2023 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: The latest projections after the draft lottery

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the lottery.

The order of the 2023 NBA draft was decided this week by the lottery, and the San Antonio Spurs received the No. 1 pick for the third time in franchise history.

Of course, that means the Spurs will have the first opportunity to select 7-foot-4 French phenom Victor Wembanyama. They are apparently the team he had his sights set on, and he will now likely look to continue his basketball journey in San Antonio.

Elsewhere, Charlotte and Portland made jumps in their lottery positioning, and they now have more options to consider on draft night. Detroit dropped the furthest from No. 1 by virtue of having the worst record to No. 5.

With the order set, teams will ramp up their draft preparations.

This week, the league converged in Chicago for the G League Elite Camp and draft combine. Though many prospects skipped the 5-on-5 scrimmages and other testing, several seemingly helped themselves with great showings on the court.

Teams will continue to prioritize seeing those individuals that declared as early entrants since the deadline for them to return to school is May 31. Several prospects will have tough decisions to make in the coming days but should have more clarity after the combine.

Rookie Wire took a look at where the draft stands following the lottery. It is important to note that team needs were not necessarily taken into account with each pick. The projections are rather a look at where each individual player stands at this point of the process.

Report: Wake Forest’s Bobi Klintman has withdrawn from the draft combine

Klintman averaged 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds on 36.8% shooting from 3-point range in 33 games.

Wake Forest freshman Bobi Klintman reportedly withdrew from the NBA draft combine and informed the program he will not return to school, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

Klintman was among the 78 prospects invited to participate in the annual scouting event, which started Monday in Chicago, Illinois. He initially declared for the draft with the option to return to school, but will now apparently keep his name in and forgo his remaining eligibility.

The 6-foot-10 forward has climbed draft boards early in the process given his size and potential. By withdrawing from the combine, it is possible that Klintman has secured a first-round draft promise from a team.

Klintman, who was born in Malmo, Sweden, averaged 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds on 36.8% shooting from 3-point range. He became the first Wake Forest freshman since Tim Duncan in 1994 to record a double-double in the ACC Tournament (17 points, 11 rebounds).

He is viewed as one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft. His counting stats don’t necessarily jump off the page, but he can do a little bit of everything. He is still raw in terms of his ability, but developing in an NBA system will certainly help him in the future.

The move to opt out of the combine will create plenty of speculation regarding a potential draft promise. It will be something to monitor as the draft approaches on June 22.

NBA draft combine 2023: A complete tracker of player invitations

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have earned invitations to compete in the NBA draft combine and G League Elite Camp.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects work toward achieving the ultimate goal of hearing their names called by Commissioner Adam Silver on June 22.

Reports are beginning to surface of prospects receiving invitations to compete in the draft combine on May 15-21 in Chicago, Illinois. Each year, teams submit a list of players they would like to see invited, typically those with the highest odds of getting drafted.

The event features 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects have the opportunity to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers.

Last year, 76 players were announced as participants in the event.

The G League Elite Camp will take place in Chicago on May 13-14 with players competing in front of NBA and G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives. The top performers will also be invited to perform in the draft combine.

The official list of participants for both events has yet to be unveiled.

Those underclassmen that filed as early entry candidates will also have the chance to interview with teams and gain feedback on their draft positioning. The information will be helpful in forming their decisions on staying in the draft or returning to school before the May 31 deadline.

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have reportedly earned invitations to compete in the combine and G League Elite Camp. The list will be updated as more names emerge.

Notre Dame falls victim to Wake Forest 3-point barrage in second half

Aren’t the Irish supposed to be the better team from downtown?

SOUTH BEND – A team like Notre Dame that is built for the perimeter only can succeed if that part of its game works. When it doesn’t, things can get very bad very quickly. What’s worse is when the opposition throws that same game back in the team’s face. That’s what Wake Forest did to defeat the Irish, 81-64.

Initially, the Irish (10-13, 2-10) took advantage of a flurry of turnovers committed by the Demon Deacons (15-9, 7-6) to go up, 16-4. Then, the Deacons worked their way back to take a one-point halftime lead. This had all the makings of a game that would go down to the wire. Then, the second half began.

Paced by the hot shooting hand of Damari Monsanto, the Deacons made five of their first six 3-point attempts in the second half to quickly expand their lead to 13. Monsanto had made three 3s late in the first half to break up a 3-point drought by both teams, so he merely picked up where he left off. He entered this game as the third-best 3-point shooter in the ACC with a percentage of .400.

