Seahawks nose tackle Austin Faoliu signed by UFL team

Apparently nose tackle Austin Faoliu has signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks.

The NFL season is over, which means it’s spring league time. This year the two biggest spring leagues have combined, with the XFL and the USFL coming together to form the fledgling UFL, which will begin its first season on March 30.

Yesterday we learned at least on Seahawks player will be on a roster. Apparently nose tackle Austin Faoliu has signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Faoliu was at the bottom of the depth chart at nose tackle, with Jarran Reed, Cameron Young and Bryan Mone ahead of him.

Faoliu played his college ball at Oregon and in addition to his stop in Seattle this season he also played a handful of snaps for the Cowboys in the 2021 campaign. In-between, he played for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL in 2022.

Seahawks Injury Report: Two star players are questionable vs. Browns

How does the Seahawks look health wise going into Sunday’s matchup

The Cleveland Browns 2023 season marches on as the road trip continues in Seattle against the Seahawks. The Browns will be without Deshaun Watson again as P.J. Walker and the offense try to solve their passing attack. It’ll be easier to get some solutions this week if the Seahawks safety Jamal Adams misses this game as he and wide receiver Tyler Lockett are both questionable.

Adams and Lockett are both on the injury report against the Browns. Running back Kenny Mcintosh and defensive tackle Austin Faoliu have already been ruled out with guard Phil Haynes being listed as doubtful.

Missing Tyler Lockett could be huge for the Browns because when he is out there it creates an interesting and talented trio of wide receivers. Either way, if either Lockett or Adams misses the game it would be a big loss let alone if they were both out. Cleveland is looking to get to 5-2 to start the season as the team waits for their franchise quarterback to return.

Seahawks signing former Seattle Sea Dragons DL Austin Faoliu

The former Duck is staying in the Pacific Northwest

The Seattle Seahawks may have concluded the 2023 NFL draft but it certainly is not stopping them from making more player transactions. This time, the Seahawks did not have to look very far to bring in a new player to the organization.

On Monday it was reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston that Seattle was signing defensive lineman Austin Faoliu. For those who followed the XFL this year, the name should sound familiar as he was a member of the Seattle Sea Dragons.

Faoliu recorded 24 total tackles – two for a loss 0 – and a sack in the re-rebooted XFL season. The Sea Dragons qualified for the postseason but fell to the DC Defenders for a third time. Faoliu was also an Oregon Duck who had 113 total tackles and six sacks during his time in Eugene.

Faoliu’s signing signifies the real value of the XFL. Sure, it’s great to watch quality football in the spring to feed our collective addiction to the sport, but it can also provide a great avenue for players right on the NFL bubble to show the league they deserve another shot. As of right now, Faoliu is getting his with another Seattle based team.

Seahawks announce they’ve signed 2 more defensive linemen, 3rd reported

Today, Seattle followed through by adding a couple more pieces to their interior rotation.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters this weekend at rookie minicamp that the team still had work to do on their defensive line. Today, Seattle followed through by adding a couple more pieces to their interior rotation.

The team just announced that they have signed two new players: former Raiders defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. as well as nose tackle Forrest Merrill.

Edwards (6-foot-3, 280 pounds) is a former second-round draft pick who’s entering his ninth year in the NFL. He has played 99 regular season games between five teams, totaling 19.5 sacks and 46 QB hits. Edwards probably won’t be starting but he should be considered the next-guy-up behind projected starting defensive ends Dre’Mont Jones and Jarran Reed.

Merrill (6-foot-1, 338 pounds) comes to Seattle by way of the Chargers, who he played four games for in 2021 – all on special teams. Before that, he played 28 games at Arkansas State, posting 8.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss.

Merrill joins a robust competition at the nose tackle position that includes three rookies. Until veteran Bryan Mone recovers from his ACL injury, our projected starter is fourth-round pick Cameron Young out of Mississippi State.

To make room for them on the 90-man roster, Seattle waived linebacker Michael Ayers and defensive end Jacob Sykes.

Update:

The Seahawks are also signing former Oregon and Seattle Sea Dragons defensive lineman Austin Faoliu, according to a report by Aaron Wilson.

Cowboys make 5 cuts, including spring FA signing, to get down to 85 players

UDFA WR Ty Fryfogle was among the Cowboys’ Monday cuts with an injury designation; he could revert to IR if he goes unclaimed. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys had until Tuesday afternoon to trim down their roster by five players.

They apparently made up their minds early.

The club has already informed the five cuts of their fate, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Cornerback Kyron Brown, fullback Ryan Nall, tight end Ian Bunting, undrafted rookie wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, and defensive tackle Austin Faoliu will reportedly be cleaning out their lockers.

Only Faoliu was waived outright. Brown, Nall, Bunting, and Fryfogle are being let go, though, with injury designations. If they go unclaimed by another team, they will revert to injured reserve.

The Cowboys technically stand at 86 total players, as offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón does not count toward the official roster due to his international exemption.

The team must get down to 81 players by Aug. 23.

Cowboys make roster moves for Week 4 game vs Carolina

WR Malik Turner, DT Justin Hamilton, and FB Nick Ralston are among those who will be active for Sunday afternoon’s date with the Panthers. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys made several roster tweaks on Saturday, just ahead of their Week 4 meeting with the Carolina Panthers.

Wide receiver Malik Turner, fresh off injured reserve, has been officially activated for Sunday’s game. Defensive tackles Justin Hamilton and Austin Faoliu were called up from the practice squad as well, with Dorance Armstong and Carlos Watkins declared out.

Tight end Jeremy Sprinkle will be a COVID-19 replacement for the fourth week in a row; fullback Nick Ralston also gets the elevation treatment for the second straight game.

Each of the players listed have suited up for Dallas before, save for Faoliu. The Oregon rookie played saw action in three of the team’s four preseason games; Sunday will mark his NFL regular season debut.

Jags Wire’s final 7-round mock draft for 2021 with trades

The Jags in all likelihood will be selecting Trevor Lawrence Thursday night, but they must add some offensive contributors around him, too.

The 2021 NFL Draft is almost here, and for Jacksonville Jaguars fans, it’s arguably the most important in franchise history. Of course, the reason for that is because they are set to acquire a player who some draft experts feel is a generational talent in quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

However, most would agree that picking Lawrence will be the easy part, and more may be riding on the additions made after him, especially with Urban Meyer aiming for the playoffs right away. With that being the case, we went over to Pro Football Focus to fire up their simulator one last time to make the final 2021 Jags Wire mock of the year. Here are the selections we came away with in an attempt to build a strong offensive and defensive group around Lawrence:
