Mike Bobo talks Benjamin Yurosek

Georgia football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo evaluates how key former Stanford tight end is adapting with the team

Georgia Bulldogs senior tight end Benjamin Yurosek is primed to emerge as a key passing target for quarterback Carson Beck. Yurosek, who transferred to Georgia from Stanford, has over 1,000 career receiving yards.

Yurosek brings a great combination of size and experience to the Dawgs, but he’s still learning the Georgia offense. Yurosek joined the Bulldogs over the summer and did not go through spring practice.

“So, he’s a little bit behind, but he’s very intelligent,” said Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. “He’s done a great job of continuing to get in the playbook, and we’re asking him to do things that maybe he didn’t do at Stanford.”

Georgia’s tight end room has solid depth for the 2024 season with Yurosek, Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie. Delp is expected to be Georgia’s top tight end this fall.

“Oscar (Delp) is the unquestioned leader of our room,” said tight ends coach Todd Hartley. Hartley considers Delp to be a strong blocker, which should help him play a lot of snaps.

However, Benjamin Yurosek brings versatility to Georgia’s tight ends group. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end recorded 16 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown in 2023 (despite missing six games). He also added 11 carries for 53 yards for a Stanford team that struggled offensively. He was named an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection for his efforts in 2023.

Yurosek could play in a role in helping Georgia replace Brock Bowers. Yurosek has the chops to churn out yardage after the catch, which was one of Brock Bowers’ elite traits.

“You saw Ben (Yurosek) make plays on the perimeter,” said Mike Bobo. “You saw Ben make plays downfield.”

Yurosek may be a late addition for Georgia, but he’s not someone who Bulldogs fans should forget about.

Stanford transfer Benjamin Yurosek named No. 4 returning TE in CFB

PFF thinks highly of Georgia’s new tight end.

Georgia’s upcoming spring practice will feature an interesting storyline at the tight end position with the departure of standout Brock Bowers. The three-time All-American and two-time Mackey Award winner is headed to the 2024 NFL draft with a first-round grade.

While replacing a talent like Bowers is a tall order, the Bulldogs have some promising options at tight end. Junior Oscar Delp, who served as Bowers’ backup last season, is coming off his best season yet with 24 catches for 284 yards and three touchdowns. Delp is expected to step into Bowers’ shoes, but the addition of Stanford transfer Benjamin Yurosek adds a unique change of pace.

Yurosek (6-foot-4, 242 pounds) signed with the Bulldogs as a graduate transfer this offseason. Pro Football Focus ranks Yurosek as the fourth-best tight end in the nation for the upcoming season. Michigan‘s Colston Loveland comes in at No. 1, Notre Dame‘s Mitchell Evans at No. 2, and Utah’s Brant Kuithe at No. 3, per PFF.

“Yurosek is the first of four tight ends mentioned in this article who’ll be playing for a new school in 2024, transferring to Georgia from Stanford in February. The senior had a disappointing last couple seasons for the Cardinal. In 2022, his PFF receiving grade dropped by nearly 15 points compared to what it was the year prior (65.5 compared to 79.9). In 2023, he missed the final six games of the season with a shoulder injury.

He deserves a high placement on this list for what he accomplished as a sophomore. In 2021, he was named first-team All-Pac-12 by PFF and was fourth among Power Five tight ends that year with 335 yards after the catch. Despite a lackluster last couple of seasons, Yurosek’s 1,338 receiving yards since 2021 lead all returning tight ends in college football. The only three who had more in that stretch were Bowers, Michael Mayer and Dalton Kincaid. After dealing with one of the worst quarterback situations at Stanford, Yurosek will be catching passes from the top returning signal-caller in the nation next year in Carson Beck.” — PFF

In addition to Delp and Yurosek, Georgia’s tight end room boasts sophomores Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin, along with four-star recruit Jaden Reddell from the top-ranked 2024 class. We should get a better idea of how the Bulldogs will use the rotation by the end of spring practice.

Spring practice kicks off on Tuesday, March 12 and will culminate with the annual G-Day spring game on Saturday, April 13 in Sanford Stadium.

