Coach Prime’s first full class at Colorado finished where!?!

Buzz, your girlfriend…

Just before the early signing period a year ago Notre Dame lost running back Dylan Edwards to Colorado.  Edwards shined in his first game for Colorado this year, scoring four touchdowns in Colorado’s upset of TCU back in September.

The season didn’t go as well the rest of the year for Edwards or Colorado head coach Deion Sanders as Edwards found the end zone just twice more and the Buffaloes finished the year 4-8 overall.

This year was better for Notre Dame as they didn’t have any last-minute departures from the class.  Colorado also didn’t end up pulling off flips anywhere like they did a year ago.

So with the early signing period open and the vast majority of commitments in, where did Colorado finish up in the rankings to close the first full class Deion Sanders was able to recruit?

98th on the 247Sports composite rankings.

You read that correctly.

98th.

If you’re curious, that’s exactly one spot behind Eastern Michigan and one ahead of South Alabama.

Sure Colorado landed arguably the most talent of any program through the transfer portal this off-season but its certainly not the recruiting class that Sanders and company were thinking they’d have in place.

Behind the Scenes with ‘Coach Prime’ showrunner and director Micah Brown

Showrunner and director Micah Brown spoke with us about Season 2 of “Coach Prime”

Although he still bleeds Kansas colors, Micah Brown has been rooting for the black and gold over the past year while show-running and directing Season 2 of “Coach Prime.”

The new season of the Amazon Prime Video documentary follows Deion Sanders’ first season as Colorado’s head football coach. In the three episodes that have been released so far, we got to relive Coach Prime’s first spring in Boulder and the Buffaloes’ 3-0 start to the year.

Players who were spotlighted include quarterback Shedeur Sanders, two-way star Travis Hunter, defensive lineman Shane Cokes, and wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr.

Brown, who was a special teams standout at KU from 2005-07 and a member of the Orange Bowl championship team, recently answered a few questions from Buffaloes Wire about his work on Season 2:

2023-24 Transfer Portal Team Rankings

Which team will see the biggest gains as a result?

College football has changed forever with the addition of the transfer portal just a few short years ago.  Gone are the days of almost all players staying exclusively at one program for four or five years and instead we essentially see college football’s version of free agency twice a year.

Notre Dame has made a big boost to their roster in recent years using this.  Last year it was Sam Hartman who was supposed to come in and end quarterback woes for the Irish.  This year its Riley Leonard.

Where does the commitment of the former Duke quarterback help place Notre Dame in the transfer portal team rankings this off-season?

Where does Coach Prime and Colorado rate as he’s delivered again with talent acquisition as he promised?

Near but not at the top according to 247Sports.  Here is how 247Sports has rated the top 20 as of Tuesday afternoon (December 13, 2023).

Colorado fans react to the Season 2 premiere of ‘Coach Prime’

Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s “Coach Prime” is a must-watch for Colorado fans

If you haven’t gotten the chance yet, Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s “Coach Prime” is a must-watch for Colorado fans. The first two episodes of the new season are available now and the third will be released Thursday.

In those first two episodes, we got to relive Deion Sanders’ arrival to Boulder, Colorado’s sold-out spring game and the emotional season opener at TCU. Athletic director Rick George, 99-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom and players Jimmy Horn Jr., Bishop Thomas and Charlie Offerdahl were also featured heavily.

Below are some of the best social media reactions to the Season 2 premiere of “Coach Prime:”

Social media reaction to Deion Sanders being named Sports Illustrated ‘Sports Person of the Year’

This actually brings back a Notre Dame memory of sorts…

It doesn’t seem like that long ago that Tyrone Willingham was the talk of college football.  In 2002 he helped jumpstart Notre Dame an 8-0 start and No. 4 ranking before being upset by Boston College at home.

Notre Dame would get crushed at USC at the end of November to finish the regular season 9-2.  Despite the tough November, The Sporting News named Willingham their Sportsman of the Year for 2002.

Memories of that immediately came to mind to me Thursday morning when Sports Illustrated announced Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders as their 2023 ‘Sports Person of the Year’.

Sanders was certainly the story of college football for the first half of September as the Buffaloes were 3-0, but they’d finish the year with just a 4-8 mark and were blown out far more often than they were competitive.

Regardless, Sports Illustrated still named him and as you can probably guess, social media had a field day reacting.

Stanford statistical leaders through 11 games

The Irish can’t lose to this team, right?

Stanford is trying to salvage something out of its season. Even its win over Coach Prime and Colorado has become lessened by the fact that Buffaloes turned out not to be much better than the Cardinal. A victory over Notre Dame would by far be the signature of their season. That won’t be easy though.

There are a few talented players on the Cardinal, but they only can do so much to make up for their shortcomings. For instance, the offense lives off the pass to the point where the quarterbacks actually are the top rushers. For our purposes though, we’re discounting them in that category for this listicle. That alone should speak volumes about the Cardinal.

It’s no surprise that a team with this many shortcomings has dragged the Irish to the dying Pac-12 Network for its final live football game. If it somehow pulls off the upset, here are the players most likely to factor in:

College football 2024 team recruiting rankings as October ends

Will No. 1 stay there?

The lifeblood of team success in college football remains recruiting.  Sure, there is recruiting players in the transfer portal these days and that’s certainly important, but if you’re going to compete for anything noteworthy, you better be having success on the recruiting front.

As we move from October to November and get ready for the homeward stretch of the college football regular season, we thought it’d be a good idea to look at the current recruiting rankings for the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Is Georgia a shoe-in for the top class or is a Big Ten team (now or future one for that matter) going to catch them?

Can Notre Dame add to what currently is a top 10 class?

