  • Andrew Brewster: 35-19

  • Cory Linsner: 26-28

Here are our picks against the spread for each Big Ten game on this week’s slate — odds courtesy of BetMGM.

Who are the experts picking for Penn State’s matchup at Michigan?

Who are the experts taking this week in Penn State’s big game at Michigan?

Penn State is coming off their bye week and entering some crucial points to the season.

The Nittany Lions haven’t really played anyone challenging besides Purdue in Week 1, where Penn State won 35-31.

As for Michigan, they beat Indiana 31-10 last weekend, but they were also tied 10-10 at halftime. The week prior they played Iowa and won 27-14 and the week before that they played Maryland and barely won 34-27.

The point is, Michigan was tested in games where they shouldn’t have been tested. As for Penn State, besides Purdue, the Nittany Lions haven’t played anyone good. Auburn is a completely different team than they were last season, headlined by the loss of starting quarterback Bo Nix, who transferred to Oregon.

So, this will be another real test for Penn State.

But, who are the experts picking for Penn State’s Big Noon matchup at The Big House against Michigan? Let’s take a look.

To start, ESPN is giving the Nittany Lions just a 26.7% chance to win while the Wolverines have a 73.3% chance to win on Saturday.

A little key player comparisons for you.

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has been fairly solid this season. A few silly mistakes but he has been solid for the most part, currently having 1,030 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

Michigan quarterback has had an impressive start to his first-year starter campaign, currently having 1,152 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception.

Now for the running backs.

Penn State freshman running back Nick Singleton has been impressive for the Nittany Lions, currently having 63 carries for 463 yards and five touchdowns.

Michigan running back Blake Corum has 118 carries for 735 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Finally, the pass-catchers.

Penn State is led by wide receiver Parker Washington, who currently has 20 receptions for 285 yards.

Michigan’s highly experienced Ronnie Bell currently has 30 receptions for 390 yards and one touchdown.

Now, let’s get back to our expert picks.

Next up, we have the writers over at Athlon Sports. Of the three writers, all of them have the Wolverines taking down the Nittany Lions.

Next up, we have College Football News. The consensus pick is Michigan, but there is one writer that has Penn State pulling off the upset against Michigan.

Lastly, we have Max Escarpio from Bleacher Report. He has this one being a close one, but Michigan finishing the game with a 28-24 win over Penn State.

This is a highly anticipated game, as it will be on the Big Noon slate this weekend.

Many experts have the Wolverines taking down the Nittany Lions. Will it happen? We will find out on Saturday.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin: Can Spartans finally break lengthy losing streak on Saturday?

See our predictions for Michigan State’s homecoming matchup against Wisconsin on Saturday

It’s been over a month since the Spartans have tasted victory and picking up a win this week won’t be easy either.

Michigan State will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday against a suddenly surging Badgers team. The Spartans enter this matchup 2-4 on the season and winless in conference play, while Wisconsin is coming off a win under new interim head coach Jim Leonhard and is 3-3 on the season.

Does the Spartans Wire staff think Michigan State will break its four-game losing streak this week? Here are our score predictions for Michigan State-Wisconsin and how we see this Big Ten battle playing out:

Former Aggies Von Miller and Tyrel Dotson shining in Buffalo

Former Aggies Von Miller and Tyrel Dotson shining in Buffalo

In Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season, two former Aggies – Tyrel Dodson and Von Miller – made the lengthy list of great performers in the Buffalo Bills’ route of the Kenny Pickett-lead Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

Prior to Sunday’s game, Dodson played sparingly for the Bills’ defense, registering only 13 defensive snaps through Week 4, but took full advantage of a 63-snap defensive day where he registered 11 total tackles (7 solo) and a sack.

Von Miller on the other hand, averaging 35 defensive snaps per game through five weeks, recorded his third game with at least one sack (second consecutive game, as well) and puts his season total to 4.0 sacks.

The Bills have a highly anticipated showdown versus Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, in Arrowhead, on Sunday at 4:25PM ET on CBS.

