Major Georgia target, No. 1 DL Walter Nolen includes UGA among top-5 schools

Nolen is rated as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2022 recruiting class.

Georgia football is in the running for one of the best prospects in the 2022 recruiting class.

Five-star recruit and the No. 1 defensive tackle recruit in the country, Walter Nolen, has included the Bulldogs in his top-five schools.

Out of Cordova, Tenn., Nolen is the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 3 overall player for his class, per 247Sports Composite.

The St. Benedict at Auburndale High School prospect will choose among Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Alabama.

Nolen (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) visited the Bulldogs in June.

247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks wrote,

“Stoutly assembled defensive lineman with college-ready size. Owns the requisite height and possesses verified length to foster more bulk addition if desired. Powerful build manifests in point-of-attack disruption. Flashes consistent suddenness at the snap and closes fast in pursuit.”

Georgia currently holds the No. 7 ranked recruiting class for 2022 and are looking for defensive line help after five-star Bear Alexander decommitted from the Bulldogs last month.

Georgia O-line coach Matt Luke named top-25 recruiter

Rivals recently released their list of the top-25 recruiters and Georgia is represented by offensive line coach Matt Luke. Details here.

Rivals recently released their list of the top 25 recruiters in college football and Georgia is represented by offensive line coach Matt Luke.

After three seasons as head coach at Ole Miss, Luke took over the Bulldogs front in 2019 when Sam Pittman left Athens for the head coaching job at Arkansas.

Luke made his mark on Georgia’s 2021 recruiting class by signing the top-ranked tackle in the class, five-star Amarius Mims, while adding another top-10 tackle, four-star Micah Morris.

Rivals wrote:

“Georgia was unable to pull off a fourth straight recruiting rankings title in 2021, but the Dawgs did sign the nation’s sixth-best class, which featured a ton of top talent. Top-ranked among the prospects headed to Athens is five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims the No. 4-ranked prospect overall in 2021. Offensive line coach Matt Luke was responsible for delivering Mims for the Bulldogs, and he did not stop there, landing big offensive tackle Micah Morris who is the fourth-highest ranked prospect in this Georgia class, and four-star offensive guard Dylan Fairchild. Three-star offensive guard Jared Wilson rounds out Luke’s offensive line recruiting haul in this 2021 class.”

While Rivals has Georgia’s class rated as the No. 6 class in the country, other sites such as 247Sports have the Dawgs rated at No. 3 in the nation behind Alabama and Ohio State.

Regardless, the Bulldogs 2021 class is full of talent, especially along the offensive line as Luke worked to replace senior starters Trey Hill and Ben Cleveland.

While Wilson, Fairchild and Morris will most likely redshirt, Mims should have an opportunity to compete for either tackle spot as senior Jamaree Salyer, who started every game at left tackle in 2020, is expected to move to guard next season, his natural position.

We will know much more about next year’s lineup when Georgia holds the annual ‘G-day’ spring game, which is scheduled for April 17.

Georgia football 5-star QB commit Brock Vandagriff shines on first day of Elite 11 competition

The 22nd annual Elite 11 quarterback competition began Monday and Georgia football commit Brock Vandagriff looks the part so far.

On Monday, 20 of the top- high school quarterbacks in the nation arrived in Nashville for the first day of competition at the 22nd annual Elite 11 finals.

Among those competing is Georgia football commit Brock Vandagriff, a 5-star quarterback from Bogart, Georgia. Vandagriff is rated as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.

247Sports spoke with Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer about his thoughts after day one and it seems Vandagriff is matching the high expectations so far.

“Vandagriff is awesome,” Dilfer stated. “He’s another one of those kids that makes everything look easy. His tape matches what you see in person. It’s impossible not to put the other stuff out of your mind when you’re watching him, he plays six weeks after he shatters his ankle with screws in his ankle and scores six touchdowns. He’s not a camp guy, you can see he’s a football player at a camp. He’s consistent.”

Vandagriff isn’t the only Georgia quarterback in Nashville. Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman is also representing the Bulldogs as a counselor.

Notable former UGA quarterbacks that have participated in the competition are D.J. Shockley, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm – not a bad list to follow if you’re Vandagriff.
