Meet Notre Dame’s Now Complete 2023 Recruiting Class

Meet Notre Dame’s 26 current commitments in what is a top-five class nationally.

After a whirlwind couple of years the 2023 recruiting class has officially been completed at Notre Dame.  What started out tremendously hit a few snags along the way.  It closed with one of the strangest signing day stories you’ll ever see when Peyton Bowen bailed on Notre Dame for Oregon, only to change his mind and bail on Oregon for Oklahoma just a day later.

In all, Notre Dame wound up with 24 signed commitments after the second signing period in February.  It didn’t finish in the top couple of spots nationally like we had hoped after it’s tremendous start but will continue to add to the overall talent for Notre Dame.

This class didn’t waste any time getting their signatures to South Bend

It is finally upon us, the hard work the Irish football staff has put in can finally but a “bow” on the 2023 recruiting cycle. Yes, there is still another point where recruits can sign, but Marcus Freeman and his staff have already maxed out the class with verbals and if everyone signs, they will be one over the normal allotment of 25 players.

A few of the verbals didn’t waste any time faxing their information over to South Bend but they should keep coming in as the day proceeds. Find out below which Irish commitments have made their Notre Dame pledges complete. (This list will be updated as the day goes on so make sure to return.)

Notre Dame flips Wisconsin 2023 offensive lineman

The Irish add one of the Midwests best OL’s

Although the Irish didn’t win on the field last night, they won a recruiting battle against a Big Ten foe. Illinois offensive lineman [autotag]Christopher Terek[/autotag] was committed to Wisconsin, but almost exactly as the Badger were announcing new head coach [autotag]Luke Fickell[/autotag], Terek announced that he was flipping to Notre Dame.

It probably won’t be the last time that [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and his former employer will be vying for a prospect, even though Terek’s pledge to Notre Dame wasn’t really a head-to-head recruiting battle between the two coaches.  The six-foot-five-inch and 320-pound lineman also had offers from Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and others before his top to the Irish.

Terek’s now makes the 2023 class “full” with 25 commitments, while joining [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag], [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/ [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag], and [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag] as the offensive lineman in the group. The Irish collectively still have one of the best class of the recruiting cycle.

Breaking: Notre Dame loses another 2023 commitment

Not the best recruiting news at all

At one point during this 2023 recruiting cycle, Notre Dame held the top spot in the nation but things have certainly changed since sitting atop the recruiting world earlier this year. First it was [autotag]Sedrick Irvin Jr.[/autotag], then [autotag]Justyn Rhett[/autotag] and the biggest decommit, [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag].

Keely obviously hurt the most, as he was the highest rated commit and was on the Ohio State sidelines shortly after formally announcing he was not a part of the Irish class anymore.

Today the fourth decommit of the 2023 cycle happened for the Irish as Arizona offensive lineman [autotag]Elijah Paige[/autotag] has decided to step away from his pledge to Notre Dame.

This one was a bit surprising as there was no smoke to Paige leaving the class. With Paige gone, the Irish have twenty-two verbals with four offensive lineman ([autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag], [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/autotag], [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag], and [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag]).

The Great Wall of South Bend get’s another 2023 commitment

The wall is now complete

Earlier this week 2023 offensive lineman commit [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag] had a feeling that there was another player joining his position group. He was so confident that he posted a picture on Twitter about it.

Well, Pendleton, or shall we say Samstradamus, was correct as Illinois offensive tackle [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag] verbally committed to Notre Dame today. The six-foot-six-inch and 290-pound tackle announced via his Twitter account the he was joining the 2023 Irish recruiting class. Jagusah now makes it an even five commits, joining Pendleton, [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Paige[/autotag], and [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag] in the group. Jagusah, however is viewed as the crown jewel of the bunch.

Ranked as one of the best players at his position, tackle, Jagusah held offers from LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and others before ultimately selecting the Irish. The verbal most likely finishes off the pursuit of other offensive lineman in the class, which now in total sits at 16 commits.

Current Notre Dame commit tries to entice recruit who commits this week

“The Great Wall of South Bend” could be close to completion

The offensive line has long been a strength for the Irish, often the moniker of [autotag]“O-Line U”[/autotag] is dropped when talking about the tradition. That tradition has a very good chance of succeeding, in the present and beyond.

Center [autotag]Jarrett Patterson[/autotag] was named a 1st team preseason All-American by Walter Camp. Rising sophomores [autotag]Joe Alt[/autotag] and [autotag]Blake Fisher[/autotag] look like stalwarts on the line for at least the next two seasons before their inevitable move to the NFL.

The 2023 recruiting class is trying to hold up their end of the bargain with [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Paige[/autotag], [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag] currently committed to the Irish. Pendleton is looking for yet another lineman to join the class, Illinois tackle [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag].

If Jagusah is to commit, which he intends to do this Thursday, it would make a very impressive five commits along the line and most likely would complete the position for the 2023 cycle. As Pendleton put it, “The Great Wall of South Bend” would be complete with Jagusah.

Notre Dame adds yet another impressive OL to 2023 recruiting class

The 2023 recruiting class grows stronger

The Irish are making it known that they are going to win in the trenches during the [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] era. Notre Dame’s “new” head coach has been heavy on finding impact offensive and defensive linemen for his program. Just look at the talent that has been brought in and who is committed currently.

Today, another impressive lineman joined the fray, 2023 Kansas offensive lineman [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag]. At six-foot-four-inches and 270-pounds, Otting played both ways for his high school however will make the move full-time to the offensive line, guard or center, when he arrives at South Bend. He chose the Irish over scholarship offers from Iowa, Kansas State, Baylor, Minnesota, Missouri and others.

