own player, and I’m looking forward to helping out any of these young guys, in particular Cam.”

The Eagle’s following preseason action is Saturday against the Miami Dolphins. Below is a collection of media and scout evaluations of Jurgens’s plays against Cleveland over the weekend.

Howie Roseman has assembled a deep team in Philadelphia, which will be highlighted by a rookie class that should see plenty of playing time alongside seasoned veterans.

That rookie class won’t be limited to drafted players only, with several undrafted free agents set to see time on the 53-man roster.

With the Eagles on a plane to Cleveland, here is an early ranking of the rookies entering Week 2 of the preseason.

Secret Superstars for Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar has scoured preseason tape, and here are his Secret Superstars for Week 1 of this NFL preseason.

Those party-poopers who tell you that “It’s only the preseason” have never tried to make an NFL team, or grab a starting role, by the skin of their teeth. For more players than not, the three-game stretch before the regular season begins is their best way to prove that they belong on an NFL roster once things get “real.”

Now that Week 1 of the 2022 preseason is in the books, here are the players we think have done the most to create — or enhance — those favorable impressions when they matter the most.

The players on this list are not the obvious names — there are no first-rounders, or players who came into the new season with advanced amounts of hype based on their collegiate or previous NFL exploits. These guys are either trying to stake their claims, or save their careers.

So, let’s take a look at the Secret Superstars of Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason.

Eagles PFF grades: Best and worst from preseason opener vs. Jets

Philadelphia Eagles PFF grades: Best, worst players from preseason opener vs. New York Jets

It was the tail of two halves for the Eagles on Friday night, with the first and second team units dominating the Jets on both sides of the ball as Philadelphia led 14-3 at the half.

Third-year quarterback Jalen Hurts was nearly perfect during his one series, going 6-for-6 passing for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Hurts was among the highest graded quarterbacks in Week 1, while Dallas Goedert, Cam Jurgens, and Zach Pascal made a significant impression on the night.

With Philadelphia set for joint practice sessions with the Browns, PFF released the highest graded players from the preseason opener.

Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster predictions after the first preseason game

The Eagles arrived for the start of the 2022 training camp with several news faces via free agency and an NFL draft class that has produced three likely studs in Jordan Davis, Cam Jurgens, and Nakobe Dean through one week of camp.

Philadelphia finished up offseason workouts, and several players made strides toward securing starting jobs after solid OTA periods and individual sessions.

The Eagles opened the preseason up against the Jets, and after a perfect debut from the starters, Philadelphia lost a late lead and went down 24-21.

With the Birds set for important joint practice sessions with the Browns, here’s an updated 53-man roster prediction after the first preseason game.

10 standouts from the Eagles preseason opener against the Jets

Ten standouts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 24-21 loss to the New York Jets in the preseason opener

The Eagles’ offense started the preseason with a bang, working efficiently and precisely in a first series that saw quarterback Jalen Hurts go 6-6 for 80-yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia’s defense looked remarkably faster with the additions of Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Kyzir White, and James Bradberry, among others.

After holding Zach Wilson and the Jets to 11-yards and one turnover during their series, both units were
replaced by the Eagles’ second unit that previewed the team’s depth on both sides of the ball. Wilson hurt his right knee in the first quarter of New York’s 24-21 preseason victory after scrambling to his right for 7 yards.

Philadelphia will be off on Sunday as the team prepares for joint practices with the Cleveland Browns in Ohio.

Here are ten standouts from week one of the preseason.

Former Husker impresses in first preseason game

The former Nebraska center left a great impression on scouts and fans alike after his first action on the field as a professional.

Former Nebraska center Cam Jurgens made his preseason debut last night, and according to the early reports, he made one heck of a first impression. The former Husker saw his first action in the NFL as the Philadelphia Eagles took on the New York Jets on Friday night. Jurgens had a Nebraska career that culminated in being named Third-Team All-Big Ten (2021, Coaches) as well as a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List (2021). Following his career in Lincoln, he was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft, number 51 overall.

Jurgens made his debut with the 1st team offensive line due to the injury of 4x First-team All-Pro Jason Kelce. Pro Football Focus ranked him number one among the Eagles’ offensive line with 21 pass-blocking snaps, zero sacks allowed, and one total pressure allowed. He also earned a team-high 86.0 run-blocking grade on the first review of the game tape.

Below is a recap of some of the social media reactions from Friday’s game.

Eagles’ Jason Kelce undergoes routine elbow surgery

Philadelphia Eagles’ legendary center Jason Kelce will miss some time to have surgery on his injured elbow

The Eagles are less than a month away from their regular season opener against the Detroit Lions, but they’ll be without one of their leaders for the next few weeks.

Jeff McLane of The Inquirer reports that Jason Kelce has elected to have elbow surgery to clean out the inflamed area.

Kelce missed the Eagles’ Tuesday morning practice due to elbow soreness, and it was at that time that all parties agreed to have the scope done.

Philadelphia’s oldest player on the roster, Kelce, hasn’t missed a game since Chip Kelly’s second season and the last game the future Hall of Famer missed was Oct. 26, 2014, when the Eagles lost 24-20 to the Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz.