Social media reacts: Former All-Pac-12 TE transfers to Georgia

Georgia football is adding a major transfer in All-Pac-12 Stanford tight end Benjamin Yurosek

Graduate transfer tight end Benjamin Yurosek announced he is transferring to the Georgia Bulldogs. Yurosek, who has over 100 career receptions and 1,000 career receiving yards, started his college football career at Stanford before transferring to Georgia.

Yurosek is the No. 6 transfer tight end in the country and the No. 101 transfer recruit. The former Stanford tight end is a four-star transfer per 247Sports.

Last season, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end recorded 16 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown. Yurosek missed several games in 2023 due to injury, but he was named as an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection.

Yurosek accumulated 42 catches for a career-high 653 yards and three touchdowns in 2021. Pro Football Focus named him to its All-Pac-12 first team for his outstanding 2021 campaign.

Georgia football social media is excited to land another talented transfer ahead of the 2024 college football season:

Stanford tight end Benjamin Yurosek transfers to Georgia football

Stanford Cardinal senior tight end Benjamin Yurosek, who is a former All-Pac-12 selection, has committed to Georgia football

Former Stanford Cardinal senior tight end Benjamin Yurosek has announced that he is transferring to the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia’s tight end room is looking very deep for the 2024 season with Yurosek, Oscar Delp, Lawson Luckie, and Pearce Spurlin.

Benjamin Yurosek, who has over 1,000 career receiving yards, visited Georgia’s campus on the weekend of Jan. 13, per a report. Yurosek brings a great combination of size and experience to the Dawgs.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end recorded 16 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown in 2023. He also added 11 carries for 53 yards. Stanford struggled in its final season in the Pac-12; the Cardinal finished 3-9 in 2023.

Yurosek is a graduate transfer and a former four-star recruit. He was named an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection for his efforts in 2023. Unfortunately for Yurosek, he suffered an injury against Colorado and was only able to play in six games last season.

Yurosek recorded a 42 catches for a career-high 653 yards and three touchdowns in 2021. Pro Football Focus named him to its All-Pac-12 first team for his outstanding 2021 campaign. Yurosek had another solid year at Stanford in 2022 when he produced 49 receptions, 445 receiving yards and one touchdown reception.

The talented Stanford tight end will likely see immediate playing time at Georgia. Yurosek is capable of competing with Oscar Delp for the No. 1 tight end role at Georgia, but we would expect him to be Georgia’s No. 2 option this fall.

Most intriguing transfer portal options at tight end for Ohio State

Most intriguing transfer portal options at tight end for Ohio State #GoBucks

We already broke down our expectations for how Ohio State could handle the quarterback position and then dived into the possible running backs and most recently covered the wide receiver position (if things break a certain way), but I also wanted to take a look at the available wide receivers in the transfer portal.

With Cade Stover out the door, the Buckeyes are left with an underwhelming Gee Scott Jr. and inexperienced Jelani Thurman. Scott was a former highly-rated recruit and played well towards the end of the season. Still, with the tight end position playing such a prominent role recently, Ohio State may explore the portal to find a more experienced playmaker to replace Stover.

There are a few intriguing pieces that can help, but most of the prominent stars who entered have committed to new teams already. The following are the top five most interesting tight ends that the Buckeyes could reach out to.

Stanford statistical leaders through 11 games

The Irish can’t lose to this team, right?

Stanford is trying to salvage something out of its season. Even its win over Coach Prime and Colorado has become lessened by the fact that Buffaloes turned out not to be much better than the Cardinal. A victory over Notre Dame would by far be the signature of their season. That won’t be easy though.

There are a few talented players on the Cardinal, but they only can do so much to make up for their shortcomings. For instance, the offense lives off the pass to the point where the quarterbacks actually are the top rushers. For our purposes though, we’re discounting them in that category for this listicle. That alone should speak volumes about the Cardinal.

It’s no surprise that a team with this many shortcomings has dragged the Irish to the dying Pac-12 Network for its final live football game. If it somehow pulls off the upset, here are the players most likely to factor in:

After four games it seems Stanford has finally found a quarterback

Stanford has had a lot of issues on offense, but it seems as if quarterback Ashton Daniels has taken the reins from Justin Lamson.

The old football adage is when you have two quarterbacks, you really have no quarterbacks.

