Every few years, there is a player at the high school level who has everyone buzzing. Zion Williamson, Kevin Durant, Lebron James are some of these players. The latest is Michigan State Basketball commit Emoni Bates, who currently plays for Ypsi Prep will fellow future Spartan Jaden Akins.

Bates and Akins both played against Duncanville on Saturday night in the American Airlines Center (home of the Dallas Mavericks), and while Ypsi wasn’t able to pull out the win, Bates put on one heck of a show in Texas.

You can watch his highlights below:

Emoni Bates is back on the hardwood tonight as Ypsi Prep travels to the Lone Star state to take on the Panthers of Duncanville High School. This is the second game of Ypsi Prep’s season after the Bulldogs fell to Team Sizzle on Nov. 12.

Emoni Bates and fellow Michigan State recruit Jaden Akins will have another tough challenge containing and keeping pace with Duncanville star Ronald Holland who is a top 20 5-star prospect in the class of 2023. This is something that Ypsi Prep is going to deal with all season long, meeting with the number one player in the 2021 class Chet Holmgren.

Saturday’s game can be watched on two different online streaming services (FloHoops, SUVtv). Both streaming services require a subscription, starting at $10. The game will start at 9 p.m. eastern time.

Emoni Bates and Jaden Akins will look to give Spartan fans even more reasons to be excited for the future of basketball in East Lansing.

Emoni Bates and Jaden Akins standout, but lose in competitive exhibition on ESPN2

Michigan State commits and Ypsi Prep stars Emoni Bates and Jaden Akins scored big, but came up with a loss in Thursday’s exhibition.

On Thursday night, many Michigan State Basketball fans finally got their first look at two future Spartans: Emoni Bates and Jaden Akins. Bates and Akins both suited up for Ypsi Prep’s game against Team Sizzle and 5-star center (who is also kind of a point guard?) Chet Holmgren. Bates and Akins both scored in double-figures but lost 78-71 in what was ultimately a fun, competitive exhibition.

Bates finished with 36 points and he hit four three-pointers on the night. He also added a pretty fun dunk in the first half, which you can check out here. Akins added 17 points and, in my opinion, looked extremely polished in the game.

Some more Jaden Akins highlights for you:

Team Sizzle star Chet Holmgren attracted a lot of attention throughout the game, recording 31 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocked shots on the night.

Aside from all their talent, I will say that watching Bates and Holmgren guard each other was uniquely funny just because both players are notoriously skinny. To me, it looked like watching two of the ‘wacky, inflatable tube men’ play basketball, which I remarked on during the game:

Bronny James game vs. Emoni Bates to air Nov. 21 on Fox Sports 1

The showdown between Ypsi Prep and CBC will air on Fox Sports 1 on November 21.

For a while, it was looking like the showdown between Emoni Bates’ Ypsi Prep and Bronny James CBC on Nov. 21 would be the biggest basketball news when it happens but even as it will now be happening in the midst of what projects to be a chaotic NBA free agency, the game is going to be broadcast to a national audience.

Adam Zagoria, writing for ZagsBlog, reported earlier this week that the Bates-Bronny showdown in Texas scheduled for a few days from now will air on Fox Sports 1. Bronny’s teammate Amari Bailey is the No. 4 ranked recruit in the class of 2022.

The game is part of a tournament that is sponsored, in part, by Lakers guard Danny Green. It remains to be seen whether LeBron himself will go to the game, or how many people will be allowed to watch the game, given the current state of the pandemic.

NBA free agency starts on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
