Colorado to release four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa from NLI

Colorado and four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa have agreed to part ways

About three months after signing his national letter of intent, Doryan Onwuchekwa and the Colorado men’s basketball program have agreed to part ways. Both parties announced on Friday that the class of 2024 prospect will be granted a release from his NLI.

Onwuchekwa, a 6-foot-10 center from Texas’ Faith Family Academy, is considered a four-star prospect on most recruiting websites. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 18 center and the No. 110 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Per 247Sports, Onwuchekwa received an offer from CU last June before committing to head coach Tad Boyle’s program in September. He then took fall visits to Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Xavier before signing his NLI on Nov. 8.

Colorado’s 2024 signing class is now down to three members: four-star in-state combo guard Andrew Crawford, three-star California power forward Sebastian Rancik and three-star shooting guard Felix Kossaras, who hails from the Canadian province of Ontario.

Four-star PG Jeremiah Green places Colorado in top 10 schools

Four-star point guard Jeremiah Green named Colorado to his list of top schools

Class of 2025 four-star point guard Jeremiah Green announced his top 10 schools on Saturday, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Along with Colorado, four other Big 12 men’s basketball programs made his list: Kansas, Kansas State, Houston and TCU. His remaining schools included Texas A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.

Green, a 6-foot-3 point guard, is the top-ranked 2025 prospect in Texas, per 247sports. This season, he has been leading the backcourt of Sunrise Christian Prep and recently dropped a 19-point, 11-assist game at the Hoophall Classic on Jan. 15.

In an interview with On3, the top-60 national recruit spoke on what he’s searching for in a college program:

“Somewhere I could go make an impact immediately. Somewhere that they feel comfortable going through the highs and lows with me and somewhere I feel like I could develop the most and give it the best chance to go to league.”

As seen with projected lottery pick Cody Williams this season, CU men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle has allowed top talent to thrive in Boulder.

Boyle is still searching for his first 2025 commit.

REPORT: Colorado expressing interest in 2025 combo guard Kaleb Evans

Colorado is reportedly interested in a 6-foot-3 combo guard from South Carolina

The CU men’s basketball team has become a popular destination for both high school prospects and transfer players. With Cody Williams now in Boulder, there is some considerable buzz around the Buffs.

Now, Colorado is one of a handful of programs that have shown interest in class of 2025 combo guard Kaleb Evans from Lexington High School in South Carolina. Other programs that have expressed interest include Appalachian State, Winthrop, Virginia Tech and his home state South Carolina Gamecocks, per Dino Siervo.

The Buffs also recently brought in 2024 four-star player Robert Miller for a visit, so Tad Boyle is keeping an eye on the future.

Evans is 6-foot-3, 170 pounds and can play both guard positions.

His highlight reel is impressive, and he will only get better as he progresses through his final two high school seasons.

Colorado extended an offer to the 2024 Idaho girls basketball Gatorade Player of the Year

Avery Howell, the top-rated 2024 prospect in Idaho, announced an offer from Colorado on Sunday.

As a junior at Boise High School, Howell averaged over 20 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists while earning the prestigious 2024 Idaho girls basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.

Now, the 5-foot-11 guard is building a lengthy offers list that includes Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Clemson, West Virginia, Wisconsin and others with Colorado being the latest.

Howell is the No. 45 ranked prospect in the 2024 class, per ESPN.

Other notable prospects to receive an offer from the Buffs this offseason include 2025 California guard Carly Amborn and 2026 Missouri guard Addison Bjorn, who’s currently hooping for the USA Basketball U16 National Team.

CU men’s basketball target, in-state prospect Andrew Crawford selects commitment date

ThunderRidge combo guard Andrew Crawford is a top 2024 target for Colorado

Andrew Crawford, the No. 18 ranked 2024 combo guard, lives in the Buffs’ backyard and has been developing a strong relationship with head coach Tad Boyle’s staff.

The ThunderRidge (Littleton) senior took an official visit to CU last October, was offered in December and recently returned to Boulder for the Buffaloes’ high school team camp, per Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.

“I have been under the weather a little bit the past couple weeks but I still had a great outing at CU’s camp,” Crawford told BuffStampede. “I love it up there. They really like me and have always shown me great hospitality.”

Crawford, who is also being recruited by Northwestern and Stanford, is now nearing a commitment. He’ll continue speaking with different college coaching staffs across the country this summer and he plans on announcing his pledge on his birthday, Oct. 14, according to Munsterteiger.

