With the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints set for a Sunday matchup at Lincoln Financial Field, here’s a statistical breakdown for both teams ahead of Week 17

The Eagles and Saints are prepping for an important Week 17 matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.

If Philadelphia (13-2) can get the win, they’ll secure the division and clinch home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs.

Handing New Orleans another loss would drop them to 6-10 on the season, improving their draft positioning as well for a pick that belongs to Philadelphia. As it stands, the Eagles (by way of the Saints) have the 10th pick in the NFL Draft, courtesy of a blockbuster pre-draft trade in April.

With so many looming factors in play, here is how both teams stack up statistically ahead of Sunday.

Eagles-Saints injury report: Miles Sanders among 4 to not practice, A.J. Brown listed as limited

The Philadelphia Eagles held a Wednesday walkthrough with Miles Sanders and Jalen Hurts among four players to not practice, while A.J. Brown and Jordan Davis were limited

The Eagles released their initial injury report for Sunday’s matchup against the Saints, and Miles Sanders was among four players to sit out practice.

Philadelphia participated in a walkthrough, so the injury report was an estimation, while A.J. Brown and Jordan Davis were limited participants.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts is pushing to play, but was a non-participant in Wednesday’s session, while the team awaits word on C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The star safety didn’t have his 21-day practice window activated, meaning he’ll miss another week.

Lane Johnson is delaying surgery on his injured abdominal in will rehab before returning for the playoffs.

10 lowest New Orleans Saints PFF player grades, offense

The 10 lowest New Orleans Saints player grades at Pro Football Focus, from the offense:

The New Orleans Saints haven’t hit a 6-9 record for no reason. Too many players have performed beneath expectations, which is reflected in the overall player grades from Pro Football Focus. So let’s shine a light on some of those problematic areas.

PFF’s player grades are too subjective to be very useful, but they do give us an idea of who is on the field most often and generally responsible for positive and negative plays. They’re a decent starting-point for real analysis.

We’re limiting focus to players who have been on the field for at least 100 snaps with the offense to weed out those who have only participated in a game or two. However, here are a few players who missed the cut due to that snaps restriction:

  • LG Lewis Kidd (28.5 grade on 69 snaps)
  • LT Landon Young (44.5 grade on 94 snaps)
  • WR Keith Kirkwood (54.9 grade on 97 snaps)

And now the 10 lowest Saints player grades on offense from Pro Football Focus:

Saints LG Andrus Peat carted off with ankle injury, questionable to return vs. Browns

Saints left guard Andrus Peat has been carted off with an ankle injury vs. the Browns and is questionable to return. They’re already without right guard Cesar Ruiz:

Things went from bad to worse for the New Orleans Saints offense early in Saturday’s game with the Cleveland Browns. They were already missing starting right guard Cesar Ruiz, who is done for the season with a Lisfranc foot injury. But then starting left guard Andrus Peat left the game on a trainer’s cart with an ankle injury. The Saints announced that he was questionable to return.

That’s tough. Peat has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and the reduced depth along the Saints offensive line in this game makes his absence even more difficult to deal with. His usual backup, Calvin Throckmorton, was starting in Ruiz’s spot at right guard. That put backup center Josh Andrews into the game — who was just elevated from the practice squad. Another backup guard, Lewis Kidd, was inactive for Saturday’s game. That really limited their options.

Hopefully Peat isn’t dealing with a serious injury. We’ll await word from the team on whether he can return.

We’re closing in on the New Orleans Saints’ game with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11, and the final injury report did a lot to clarify which players will be available and who will be on the mend. You can find the full injury report here in brief, but we’ll take a deeper look at each injury situation:

Saints rule out 7 players on final injury report vs. Rams

New Orleans Saints rule out 7 players on final injury report vs. Los Angeles Rams, including multiple starters on both offense and defense

This isn’t good. The New Orleans Saints announced seven players will be unavailable for Week 11’s game with the Los Angeles Rams due to injuries, including starters at multiple positions along the offensive and defensive lines. The only positive development from past days is that backup center Josh Andrews (illness) has been upgraded to full participation and will start in place of Erik McCoy (who is on injured reserve), and that left guard Andrus Peat (triceps) was able to practice on a limited basis. But Peat is questionable to play after missing the first two practice sessions this week.

Here’s what we’ve learned from each team:
