Knoxville area running back, Vols’ target receives offer from Missouri

Oak Ridge running back and UT target receives an offer from Missouri.

A University of Tennessee football recruiting target has been offered by another Southeastern Conference school.

Oak Ridge High School junior Kendall Jackson has received an offer from Missouri.

Jackson, a running back in the 2022 recruiting class, has received multiple NCAA Division I scholarship offers since April.

He and the Wildcats are currently in the midst of a TSSAA Class 5A state playoff run.

Jackson missed time due to an injury earlier this season, but helped lead Oak Ridge to an upset win over West High School in Knoxville, 31-28, at Bill Wilson Field Friday night.

The Wildcats have won eight consecutive games, and in most of those victories, Jackson has rushed for at least 100 yards and scored at least one touchdown.

Against the Rebels, however, Jackson had just 36 yards on 10 carries. The Wildcats were able to avenge its early-season Region 3-5A loss to the Rebels, the last team to beat Oak Ridge in 2020.

Jackson also has offers from Tennessee, Tulane, Duke, Eastern Kentucky and Arizona.

Georgia commit tallies more yards in a half than UGA has in 6 quarters

5-star Georgia Bulldogs QB commit Brock Vandagriff tallied more passing yards and touchdowns in a half than UGA football has in 6 quarters

Five-star Georgia Bulldogs football commitment Brock Vandagriff is putting up some gaudy passing stats at the high school level. In fact, with his first half performance alone against Athens Christian, Brock Vandagriff threw for more passing yards than the entire team of Georgia has thrown for since halftime against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Oct. 17.

Prince Avenue quarterback Brock Vandagriff threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns in the first half alone against Athens Christian. Comparatively, Georgia has thrown for only 335 total yards since halftime of the Alabama game and the Bulldogs have five total touchdown passes since Jalen Carter hauled in a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter against Tennessee.

Vandagriff and JT Daniels, who is expected to start versus Mississippi State, give Georgia Bulldogs fans hope for the future of the quarterback position in Athens. It’s been a tough season for quarterbacks Stetson Bennett and D’Wan Mathis. The duo didn’t get too much support from the defense in key games against Florida and Alabama.

Regardless of the defensive performances, in the era of high-flying passing attacks Georgia must improve on offense. The Bulldogs saw both Mac Jones and Kyle Trask throw for over 400 yards on them. The University of Georgia threw for 112 passing yards against Florida, 131 passing yards against Kentucky, and 92 passing yards in the second half against Alabama. That’s not going to get the job done versus SEC competition.

A game-changing quarterback like Brock Vandagriff will help the UGA offense become more potent. For now, Georgia fans should sit tight and see how JT Daniels does in his first career start. Georgia has a lot of talent coming in with the class of 2021 and should be able to reload once again.

JT Daniels, Stetson Bennett, and D’Wan Mathis still need to prove themselves in the upcoming weeks. Which one of them will be the biggest competitor for Vandagriff next year?

UT target Kendall Jackson, Oak Ridge advances

A look at how Kendall Jackson, a UT recruiting target, performed Friday night in playoffs.

A Tennessee football recruiting target played and helped his team pull off an upset in the TSSAA Class 5A Quarterfinals, advancing to the state semifinals this week.

Oak Ridge High School junior running back Kendall Jackson had 10 carries for 36 yards as the Wildcats captured a 31-28 victory over West High School at Bill Wilson Field in Knoxville.

It was the eighth consecutive victory for Oak Ridge (10-3) who last lost to the Rebels in their regular-season Region 3-5A tilt. West (11-2) downed Oak Ridge, 22-7, on Sept. 17.

The Wildcats will host South-Doyle Friday night in the state semifinals.

The Cherokees (10-3) ousted two-time defending Class 5A state champion Knoxville Central with a 21-14 victory.

South-Doyle is coached by VFL and Greater Knoxville Area Sports Hall-of-Famer Clark Duncan.

Jackson has offers from Duke, the Volunteers, Eastern Kentucky, Tulane, Missouri and Arizona.
