Georgia O-line coach Matt Luke named top-25 recruiter

Rivals recently released their list of the top-25 recruiters and Georgia is represented by offensive line coach Matt Luke. Details here.

Rivals recently released their list of the top 25 recruiters in college football and Georgia is represented by offensive line coach Matt Luke.

After three seasons as head coach at Ole Miss, Luke took over the Bulldogs front in 2019 when Sam Pittman left Athens for the head coaching job at Arkansas.

Luke made his mark on Georgia’s 2021 recruiting class by signing the top-ranked tackle in the class, five-star Amarius Mims, while adding another top-10 tackle, four-star Micah Morris.

Rivals wrote:

“Georgia was unable to pull off a fourth straight recruiting rankings title in 2021, but the Dawgs did sign the nation’s sixth-best class, which featured a ton of top talent. Top-ranked among the prospects headed to Athens is five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims the No. 4-ranked prospect overall in 2021. Offensive line coach Matt Luke was responsible for delivering Mims for the Bulldogs, and he did not stop there, landing big offensive tackle Micah Morris who is the fourth-highest ranked prospect in this Georgia class, and four-star offensive guard Dylan Fairchild. Three-star offensive guard Jared Wilson rounds out Luke’s offensive line recruiting haul in this 2021 class.”

While Rivals has Georgia’s class rated as the No. 6 class in the country, other sites such as 247Sports have the Dawgs rated at No. 3 in the nation behind Alabama and Ohio State.

Regardless, the Bulldogs 2021 class is full of talent, especially along the offensive line as Luke worked to replace senior starters Trey Hill and Ben Cleveland.

While Wilson, Fairchild and Morris will most likely redshirt, Mims should have an opportunity to compete for either tackle spot as senior Jamaree Salyer, who started every game at left tackle in 2020, is expected to move to guard next season, his natural position.

We will know much more about next year’s lineup when Georgia holds the annual ‘G-day’ spring game, which is scheduled for April 17.

Four 2021 UGA recruits end ranked as 5-stars

The Georgia Bulldogs have the No. 3 recruiting class in the country featuring four five-star recruits.

The Georgia Bulldogs have the No. 3 recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports. Georgia’s class of 2021 is a special group that features four five-star recruits: Amarius Mims, Smael Mondon, Nyland Green and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins.

It touts the 14th-ranked recruit, massive offensive tackle Amarius Mims. Mims is an in-state recruit who played at Bleckley County High School. He has the talent to start right away, but Georgia is returning a lot of offensive line talent under Matt Luke.

Nyland Green, one of Georgia’s most recent additions to the class of 2021, finished the year rated as the No. 18 prospect in the country. Green will have a chance to play immediately because Georgia lost several cornerbacks this offseason.

Defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins is the top player from the state of South Carolina. The five-star recruit check in as the No. 19 player in the nation and the No. 2 defensive tackle. He dominated at Gaffney High School.

Lastly, five-star outside linebacker Smael Mondon is ranked as the No. 20 recruit in the country. Mondon is fast and versatile. The in-state prospect joins a loaded Georgia Bulldogs linebacker core.

Georgia quarterback signee Brock Vandagriff notably missed out on five-star status. He finishes the year rated as the No. 33 prospect and the top ranked four-star recruit. Most other services have Vandagriff ranked as a five-star, so this will give him motivation.

5-star OT Amarius Mims makes commitment to UGA football

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims has committed to the University of Georgia football program.

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Amarius Mims is one of the top players in the class of 2021. Now, Mims has committed to the University of Georgia. Matt Luke and Kirby Smart helped secure a commitment from the elite recruit.

Mims is six-foot-eight tall and weighs 315 pounds. He has an impressive size for an offensive tackle and has the frame to play in the NFL. He plays high school football at Bleckley County in Cochran, Georgia.

Georgia has now secured a commitment from the top tackle in the class of 2020 and 2021. Matt Luke and the University of Georgia would love to continue their offensive line recruiting dominance for years to come.

Mims chose UGA over Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, Tennessee, and Auburn. He’s expected to compete for playing time right away at Georgia.

Kirby Smart has rejuvenated Georgia’s offensive front. Georgia is physical in the trenches on both sides of the ball and that will continue for years to come.

Amarius Mims and high school offensive line recruits have to be impressed with UGA’s offensive line in recent years. Two Georgia Bulldog offensive linemen (Isaiah Wilson and Andrew Thomas) were picked in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

5-star QB commit trying to recruit top OT to Georgia football

Since flipping from Oklahoma to Georgia within a three-week span, the QB quickly turned the tables on recruiters by becoming one himself.

Consensus five-star quarterback prospect Brock Vandagriff thrilled Dawg Nation in January when he announced his commitment to play for his local university.

The top-ranked pocket passer of the 2021 recruiting cycle attends Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, exactly 10.63 miles from Sanford Stadium as the crow flies, or 13.71 miles away as the human drives (usually on Monroe Highway).

Since flipping from Oklahoma to Georgia within a three-week span, Vandagriff has quickly turned the tables on past recruiters by becoming one himself.

To cover some passing play basics:

Quarterbacks like having time to throw, so quarterbacks like their offensive line. These quarterbacks, nearly as much as they like pass protection, dislike enduring blindside tackles from opposing defenders.

With that in mind, the right-handed Vandagriff went out shopping for a potential left tackle.

And that’s where Amarius Mims comes in. Mims is a huge target, and that is meant (almost) more literally than figuratively.

At nearly six-foot-eight and 320 pounds, the junior out of Cochran, GA is already considered to be a Georgia lean. As per 247Sports, 100 percent of recruiting experts predict he will enroll at the University of Georgia.

Mims recently released a top-12 that included Georgia and a plethora of other SEC powerhouses.

The fellow consensus five-star, who plays his ball for Bleckley County high school, seems to be a perfect fit in the Bulldogs’ trenches.