CU Buffs women’s basketball offers 2025 guard Carly Amborn

Colorado became the latest Pac-12 school to offer 2025 guard Carly Amborn

Fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance, head coach JR Payne and her staff are getting after it this summer on the recruiting trail.

One of the latest high school prospects to receive a Colorado women’s basketball offer is Carly Amborn, a class of 2025 guard out of California. She’s currently running with Jason Kidd Select and has received a slew of other recent offers from UC Santa Barbara, Washington, Maryland, Tulsa, Utah, San Jose State and Cal. The 6-foot-1 Amborn also took an unofficial visit with the Huskies in late May.

The Buffs’ backcourt is currently in strong shape with Jaylyn Sherrod and Kindyll Wetta returning, but Amborn is a strong candidate to continue Colorado’s recent success at the guard position.

CU Buffs hosting four-star power forward Robert Miller

Colorado is hosting one of the top 2024 prospects in Texas

It likely won’t be long before the Colorado men’s basketball program secures its first class of 2024 commitment.

Four-star power forward Robert Miller is a potential candidate as he began a three-day official visit on Friday. Miller is the No. 4 ranked 2024 prospect in Texas and the No. 11 power forward nationwide, per the 247Sports Composite.

In addition to Colorado, Miller has received offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Kansas State, TCU, Washington State, Cal, Alabama, Houston, Oklahoma and SMU.

If the Buffs are able to land Miller, his 6-foot-10 presence could be a nice complement to incoming freshman center Assane Diop, who’s listed at the same height.

Fellow 2024 Texas big man Doryan Onwuchekwa is also taking an official recruiting visit to Boulder this weekend.

CU men’s basketball offers 6-foot-10 prospect Bangot Dak

Colorado extended an offer to rising 2024 prospect Bangot Dak

The Colorado men’s basketball team already has a ton of excitement with Cody Williams entering this fall. Now, the Buffs are sending out more offers as head coach Tad Boyle and his staff try to return to the NCAA Tournament and compete in the tough Pac-12.

On Wednesday, the Buffs offered class of 2024 center Bangot Dak, and the strong defensive player comes with a world of hype. He played at Lincoln Southeast High School in Nebraska and is now committed to a post-grad season at Sunrise Christian Academy.

Here’s a brief snippet on Dak, courtesy of The Lincoln Journal Star’s Chris Basnett:

A 6-foot-9 rim protector with the ability to guard on the perimeter, Dak could be the best defensive player in the Class A field. He blocks 2.3 shots per game, and alters several more than that for the Knights, while averaging 11.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

Dak lists himself at 6-foot-10 on his Twitter, however.

While Colorado is his biggest suitor yet, he also received a recent offer from Division I Purdue-Fort Wayne.

CU women’s basketball offers rising Missouri prospect Addison Bjorn

Colorado and Stanford are both in the hunt for MaxPreps Freshman All-American Addison Bjorn

The Colorado women’s basketball team won’t look the same after this next season with Jaylyn Sherrod, Quay Miller and possibly Frida Formann (we’ll see if she takes the COVID-19 extra year) all departing. I’m not sure if it’ll constitute a full rebuild, but these next couple of recruiting classes are critical.

As we learned Wednesday, assistant coach/defensive mastermind Toriano Towns is pursuing one of the top 2026 guards in Addison Bjorn. The Missouri prospect announced via Twitter that she spoke with Towns and received an offer from Colorado.

Ole Miss, Maryland, Ohio State, Pitt and perhaps most notably Stanford have also extended recent offers.

Following her first season at Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Missouri, Bjorn was named a MaxPreps Freshman All-American. Here’s what Aaron Williams of MaxPreps wrote on Bjorn:

A double-digit scorer in all but two games, she helped the Panthers to a 25-4 mark and Class 6 quarterfinals appearance. She averaged 18.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per night.

Colorado hosts four-star class of 2024 forward Sebastian Rancik on an official visit

Colorado hosted four-star recruit Sebastian Rancik on an official visit

Recruiting is almost non-stop when it comes to college sports, and the CU Buffs men’s basketball program is hard at work trying to add to its 2024 class.

Sebastian Rancik is head coach Tad Boyle’s latest target, and he recently got the opportunity to check out Boulder for himself.

On Thursday, Rancik posted pictures from his official visit rocking Buffaloes gear. The 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward is considered a four-star recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports. A native of Slovenia, he has been playing his high school ball in California at JSerra Catholic.

CU faces some competition within the Pac-12 for the services of Rancik as he holds offers from Arizona State, UCLA and USC.
