Top prospects in the Sooner State and where they’re headed in 2023

Where are the top Oklahoma prospects in the 2023 class headed?

The state of Oklahoma has some top-notch talent in the class of 2023. The Oklahoma Sooners have a commitment from 2022 Oklahoma Player of the Year Erik McCarty and are trending in a positive direction for the No. 2 player in the state, [autotag]Jacobe Johnson[/autotag].

They made serious plays for others in the top five of 247Sports top prospects in the state, but for one reason or another, those players decided to try their hand with another Power Five program.

Bai Jobe, the No. 1 player in the state, committed to Michigan State after spending his middle and high school years living in Norman. Oklahoma’s No. 3 player, Luke Hasz, decommitted from the Oklahoma Sooners after Lincoln Riley left for USC and hooked up with Sam Pittman and Arkansas to play his college ball. Dylan Hasz, his brother and the No. 17 player in the state in the 247Sports composite rankings is also going to Arkansas.

Athlete Micah Tease, a Tulsa native, also opted to head east with Hasz to play for the Razorbacks. Cole Adams, one of the top wide receivers in the state, opted to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Oklahoma State currently has the most commitments from in-state prospects with DL Jaedon Foreman and OL JaKobe Sanders pledge to play for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys. However, if and when the Sooners get a commitment from Jacobe Johnson, Oklahoma will have the edge with the higher rated in-state prospects.

The only two uncommited prospects in the top 18 in the state of Oklahoma, wide receiver Morgan Pearson and running back Rickey Hunt, don’t have offers from the Sooners. Pearson has an offer from Oklahoma State and both have offers from Iowa State.

Though we’re still months away from the early signing period or national signing day, here’s a look at where the top prospects in Oklahoma are headed, according to 247Sports.

Oklahoma misses out on in-state EDGE as four-star Bai Jobe commits to Michigan State

The Oklahoma Sooners had a loss on the recruiting trail as the state’s best player chose Michigan State over the Sooners and Alabama.

Oklahoma simply can’t win them all. As much as the Sooners may want to, they won’t get every major in-state recruit. That’s the case as the Sooners lose another in-state talent to an out-of-state school.

In this instance, 2023 four-star EDGE Bai Jobe committed to the Michigan State Spartans over the Sooners, Crimson Tide, and a few others.

Jobe, the number one player in the state of Oklahoma plays at Community Christian School in Norman, Okla. His proximity to Norman made it easier for the Sooners to recruit him but ultimately Jobe wanted to get away and spread his wings elsewhere. He becomes the highest-rated recruit in Michigan State’s class, according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him No. 64 overall and No. 9 at his position..

Oklahoma will rebound and land the No. 3 player in the state of Oklahoma, athlete Jacobe Johnson, a top 100 player nationally.

Projections overwhelmingly favor the Sooners here. Barring anything unforeseen, the Sooners will only bring two of the top ten players in the state out of the 2023 class. A number they’d likely like to increase as they begin to take aim at the 2024 class.

Adepoju Adebawore and Tausili Akana look like the most likely candidates to be added to the Sooners recruiting class next at the edge position, and as the dust settles on the Bai Jobe’s recruitment that’s where defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis will focus his efforts.

Good morning, Tide fans! Welcome back to our Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone has had a good week as we are one step closer to the weekend.

It’s decision day for one of the nation’s most coveted defenders in the class of 2023, [autotag]Bai Jobe[/autotag].

The four-star prospect has narrowed his list of schools down to three ahead of his decision. Alabama will be fighting off Michigan State and Oklahoma for the 6-foot-5 defender.

Currently, the Spartans are considered the heavy favorite for Jobe according to On3’s RPM, owning a 93.7% chance of landing his commitment. The Spartans also have six crystal balls in for Jobe on 247Sports.

Jobe will announce his commitment today, July 7 at 4:00 p.m. CT.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories involving the Crimson Tide.

MSU Football target, 4-star DE Bai Jobe to commit on Thursday

Michigan State could be adding an elite-level prospect to its 2023 recruiting class this week.

2023 4-star EDGE Bai Jobe cuts list of teams to 3, includes the Oklahoma Sooners

As the Oklahoma Sooners look to build some momentum for the 2023 recruiting class, local target Bai Jobe released his top 3 schools.

The Oklahoma Sooners are closing in on several of their targets in the 2023 recruiting class. After landing offensive tackle Heath Ozaeta this week, they landed inside the top two for linebacker Samuel Omosigho and the top three for defensive lineman Derrick LeBlanc. Now, local product Bai Jobe has cut his list of teams under consideration to three and has included the Oklahoma Sooners.

Out of Norman, Okla. Bai Jobe is the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma and the No. 9 EDGE according to the 247Sports Composite and On3 Consensus.

Jobe’s recruitment is important for Oklahoma. They’re contending with Alabama and Michigan State for the top in-state product. While they’re the hometown team, there’s no guarantee that Oklahoma is the landing spot.

Though he’s a raw player, he’s turned heads across the country. In 2021, he registered 16.5 sacks and 56 tackles.

Here’s what Jobe had to say about Oklahoma to On3’s Sam Spiegelman.

“I like the coaches over there, especially my position coach, Miguel (Chavis). I like him a lot,” Jobe told On3 Sports. “I live like five minutes away from campus, so I know a lot about Oklahoma. I know Oklahoma more than other places. I know about Norman better than other places and I really like the staff and can see myself there. This staff has shown me a lot more than the old staff.”

Jobe was offered by Brent Venables staff back in December and living in Norman has given him an opportunity to know the university and the coaching staff quite well. Miguel Chavis has done a fantastic job on the recruiting trail since earning his first opportunity as a position coach.

It’s hard to tell where this thing will end up as the recruiting projections appear split on Jobe’s landing spot and there’s a chance the Crimson Tide end up with the talented EDGE rusher.
