Ohio State freshman Arvell Reese has lost black stripe

Welcome Arvell Reese to the Brotherhood. #GoBucks

Black stripe alert! On Tuesday, the newest member of the “Brotherhood” was welcomed when freshman Arvell Reese lost his black stripe. Reese comes to Ohio State via the pipeline to Cleveland Glenville High School.

Reese joined the Buckeyes as a four-star prospect at linebacker. However, the decision was made to move him to defensive end for the time being. Head coach Ryan Day said the idea came from Reese’s high school coach, Ted Ginn Sr.

The coaching staff sees him as explosive and believes his frame will allow him to bulk up rather quickly. Day also said the switch may not be permanent but could get him on the field earlier, however, no decisions have been made.

Reese becomes the 11th freshman to shed his black stripe this season as the Buckeyes are less than two weeks from the season opener against Indiana.

Ohio State football class of 2023 scouting report: Arvell Reese

Ohio State football class of 2023 scouting report: Arvell Reese #GoBucks

The Ohio State footballĀ recruiting class of 2023 is complete and despite some murmurs of negativity in the crowd, this class is fantastic from top to bottom. One of the studs of this class is a four-star linebacker from their own backyard in Arvell Reese from Glenville, Ohio.

Reese is regarded as a top 205 recruit in the country and a top 20 linebacker in the class. Reese is the only linebacker that Ohio State snagged from this cycle and he may not even end up as a true linebacker as he has the potential to play a hybrid role instead.

Name: Arvell Reese

Current Ohio State Outside Linebackers and their 247Sports rankings #GoBucks

TheĀ Ohio State football team has eight linebackers on scholarship, but six of these prospects arrived on campus with bonafide outside linebacker designated rankings on 247Sports. Now the Ohio State scheme only has two linebackers and the rotation for both is likely going to be fluid, but to keep things simple I just wanted to recap the six that were rated as outside backers.

The star of the outside group is Steele Chambers who was debating whether or not to declare for the NFL, but has elected to return in an attempt to raise his draft stock. The funny part is that Chambers was actually recruited as a running back before making the positional switch two seasons ago, but it’s time to dive into what this unit was ranked.

There are certain attributes that prospect evaluators like over others, and that is why you often see significant disparities between the major recruiting services. One might like a prospect much more than the other but it still gives you a good idea of how much potential the player has.

Now that the high school season is over and the all-star games have been played, ESPN made the final update to its class of 2023 rankings. Find out below where each Buckeye signee was ranked in the top 300 and a quick takeaway of the rankings.

BOOM! Ohio State gets commitment from four-star LB Arvell Reese

Ohio State gets commitment from Cleveland product Arvell Reese. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team has been looking for some good recruiting news on the defensive side of the ball. And today the Buckeyes got that good news as four-star linebacker Arvell Reese gave his verbal pledge to the Buckeyes.

Reese chose Ohio State over Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, and USC as Ryan Day was able to keep another blue-chip prospect inside state lines. Reese hails from Cleveland Glenville which has seen its fair share of players make the trip down I-71 to Columbus.

Reese is ranked as the No. 20 linebacker in the country and the No. 7 player in the state of Ohio according to 247Sports composite rankings. Ohio State has had its eye on Reese for a while now, so it’s good to have him in the fold finally.

But that may not be all the good news to come soon. Several Buckeye recruits seem to be hinting that something else big is about to happen.

There is much speculation, but many seem to think that it could be Dijon Johnson recommitting to OSU. Johnson reopened his recruitment last week after being committed to the Buckeyes since April. Only time will tell but it feels like something big is about to happen with all the hype from current recruits.
