Cassius Winston signs rookie deal with the Washington Wizards

Cassius Winston has inked his first NBA contract with the Washington Wizards. The point guard was selected 53rd overall in the draft.

Cassius Winston has spent the last four years working at Michigan State at his craft of being a point guard. That hard work was paid off last week when the Spartan great was drafted No. 53 overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder and was apart of a draft-night trade to the Washington Wizards.

Winston will look to find his role at the next level with the Wizards. He took the first step earlier today, signing a two-way rookie contract with the team. The two-way deal allows Cassius to get some additional playing time in the G League with the Capital City Go-Go, while still having the opportunity to play with the Wizards at times.

Winston averaged 18.6 points and 5.9 assists his senior year with Michigan State, capping off a spectacular four years in East Lansing. A proven winner and playmaker, Cassius plans to prove doubters wrong when he steps on the NBA court.

Cassius was the second member of the Michigan State basketball family to ink their first NBA contract on Saturday as fellow Spartan draftee Xavier Tillman inked his deal earlier in the day. These two Spartans plan to build on their college success with strong rookie seasons.

[jwplayer uZffHiR1-PROpJzTY]

The long-awaited return of Joshua Langford has finally come, the fifth-year senior is suiting up and starting in the Michigan State season opener against Eastern Michigan. It has been almost two years since Langford has played in a game for Michigan State after injuries took away the back half of the 2018-19 season and all of the 2019-20 season.

The last points Langford scored while wearing the Green and White was on Dec. 29, 2018, when the guard nailed a first-half three-pointer against Northern Illinois.

Langford has six points as the first-half has come to a close in Michigan State’s season opener against the Eagles. Watch the first bucket in Langford’s return here:

HoopsHype: Michigan State alum Xavier Tillman’s NBA player comparisons

HoopsHype gave a list of player comparisons’ to projected first-round draft picks. See who they think Xavier Tillman compares to.

[jwplayer ThHMsta4-PROpJzTY]

With the NBA draft looming, HoopsHype developed a player comparison list for potential first-round picks. Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman, who is projected as a late first-round pick, made the list.

HoopsHype gave Xavier Tillman a couple of lofty comparisons, saying that the MSU big man compares well to Al Horford, Udonis Haslem, and James Johnson. HoopsHype dove in further, explaining their reasoning.

“Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman is known for his intimidating physical presence, his incredible basketball-IQ and his advanced playmaking out of the high post. He has the passing and strength of James Johnson and could carve out a long career in the NBA like Udonis Haslem.”

While I agree with the three names the article gave Tillman, I believe they missed the biggest NBA comparison there is to Tillman, which is Bam Adebayo. Bam’s defensive precense and ability to facilitate in the half-court is very similar to the style of play Tillman will be expected to play.

Michigan State Basketball: Tom Izzo names Josh Langford a starter

Joshua Langford is back and preparing for the 2020-21 season and has been named a starter. The star will have a welcomed return.

[jwplayer ThHMsta4-PROpJzTY]

In a year filled with storylines, most filled with chaos, it is refreshing to finally get something that everyone in Spartan nation can truly smile about. Earlier this week, MSU coach Tom Izzo revealed that Joshua Langford was “as close to 100 percent as he is going to be,” and that the fifth-year senior guard is currently penciled into the starting lineup.

Langford has spent most of the last two seasons sidelined due to injury, a problem that almost cost the Huntsville, Alabama native his basketball career. A concerning situation for Spartan basketball fans all over, it is amazing to see the basketball star preparing for one last run in East Lansing.

Langford’s three-point shooting ability will be a welcomed return to the Spartan’s line-up. The combo guard is a career 40.7 percent shooter from behind the arc. Averaging 10.5 points per game in his career, Langford was having a breakout year in 2018-19 averaging 15 points a game before a foot injury ended his season.

Hearing that Josh Langford is back and preparing for this upcoming season will be very welcoming and exciting for Spartan fans all over.

Michigan State, Breslin Center featured in new NBA 2K21 trailer

Michigan State was heavily featured in the latest trailer of NBA 2K21 along with a player character who resembles Emoni Bates..

[jwplayer vQR35F6E]

In the new version of NBA 2K21’s MyCareer mode, players will be able to journey from being a high school athlete through college before making it to the NBA. In a new trailer released today by the 2K team, Michigan State and the Breslin Center were heavily featured around the college basketball experience.