Brian Kelly isn’t worried about the Swamp’s hostile environment this weekend

Kelly said the team will be ready for the crowd at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Two weeks ago, LSU traveled to its first true road game of the year when it made a trip down to the plains to play Auburn. LSU came out on the good side of that gam with a win.

The Tigers are going to have to play a lot better, though, if they want to beat Anthony Richardson and the Florida Gators in the Swamp. At the beginning of the season, Florida looked like it could be a potential SEC Championship contender as they defeated Utah at home.

Since then, things have cooled off in Gainesville, and the Gators nearly lost to Missouri last week. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] was asked during his time with the media what he thought about playing in the Swamp.

“I think crowd noise has been OK for us,” Kelly said. “We seem to be a little bit more focused and locked in when we get that. You hate to talk in terms of when you turn the music on and you get real loud, the guys pay attention more.

“But the fact of the matter is they did a nice job in their preparation for Auburn and they’re going to have to do that here for Florida because you’re right, it’s a crazy environment and they’re going to have to be locked in this week.”

Saturday’s game against the Gators is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT.

Everything Nick Saban said on Wednesday of Tennessee week

Everything Alabama football coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday of Tennessee game week.

Week 7’s marquee matchup in college football will take place inside Neyland Stadium this weekend when [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville to take on Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Following Wednesday’s practice, coach Saban got behind the microphone to discuss his team’s preparation for the rivalry matchup with the Vols.

Before fielding any questions coach Saban would get things started with an opening statement discussing the upcoming game and providing a little update on star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag].

“I think that our emphasis this week has been on everybody self-assessing – coaches, myself, players. Do you think you’re really playing to the level that people respect, to the standard that we have, that your teammates respect, the discipline, the toughness, the effort to finish, focus on the next play, accountability to do your job. Those are basic, fundamental things that I think are very, very important to being successful, and that’s something that we’ve really emphasized. I think the players have done a pretty good job so far this week. We’ve got a tremendous challenge against a really good team on the road, SEC game, Game Day, all the things that make great games. If you’re a great competitor, you love great challenges, and this is certainly gonna be a great challenge for us in what we expect to be a difficult environment.

“Bryce continues to practice a little bit more. We’ve got him on a little bit of a pitch count just to kind of wean him back into it and see how it goes. So we expect him to do even a little more tomorrow. That’s all I really have to say about that.”

Here is everything else coach Saban had to say on Wednesday:

Former five-star OT Logan Brown enters the transfer portal

A Wisconsin Badgers reserve OT has entered his name into the Transfer Portal:

Madison, Wis. — On Wednesday evening, Wisconsin Badgers offensive tackle Logan Brown, whose been with the program for the last four seasons, announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

“To Wisconsin Football, thank you for the opportunity for the last 4 years,” Brown said in a post on social media. “I will be entering the transfer portal and will be continuing my academic and football career elsewhere.”

This decision comes shortly after former head coach Paul Chryst, who recruited Brown, was fired by Athletic Director Chris McIntosh.

Per the 247Sports composite, Brown was the No. 17 overall prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, the No. 4 OT in the country, and the No. 1 player in Michigan.

This season, the former five-star recruit was given every opportunity to earn the starting job at right tackle. Still, inconsistent play, specifically in pass protection, kept him from ever cementing his place among the top five offensive linemen.

According to PFF, the 6-foot-6, 313-pound tackle played 209 snaps and allowed a team-high four pressures this season.

Redshirt freshman Riley Mahlman won the RT job out of fall camp, and in-state product Trey Wedig appears to have surpassed him on the depth chart as well – closing the door on any immediate opportunities.

A fresh start seems to make the most sense for both sides at this point.

Penn State-Michigan all-time series history

Penn State vs. Michigan: A look at the all-time series history

It almost seems impossible that Penn State and Michigan did not cross paths on the football field until 1993, Penn State’s first season as a Big Ten member. But it was on that fall day in 1993 when the Wolverines took the first meeting all-time against Penn State in Beaver Stadium. Since then, the Wolverines have owned the upper hand in the series, thanks to a nine-game winning streak between 1997 and 2007.