Where are Colorado and a few others you’d expect to see?

Here are the top 40 recruiting classes for 2024 according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Dan Lanning addresses backlash after pregame speech vs. Colorado goes viral

Dan Lanning addressed the backlash that came from his pregame speech against Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.

Midway through the first half of the Oregon Ducks’ dominant 42-6 win over the Colorado Buffaloes, the ABC broadcast teased “unprecedented access” from Dan Lanning and his team that was given to their cameras before airing part of the pregame speech that Oregon’s coach delivered before kickoff.

It’s a video that you’ve likely seen by now unless you are completely tuned out of the sports media news cycle.

“They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins,” Lanning said to his players. “There’s a difference. This game isn’t going to be played in Hollywood, it’s going to be played on the grass.”

When the speech was originally aired, social media went crazy for it, admiring the passion that Lanning showed while firing his team up for a marquee matchup.

Unsurprisingly, though, the narrative has shifted over the last couple of days, and Lanning found himself as the center of many sports talk show debates on Monday because of his remarks. Some — including Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless on his show Undisputed — labeled Lanning as a bully, saying that he was filled with “venomous vengeance” when targeting Colorado coach Deion Sanders in his speech.

On Monday night, Lanning was able to speak to media members and address the backlash that has come from his comments. Here is what he had to say:

“I’ve watched him (Bayless) enough to know how often he gets it wrong. Ultimately, here’s what I say we’re playing to win the game and you saw a 15-second clip, from a window view outside the house, and what happens in the locker room,” Lanning said. “I know our locker room. I’m in the house 100 percent of the time. I know how our players felt going into that game. I know what it takes to motivate our players. That’s my job to motivate our players. He has a job, I have a job to, to get out there and perform on the field. But inside that house, they felt a certain way. They felt a certain way about a group stomping on the ‘O’, they felt a certain way about guys talking to him in the pregame. I’m proud of those guys, because what they decided to do is talk with their pads. They didn’t want to do anything extra afterward. They wanted to talk with their pads. and they did that on Saturday.”

Anyone who knows Lanning can feel certain that he did not make the comments with any hate towards Coach Prime.

“I’m also grateful and can clearly acknowledge that the attention that we got this Saturday, in large part was to Deion and what he’s doing to college football, and if anybody can’t see what he’s done for college football and how he’s bringing excitement to college football, you’re crazy,” Lanning said. “I said that last week as well. He’s done a lot for the game. He’s building something over there. I think that’s really really clear. There’s no secret there. But it wouldn’t matter if I was playing my 10-year-old son on the other sideline, I’m going to do everything I can to win. If I’m playing Bill Belichick I’m gonna do everything I can to win. Did I go for it on fourth down? Yeah, I have every game this year. I’ve gone for it nine times. Did I go for a two-point conversion? Yeah, I’ve done it three out of four games this year. And if we play again tomorrow, I’m gonna do the same thing. I’m gonna do everything I can to win a game and everything I can to motivate my team. So you know that to me is classless what he’s (Bayless) saying there but I’m not really worried about it.”

Obviously, the pregame speech worked to perfection. Oregon went on to dominate the game in every facet, and now they head into Week 5 with a 4-0 record ranked as one of the best teams in the nation.

‘A good old-fashioned butt-kicking;’ Coach Prime recaps 42-6 loss blowout loss to Ducks

Coach Prime made no excuses about his Buffs after a 42-6 loss to the Ducks on Saturday.

When the scoreboard reads 42-6 and your team is the one with the six, there’s not much to say.

Not saying a lot isn’t exactly in Colorado head coach Deion Sanders’ wheelhouse, but after getting routed for 60 minutes straight, there’s not a lot to say.

“Just a good ole’ fashioned butt-kicking,” was Sanders’ opening statement and he wasn’t wrong. Oregon smacked his Buffaloes team around and Colorado only scored the Ducks’ third-string defense.

However, his overall assessment may be a bit skewed.

“It’s not a huge talent gap, they just played a concise game,” Sanders said after the game.

Oregon proved the talent gap is still there by a large margin, especially on the line scrimmage on both sides of the ball. It just wasn’t a fair fight. The Ducks literally pushed Colorado around and sacked quarterback Shedeur Sanders seven times.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was also the far superior quarterback as he was 28-of-33 for 278 yards and three touchdowns. Sanders, however, was 23-of-33, but for just 159 yards and a touchdown. Most of that came against the Oregon backups.

Now at 3-1 and USC next, the Buffaloes hype train might have been derailed. But Coach Prime didn’t mince words.

“We were hot garbage,” he said.

The Ducks might have had a little something to do with that. Here are the most notable quotes from Coach Prime following his team’s first loss of the season.

Richard Sherman on why the Cowboys won’t hire Deion Sanders

Seahawks great Richard Sherman doesn’t see it happening.

The two biggest stories in football right now are the Dallas Cowboys – currently No. 1 in our Week 3 power rankings – and their former superstar DB Deion Sanders. These days Prime is the head coach at Colorado, where the Buffaloes have already exceeded their projected 2023 win total after putting together one of the most-talented teams in college football in one offseason.

Naturally, there’s been a lot of speculation about what might come next for Sanders. While Prime claims he doesn’t want to coach in the NFL, he might change his tune if a team were to offer him a more-money-than-God type of contract. There’s only one team that would do it – and while Mike McCarthy is doing very well right now running these Cowboys – it’s not hard to imagine them trying to hire Sanders in the coming years if Colorado continues to climb the ladder like this.

However, Seahawks great Richard Sherman doesn’t see it happening. In his most recent appearance on Undisputed, Sherman said that Sanders would overshadow team owner Jerry Jones too much. Watch.