Interestingly, the player shown in the trailer wears No. 21 as he journeys from high school through college. That’s interesting because that’s the same number that Michigan State Basketball commit Emoni Bates currently wears in high school… Surely that must just be a coincidence…

Ohio State at Michigan State odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Ohio State at Michigan State betting odds and lines, with NCAA matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (21-9, 11-8 Big Ten) travel north to meet the Michigan State Spartans (21-9, 13-6 Big Ten) at Breslin Center Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET in a Big Ten Conference showdown. We analyze the Ohio State-Michigan State odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Ohio State at Michigan State: Three things you need to know

1. It’s been a tale of several seasons for Ohio State. At one point they were nearly the No. 1 team in the land before a loss to Minnesota in mid-December derailed those chances. They had a four-game losing skid, and dropped six of seven, but have since recovered. They enter this game 4-0 straight up and ATS, and they are 6-1 SU/ATS across the past seven.

2. Ohio State’s resume for the NCAA Tournament is bolstered by wins over Maryland, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan (twice), North Carolina, Penn State and Villanova.

3. Michigan State also enters on a four-game winning streak after a slump of their own, which saw Sparty drop four of five from Feb. 1-15, going 0-5 ATS during the skid.

Prediction

Michigan State 74, Ohio State 72

Moneyline (ML)

Michigan State (-295) is just too expensive, as laying nearly three times your potential return makes absolutely no sense. If anything, Ohio State (+230) is worth a roll of the dice, as this could be a very close game. It’s worth a small-unit bet for a nice potential nice return, although I think Sparty comes away with the win.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE (+7, -121) catching seven points in this game is quite a bit, as they enter this game on a roll. Michigan State (-7, even) has also failed to cover each of the past three at home, and they’re 1-3 ATS in the past four when favored by seven or more points. They’re also 3-6 ATS in the past nine contests overall.

You’ll be bucking head-to-head trends a bit, as the home team is 6-2 ATS in the past eight meetings, with the favorite cashing in nine of the past 11 in this series.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 138.5 (+105) is worth a light play on Sunday afternoon. These teams haven’t exactly been offensive juggernauts this season, with MSU posting an ordinary 75.8 PPG and OSU with 72.2 PPG. But lately, these teams have shown a little more offense, and Sparty has hit the Over in four of the past five, and six of the past eight. The Buckeyes are 4-1 on the Over, and 6-2 in their past eight, too.

Iowa at Michigan State college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Iowa Hawkeyes at Michigan State Spartans sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks and tips.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (19-8, 10-6 Big Ten) travel to the Great Lake State on Tuesday to play the Michigan State Spartans (18-9, 10-6) in the Breslin Center at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Iowa-Michigan State odds and betting lines, with college basketball betting advice and tips around this matchup.

The Hawkeyes are No. 17 and the Spartans No. 24 in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll.

Iowa at Michigan State: Three things you need to know

1. The Spartans have had a bumpy February. Michigan State did smack up Nebraska 86-65 in its last game (Thursday), but is just 2-4 overall this month.

2. Iowa’s 10-6 Big Ten record puts them in a five-way tie for second place in the conference. The Hawkeyes have won back-to-back games, beating No. 23 Ohio State Buckeyes 85-76 Thursday and the Minnesota Golden Gophers 58-55 Feb. 16.

3. The matchup to focus on is Iowa C Luka Garza against Michigan State F Xavier Tillman. Garza has caused matchup nightmares for opponents all season and will need to be the focal point of the Spartans defense. He should be a finalist for Big Ten Player of the Year since he leads the Big Ten in points per game, PER and Win Shares.

Prediction

Iowa 80, Michigan State 77

Moneyline (ML)

This is their first meeting of the season, but Michigan State won four straight in the series, three of which by double-digits. However, I give the Hawkeyes a chance to pull off an upset because this Spartans team isn’t as offensively explosive as the previous teams that rolled Iowa. The Hawkeyes have two upperclassmen big men in their starting lineup — Garza and F Ryan Kriener — that both stand taller than any of the Spartans starters. That size advantage could pay dividends for Iowa. Take a flyer on IOWA +310 to win outright.

New to sports betting? Bet $50 to earn a $155 profit if Iowa can score a win.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Iowa has the best ATS in the Big Ten at 16-8-3. Michigan State is near the bottom with a 12-15 ATS record. The Hawkeyes have been a much better ATS vs. good teams than the Spartans; Iowa is 5-2-2 ATS against ranked opponents, while Michigan State is 1-6 ATS. Bet IOWA +7.5 (+100).

Over/Under (O/U)

Let’s go with the OVER 151.5 (-110) since it correlates with our ML and ATS handicaps. Their combined O/U record is 23-29-2, but Iowa has a 9-7 O/U record in Big Ten games. Also, the Hawkeyes are 6-3 O/U against ranked opponents and the Over has cashed in four of their last five games.