Michigan has been a thrown for Penn State over the years, but Penn State has had some memorable victories in the series. The 1994 meeting, Penn State’s first trip to Michigan Stadium, was the signature win in Penn State’s undefeated 1994 season.

The 2022 meeting between the two schools will mark the third time the game will be played with both teams being ranked in the top 10. Each time before this, the road team has emerged victorious with Penn State claiming the win in 1994 and Michigan squandering the Nittany Lions in 1997.

Michigan leads the all-time series, 15-10/. Here is a look at each game played in the series dating back to the first meeting in 1993.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Carter Karels to get some insight on Florida State ahead of Clemson’s game against the Seminoles. Karels covers FSU football for the Tallahassee Democrat.

Hass hit on a number of topics during the following question-and-answer session, including FSU’s offensive transformation, what’s given the Seminoles’ defense trouble this season and and more heading into Saturday’s game at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Note: This interview has been edited for clarity

Aside from this being a rivalry game, Florida State comes into this one having dropped its last two games. What’s your sense in talking with FSU coach Mike Norvell and players there of just how big this one is for the Seminoles?

It’s huge game for Florida State. You set this three-game stretch up for them, and it’s really the most difficult stretch of the season. Wake Forest, NC state and then Clemson. They just haven’t shown that killer instinct yet. They were in both of those games (against Wake Forest and NC State), but they had a lot of miscues and a lot of self-inflicted errors. There’s no question that this roster is improved. Where this program was when Mike Norvell took over two years ago, they’re a much better team. But they still haven’t learned yet how to have that killer instinct and win a game that maybe requires extra toughness mentally. They just have’t done that. So this is a game where it’s your toughest game of the year and you have a chance to really put a statement out there that, hey, this is a team on the rise.

I think they’re past the point of moral victories, so it’s not really a matter of oh let’s play them close. This is your last chance to show, hey, this is a team that can beat an elite team. Now they have some others games to really show something. This is a team that hasn’t made a bowl in five years, so just getting to .500 and getting to a bowl is considered progress for this team, but their expectations shifted a little bit when they started 4-0.

How has FSU quarterback Jordan Travis developed as a passer since a year ago when it wasn’t necessarily a strong part of his game?

It looks night and day. I think in the past, because of his playmaking ability and maybe because of the lack of weapons around him and being early on in his development, he was someone who would rely on his playmaking a little too much. He would abandon plays and try to use his legs, and he would run himself into trouble sometimes. Now you don’t even see him run all that much. He’s been much more of a pocket passer this season. He’s anticipated his receivers getting open better. He makes a lot of the right reads. You rarely see him make a bad decision. I think NC State is the one exception where you saw him make some bad decisions. It was definitely one of the worst starts he’s hard in a long time. I consider that to be kind of an outlier, but on the year as a whole, he’s someone who’s shown improvement in just about every area.

I think a lot of it, too, is the guys around him. They put in (receiver) Johnny Wilson. They put in (another receiver) Mycah Pittman. It’s just night and day the wide receiving corps they’ve had. Last year, I think they had probably the worst wide receiving corps in the ACC. And this year, they’re one of the best if not the best. Having those weapons has allowed him to be more confident. You see him testing defenses more. You see him not afraid to throw one-on-one to guys. Last year, they didn’t have a single receiver that exceeded 400 receiving yards, which is one of the craziest statistics I can think of when it comes to college football. That’s just nuts. Now they’re going to have three or four that pass the 400-yard mark this year.

So how has that changed the way FSU’s offense operates?

In every way that you can think of. I think they liked where their running backs were, but every other position besides maybe tight end has improved dramatically. Their offensive line is still far from a finished product. They’ve struggled and had some injuries that have definitely hurt them, but they’ve got better depth there. They’ve added some guys to where it’s not a complete disaster like it was a couple of years ago. Wide receiver, just a lot of guys that can win one-on-one battles where as last year and the year before, they could not win one-on-ones in man-to-man coverage on a consistent basis. Now they’ve got guys that can do that, and it just allows you to be aggressive down the field. It used to be a lot more dink and dunk. Now you can be aggressive.