There could be a thought that the offer list is not compelling, but knowing what [autotag]Harry Hiestand[/autotag] can do with his pupils, there is no need to question that. Otting becomes the 14th commitment of the 2023 recruiting class, which currently is ranked as either the best or one of the best in the country, depending on recruiting service rankings.

2024 ATH Preston Ries earns second offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes

Class of 2024 in-state athlete Preston Ries out of Monticello High School picked up his second college offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

In-state class of 2024 product [autotag]Preston Ries[/autotag] picked up his second college offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-2, 205 pound athlete is from Monticello High School in Iowa.

After the offer from Iowa, Ries now holds offers from both Iowa and Iowa State. Nebraska and Wisconsin have shown interest as well but are yet to offer Ries.

Ries has played all over the gridiron for Monticello, including quarterback, running back and outside linebacker. According to 247Sports, Ries is a three-star recruit, the No. 74 athlete nationally and the fifth-best player from Iowa in the 2024 class. Rivals also ranks Ries as a three-star prospect.

The offer to Ries continues a recent flurry of offers in the 2024 class from the Hawkeye coaching staff. In addition to Ries, Iowa has offered athlete [autotag]Caleb Benning[/autotag] out of Westside High School in Omaha, Neb., athlete [autotag]Derek Weisskopf[/autotag] from Williamsburg High School in Iowa, tight end [autotag]Christian Bentancur[/autotag] out of Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Ill., running back [autotag]Jordan Marshall[/autotag] of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and offensive lineman [autotag]Ian Moore[/autotag] from New Palestine High School in Indiana.

Iowa has commitments in the 2024 class from East Buchanan High School offensive lineman Cody Fox in Winthrop, Iowa, and Winfield-Mt. Union High School linebacker Cam Buffington in Winfield, Iowa.

Now that both Iowa and Iowa State have offered Ries, it’s likely his recruitment will pick up in earnest from other power-five programs. Ries reported that his offer came after a conversation with Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz and assistant defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Seth Wallace. It indicates that Iowa views Ries’ future as a linebacker at the next level.

2023 DE/EDGE Jordan Allen grabs Iowa Hawkeyes offer

Iowa offered class of 2023 defensive end and EDGE Jordan Allen from Olathe, Kan.

Iowa identified another defensive player it would like to join its 2023 recruiting class. The Hawkeye coaching staff extended an offer to Olathe, Kan., defensive end and EDGE Jordan Allen out of Olathe South.

The 6-foot-4, 240 pound Sunflower State product is ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, the nation’s No. 60 EDGE and the 11th-best player from Kansas. Rivals regards Allen as a three-star weak side defensive end and the No. 11 player from Kansas. Lastly, according to On3, Allen is a three-star EDGE, the No. 780 player overall in the On3 consensus, the No. 51 EDGE and the No. 7 player from Kansas.

Iowa State was the first school to offer Allen back on Feb. 9. South Dakota, New Mexico State, Kansas, Kansas State and Vanderbilt also offered Allen in the month of February. Then, Washington offered Allen last month before Iowa offered Allen this weekend.

Allen would be another nice defensive piece to add to the Hawkeyes’ early defensive commits. If Allen picked Iowa, he would join a list of commits that includes defensive end and EDGE Chase Brackney out of Cherry Creek High School in Colorado, linebacker Ben Kueter from Iowa City High School, defensive back John Nestor from Marist High School in Chicago and defensive lineman Maddux Borcherding-Johnson from Norwalk High School.

According to MaxPreps, Allen finished last season at Olathe South with 56 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, four sacks and one fumble recovery for the Falcons. Here’s a look at his junior season Hudl highlights at Olathe South.

Iowa Hawkeyes offer 2023 OL Joe Otting from Kansas

Iowa offered class of 2023 offensive lineman Joe Otting from Topeka, Kan.

Iowa continued a recent surge in offers to 2023 recruits by offering offensive lineman [autotag]Joe Otting[/autotag] from the Sunflower State. Otting is a 6-foot-4, 265 pound offensive lineman from Hayden High School in Topeka, Kan.

According to 247Sports, Otting is a three-star talent, the country’s No. 41 interior offensive lineman and the No. 7 player from the state of Kansas. Rivals also ranks Otting as a three-star recruit and as the No. 6 player from Kansas.

On3 rates Otting as a three-star prospect, the No. 35 interior offensive lineman and Kansas’ No. 5 player. In the On3 consensus rankings, Otting is the No. 698 player nationally, the No. 58 interior offensive lineman and the No. 7 player from Kansas.

Iowa represented Otting’s ninth college offer according to 247Sports. In addition to the Hawkeyes, Otting holds offers from Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and New Mexico. Iowa joined Baylor and Minnesota as power-five programs to offer Otting in April.

Over the past month, Iowa has offered a number of 2023 recruits. That list includes defensive end and edge [autotag]Will Heldt[/autotag], offensive lineman [autotag]Logan Howland[/autotag], safety and linebacker [autotag]Nigel Glover[/autotag], safety [autotag]King Mack[/autotag], edge rusher and linebacker [autotag]Michael Kilbane[/autotag], linebacker [autotag]Arvell Reese[/autotag] and athlete [autotag]Kooper Ebel[/autotag].

Iowa has seven commitments in the 2023 class: quarterback Marco Lainez III, defensive end and edge rusher Chase Brackney, athlete Alex Mota, linebacker Ben Kueter, offensive lineman Leighton Jones, defensive back John Nestor and defensive lineman Maddux Borcherding-Johnson. Iowa’s 2023 recruiting class is currently ranked as the country’s No. 11 class by 247Sports, the No. 12 class by Rivals and the No. 21 class by On3.