Meanwhile, the Irish kept missing shots from downtown, ultimately coming up empty on their first 10 3-point attempts. By the time they got anything going from that range, and it still wasn’t much consider they finished 4 of 21 from there, it was too little and far too late.

Monsanto did the most damage for the Deacons, scoring 24 of his career-high 28 points on eight 3-pointers and also grabbing six rebounds. Tyree Appleby, one of the conference’s best passers, flirted with a triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Bobi Klintman had 10 points off the bench on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting day.

[autotag]Nate Laszewski[/autotag] was well-rounded in the losing effort with 18 points and seven rebounds. [autotag]Cormac Ryan[/autotag] scored 12, and [autotag]Marcus Hammond[/autotag] added 10. Perhaps if [autotag]Demetrius Jackson[/autotag] and [autotag]Eric Atkins[/autotag], who were in attendance for this game, were able to suit up, they could have made the game a little closer.

Ex-Buffs commit Bobi Klintman now heads to Wake Forest

After having to recently de-commit from Colorado, Bobi Klintman is now headed to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons

The Colorado Buffaloes basketball team landed a commitment from Bobi Klintman in April after he previously de-committed from Maryland.

However, that didn’t last long, and due to what Tad Boyle called “unforeseen circumstances,” Klintman was forced to de-commit from the Buffs in early May.

Now, Klintman has decided to head to the ACC and play for Wake Forest, according to a social media post from Klintman himself.

It was a mess of a situation, and losing a player as highly ranked as Klintman (he is ranked No. 123 in the class of 2022), isn’t what the Buffs were hoping for.

So, for those keeping track, this is now the third commitment for Klintman, and for his sake, hopefully the last.

The four-star big man was set to be a major force for the Buffs, especially if Jabari Walker lands in the NBA (that appears to be up in the air still).

Unfortunately, though, Klintman is headed to the Demon Deacons and should be a massive contributor to Wake Forest for the foreseeable future.

Even with the Buffs’ loss of Klintman, their roster in 2022-2023 still has a ton of talent, and if they can convince Walker to return, they will be even more dangerous next season in the Pac-12.

Swedish four-star forward Bobi Klintman commits to CU Buffs

Tad Boyle and company gained a four-star forward in Bobi Klintman

Thursday was a wonderful day for Colorado basketball. In likely preparation for the departure of Jabari Walker, head coach Tad Boyle was able to secure a commitment from four-star forward Bobi Klintman. The 6-foot-9, 200-pound native of Sweden is set to join the Buffs next season alongside fellow incoming freshmen Joe Hurlburt and RJ Smith.

Klintman was previously committed to Maryland but upon the resignation of former Terrapins head coach Mark Turgeon in December, he reopened his recruitment. He had also received offers from Arizona State, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming, among several others.

According to 24/7 High School Hoops, Klintman is a stretch forward with strong shooting skills and the ability to score in the post.

Also on Thursday, Princeton graduate transfer Ethan Wright announced his commitment to Colorado. So, it wasn’t a bad day in Boulder.

Bobi Klintman has Rutgers in his final six

Rutgers basketball is in the final six for Swedish forward Bobi Klintman.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fc3gzhz7qrm49z6q player_id=none image=https://rutgerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Bobi Klintman has Rutgers basketball in his top six, the small forward from Sweden including the Scarlet Knights as he pared down his list this week.

Listed as 6-foot-8 and 200 pounds, Klintman is a three-star prospect according to Rivals. His list of six programs includes Rutgers, Big Ten rival Maryland as well as Kansas, Virginia, Texas A&M and Loyola-Chicago.

For Rutgers basketball, it is an interesting development as the class of 2022 has a solid core including three-star guard Derek Simpson and three-star forward Braeden Moore. Both players committed to the Scarlet Knights over this past summer. Simpson is considered a late bloomer and Moore had a very solid offer list when he chose Rutgers.

In terms of fit, Klintman seems ideal for head coach Steve Pikiell’s system. He boasts good length, rebounds well and plays good defense. He has the ability to shoot from behind the arc and he is a good distributor of the ball.

Perhaps helping in this recruitment for Rutgers is forward Oskar Palmquist. A member of Sweden’s U20 national team, Palmquist joined the program in 2019 and was a redshirt. Last year, he appeared in 12 games and showed some promise as a shooter.