This has been one of the most explosive offenses in the country. I think they’re No. 1 in play of 20-plus yards, and a lot of that has been because of that down-the-field passing game. And it’s made it to where Jordan Travis, he struggled with kind of his durability early on in his career and he was never 100% the guy. And they bring in (former UCF quarterback) McKenzie Milton. Well this offseason was kind of the first offseason he became the guy, and they put the right pieces around him. And now you’re just seeing him really develop into the guy that he’s capable of.

Speaking of Johnny Wilson, for those who are unfamiliar, he’s a 6-foot-7 transfer receiver from Arizona State. Do you see him potentially being an X-factor in this game given Clemson’s struggles in coverage at times?

I do. When I watched Clemson-Wake Forest — and they’ve been very banged up (in the secondary) – but it seemed like they struggled on those 50-50 balls down the field. That’s where Johnny Wilson can really, really beat you. And he’s not just a one-trick pony either. He can be your security blanket over the middle. He can get yards after the catch. And probably the most underrated thing about him is his blocking is exceptional. He’s kind of that all-around guy.

It’s shocking that when he entered the transfer portal, Florida State was one of two schools that wanted him. It was FSU and Oregon State. And now he’s their best receiver in a little bit of time. So he’s someone that’s WR1 for sure, and with a the secondary has been banged up and struggled deep with 50-50 balls, he can be an X-factor.

Defensively, FSU has allowed the 14th-fewest passing yards in the country. What’s factored into that?

I do think it doesn’t tell the full story. I think also it kind of is reflective of who they’ve played and what teams have tried to exploit against them. I think they’ve struggled against the run, and they’ve also played a lot of teams that are good with running the football or their quarterback is a really good runner. I think of (Louisville quarterback) Malik Cunningham, he did a lot of damage. And Jayden Daniels of LSU, he did a lot of damage there. Even NC State’s backup quarterback, when he came in, had some really nice runs. So teams haven’t really had to throw the ball a whole lot.

It sounds crazy that they’re No. 14 in passing yards allowed, but I’d say they still have questions. Their corners, they’ve got some questions for sure. But safety, that’s certainly a strength. Jammie Robinson was a first-team all-ACC safety guy. Had his first pick last week. He’s obviously a guy to watch. A very versatile player. But overall I think teams are running the ball a little bit more agains FSU. And you look at Clemson, not only have you got a guy like Will Shipley, but with (quarterback) D.J. (Uiagalelei) and how effective he’s been as a runner this year, and then seeing what other running quarterbacks have done to this team, I just feel like this could be a game where Clemson runs for 200 or more yards.

FSU running back Treshaun Ward posted a photo of himself in the hospital following the NC State game last week. How healthy is the team leading up to this game?

(Defensive lineman) Fabien Lovett is someone who has not played since the last drive against LSU (in the season opener) when he went down with a lower-leg injury. Not having him has been tough. That has been a lot of the reason for those runs they’ve given up up the middle. FSU kind of has a weird deal where they let us go to practice, but we can’t report anything injury-related or practice participation-related. So they would ban me from practice if I told you who may or may not play, but we asked Norvell about it (Tuesday) and he said that Ward, after further evaluation, does not need surgery and he’s going to try his best to play Saturday. That seems pretty hard to believe, but we’ll see.

That will be a big one to watch just because of how great Clemson’s run defense is and now Clemson’s whole defensive line is intact. And this o-line has really, really struggled with some stout defensive fronts. They struggled with NC State for sure, and I think Clemson, with even better of a front seven, could do some damage. It may be a game where if you don’t have Treshaun Ward, maybe Jordan Travis throws it 40 times or maybe you’ll have to get a little bit more creative with jet sweeps, running with the quarterback and establishing the run in more creative ways.