That might be the case for Stanford this season as first-year head coach Troy Taylor is making his way through the year. Ashton Daniels and Justin Lamson have split time behind center, but in the 21-20 loss to Arizona, Daniels took most of the snaps and it looks like he’s QB1 for now.

Going with Daniels, a 6-foot-2 215-pounder from Buford, GA, would seem like the smart decision. Daniels is completing nearly 60 percent of his passes and the Cardinal are gaining on average 12 yards per completion.

His favorite target, and deservingly so, is tight end Benjamin Yurosek. He was a Second-Teamer last season and the media selected the big 6-4, 248-pounder as a preseason First-Team All-Pac-12 player.

Although every defense knows Yurosek is Stanford’s No. 1 target for whoever is throwing the ball, he still leads the team with 15 catches, 247 yards and a score.

Stanford’s run game is better than what Colorado showed the Ducks, but not by a lot. Tailback Casey Filkins leads the way with 46 yards per game and a touchdown.

This game will feature a below-average offense that will face one of the Pac-12 best defenses. That equation should be bad news for Stanford. But the Ducks still have to do their job at the end of the day.

“I mean this is a bring-your-own juice game, It’s gonna be a different atmosphere,” Lanning said. “But if you step on the grass and it means something to you, you’re gonna step on there and try to perform to a certain level because you have pride in the game.”

Along the offensive front, Stanford had one of the biggest lines in the country. Those days are over. The biggest starting lineman is the center Levi Rogers at 301 pounds. We all saw what the Ducks do to an undersized line and it’s not pretty.

Week 2 Scouting Notebook: A look at potential Chargers prospects in 2024 NFL draft

Here are a handful of prospects for Chargers fans to watch in Week 2.

The second week of college football is here, which means we are back with another edition of the Scouting Notebook.

The Scouting Notebook will feature prospects to keep an eye on throughout the day. While some may think it’s too early to start talking about the 2024 NFL draft, there’s never a bad time to talk about the future of the Chargers.

With that being said, here are a handful of prospects to watch for in Week 2.

New Year, new mock: Browns land Josh Downs, Byron Young in 2023 NFL Mock Draft

The Browns land a high-profile playmaker in this New Year’s Eve mock draft

With just two weeks left in the season, and with the Cleveland Browns getting set to take on the Washington Commanders on New Year’s Day, we are officially nearing 2023 NFL Draft territory. And as we ramp up to draft activities, more mock drafts will come out as well. Celebrate the New Year with this 2023 NFL Mock Draft for the Browns!

Even without a first round pick, the Browns have eight draft picks to work with. Defensive tackle is a big need for the Browns, but so is wide receiver as they look to incorporate more air raid concepts into their offense in 2023. They address both of those positions early in this mock draft as they look to add talent to their underachieving roster.

Enjoy!

Notre Dame at Stanford: Fourth-Quarter Analysis

Now, we wait.

Did Notre Dame let up in the fourth quarter of its regular-season finale against Stanford? Maybe a tiny bit, but it had enough of a cushion that it was able to do that. While it may not have been the best look, the result of the game will speak volumes enough. The Irish now will await their College Football Playoff fate after a 45-14 win.

Tyler Buchner got a turn at quarterback in the fourth quarter and made the most of it right away with a 33-yard touchdown run. Although the Irish (11-1) had the game well in hand at that point, there still was football to play. The Cardinal (3-9) decided they had something to prove, and everyone saw that when Tanner McKee responded with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Benjamin Yurosek. While that was slightly concerning, there hardly was cause for alarm from the Irish’s perspective.

After the Irish punted on their next possession, the Cardinal put another nice drive together and got across midfield. Just when it appeared the drive would reach the red zone, Clarence Lewis forced a fumble by Michael Wilson after a 19-yard reception, and Justin Ademilola had his second recovery of the game. It reflected the kind of season it’s been for the hosts.

The Irish began driving again, mainly thanks once again to Jack Coan. They got a boost when an offside penalty was called right before they went for it on fourth down. The break paid off when Kyren Williams eventually ran for a 12-yard touchdown, the Irish’s final score of the regular season. With their statement made, they can rest up knowing they’ve done everything they can to make their case for more meaningful football this season.
